I think what I mean is, I know where the menu list is for the second grub menu, but I have no idea where it is for the first. I assume it's on one of my partitions, but I don't know which. Does that help? Possibly not, I could have this whole idea messed up

Hi all, got a bit of a funny problem. It's been ages since my last install (still running 2010.0, it's been brilliant) and I can't remember how I set my boot menus :( When I boot, I got through two GRUB menu's. And, I think my first grub menu isn't on the MBR IIRC. Anyway, I know where the last GRUB menu files are, is there anyway I can determine where the first GRUB set up is? For the new install I'm going to clean out my OS HDD, as I have my data on separate discs, and my OS disc is a mess, with like 6 distros on it, but I only ever use 2010.0 Any help most appreciated

Hi all. I'm still searching around for software for my business. GnuCash is great for the accounting side, but is a bit tricky for the billing/invoicing. So I want to give Quasar a go. It is in the repos and the install went well. It has installed two icons to my menu, Quasar and Quasar setup. So I guess the first thing I need to do is set up a New Company, so I click there, give "My Company Name", there is a drop down box for database, either firebird or postgreSQL, but I don't believe I have either installed or setup. Any advice most appreciated.

Ok, so when I open Squeese (the administration gui for lemonpos) it tries to connect to a database called "lemondb". Perhaps I need to build this as a database. Does this sound right?

Hi all, I'm in the process of looking around at various programs for running a business on. I had come across LemonPOS before, and I see it's in the repos so I thought it would be great to give it a try. Installing LemonPOS through MCC went well, then I found I needed to install Mysql aswell, which I have, and have since change the root password as advised. The trouble is I seem to be having trouble building the database for LemonPOS. Various instruction sets to me to: For the first time, you have to create a database. Database is used to store all things related to the operation of the POS, like sales and products. * To create database, run script included inside lemonpos/database_resources/ or on recent releases this file is located at /usr/share/kde4/apps/lemon/ cd lemonpos/database_resources/ cat lemon_mysql.sql | mysql -u root -p Unfortunately I cannot find this database_resources or anything along the lines of lemon_mysql.sql Can anyone help or am I doing something stupid?

So you got it fixed in the end by stepping upto 2010.1? Not sure if I'm waiting for the next mandriva, or mageia. Maybe I need to look at 2010.1

Hi guys, I can't recall this ever being a problem until recently. I'm running Mandriva 2010 (I haven't gone to 2010.1 as this has been so stable), with a HP F2480 printer. I have installed HPLIP V3.9.12. from the repos. I have the printer properties set to A4, I have document settings set to A4. It is only a problem with my HP, as I have connected an epson and that prints perfectly. The top margin is some 1.5cm or more too large, and then the bottom of the page gets cut off. This is most annoying with important documents. Any advice greatly appreciated.

I believe I had to use a newer HPLIP from the backports. I have the same printer, but am running 2010. I simply went into MCC enabled backports, then searched for the latest HPLIP and installed that, then I disabled backports again. I still have a few issues with printing eg. if it runs out of paper sometimes it wont continue printing :( But otherwise it works pretty well.

Hi all, I have a new Television with an USB connection for multimedia. I have formatted an external hard disk to FAT32 as is required. Problem is the TV reads Mpeg1 and Mpeg2 according to the documentation. Most of my stuff is in *.AVI format. I tried for several hours using VLC to carry out the conversion but I kept getting the error message "VLC could not open the encoder". I have installed every codec I could find, but still got the same message. I hove confirmed that using ffmpeg -i input.avi -sameq output.mpg output.mpg does indeed play on the TV. By using ffmpeg as above is the output file a mpeg1 or mpeg2? And is mpeg2 better than mpeg1? Any other advice most appreciated.

I have a HP all in on printer/scanner F2480, which prints and scans fine (after I used updated drivers from backports). I'm happy with how this works. Problem is I also have a Epson V300 scanner, which I need to use for scanning negetives and slides, which my all in one can't do. SANE says I need to use the epson2 (1.0.124) backend. I cant find this in the repos, so I decided to try to use the avasys driver & iscan. Ok, so if I press ESC to go to non-graphic login I have a failsafe option. This does not work, seems to stop at: starting udev? I did add 'single' to the kernel line, still with the same result of stalling at: starting udev Which is weird as if I boot normally it stops at: Checking for new hardware I'm pretty sure this is a system halt and not an X issue. My only thought is (and I could be completely wrong, as I do not know how linux installs itself) as I was running an old BIOS it didn't install all the drivers I need, hence it stalls when checking for new hardware? It's strange as many people seem to Mandriva installed on AAO with no issues what so ever.

As it boots, with the default kernel settings, if I press ESC to get the verbose screen I don't have the option to enter the interactive start up. If I switch to a console screen as soon as it says checking for new hardware it locks up, so no I can not log in through the terminal. I will try to login in single mode.

Do you think this is a driver clash with your graphics card? Can you use another driver like the nv driver? I'm not much good with issues like this. I assume you're running the 9400gt in your signature. I previously ran a 9400gt with no problems, and now I have a 9800gt, still with no problems.

I believe that there was a way to stop the new hardware check during boot. Does anyone know how to do this?

Ok, had a break through. At the login screen I tried to get to a cli interface rather than GUI by ctrl+alt+f1, and it took a few seconds then showed Checking for new hardware I see there is a new BIOS update for my machine. I guess this may have something to do with it. EDIT: New Bios successfully installed, but same issue remains

Ok. Sounds likely. Is there some how I can check the logs on a failed boot to find the cause?
