  1. Look for the mandrake menu package inside SRPMS/linux-menu/mandrake-menu....rpm Also the ooo folder is installed under the /opt/ folder.
  2. I dont use AIM, I'll rather configure my router like it should. I would appreciate some tips in this topic.
  3. I have a 80GB IOMEGA HD, but I am looking into buying the LaCIE Mandriva Globtrotter basically because I like the form (smaller) and that it doesnt need external power supply. The Iomega is too bulky and the external cable is extra space for my laptop case. Plus Mandriva put a ditro in it so I can use it in case I have to plug it to a Winbox.
  4. I am a palm newbie so I guess I want a more straight forward solution, the reason is that Kpilot/Jpilot is more like the palm desktop, but I dont use the palm desktop at all. I am triying to put pictures, music and video on the palm so the PIM facilities doesnt really address my need. I thought if I could just FTP to it I could just drop whatever file I need to the SD card.
  5. Maybe he will want to know what to block and what not. I guess this will be the explanation. Are u going to host sites from here? Are u going to host files from here? Are you going to access this PC remotely? Is this a dedicated firewall PC for your network? Do you want to have rules and filters? Do you need to have authentication or just filtering/port blocking?
  6. I own a linksys router and for some reason I havent been able to configure it correctly for my file transfer to work. The main software I use is Gaim and IRC X-Chat. I tried reading the documentation but didnt got that far. Then I configure the port-fowarding on the ports that are used by DCC. However no luck was achieved, I wonder if I miss something. I also want to put it on the ICQ, MSN, Yahoo and Jabber file transfer which is what I used in gaim too. These are pretty famous programs so I guess this question should be common but couldnt find any previous note on this.
  7. I wanna know how can I send videos, music and files to my palm. I have used kpilot but is really just for the PIM of the device, I want to get something like a FTP where I can send files to my palm. I have done it succesfully with the cellphone using IRDA however with the palm I am not sure how to configure OBEXFTP or something similar. I can also use the USB/Cradle, but I am not sure it just mount it like that. Any advice would be appreciated. BTW I have a SD, but no SD card reader.
  8. How would I go about doing this from the command line? Would it be something like a mount similar to a NFS?
  9. After coping my data from my cd to my computer, I couldnt eject the cdrom because it says the device was busy. I cd away from /mnt/cdrom and close the programs and terminals and the message still pop up. My question is... is there a way to find out what is using this device?
  10. Gnome has a new feature called Places > Connect to Server > SSH which in case is a secure ftp connection however gnome mounts it somehow (it doesnt use /etc/fstab) and is able to open the folder and import/export files. I want to know if I can do something similar from the command line or from Midnight Commander. Also the KDE alternative is using fish, my question is, is there any resource or howto on doing this from the command line.
  11. I want to sync my laptop in a way that my configuration folders ~/.<folder> are sync but the actual visible content is not. Actually I want specifically to ignore softlinks since they dont apply on my desktop. Any idea? Since I have never used rsync and would be my first time I would like some advise so I dont mess it up doing a wrong sync that will overwrite my data. Also they use different distros and I dont know if that would/could be a problem.
  12. I have tons of images on a 1200x1020 size, and I want to resize them to 800x600 so I can upload them already resized to my server. I would like to know if there is a bashscript to resize the images. I currently have imagemagik (convert) and can resize some of the images but the problem is that the new images end up being really bad file name. I wonder if there is a more polished script to resize the images. Thanks

    NFS share

OK I put some folders on Shared. Something like picture, hopes it works now.
  14. This is a GNOME thing rather than mandriva. I think this might be solve if you use GConf to configure your gnome enviroment. I am not a Gnome Poweruser but I think that gnomesupport.org might help you out.
  15. I wonder if is possible to start a movie on a specific minute using mplayer from the command line. Something like: mplayer [option] 25:10 file.mpeg Is there anything like that possible?

    NFS share

I said NFS Network File Sharing. I ran draknfs and I shared some directories with the IP of my laptop but I can't write there. And I assigned Read-only to NO.
  18. You should be better running a tutorial, since you want guidance posters usually dont spend that much time writing long messages. My best bet is to read at least once a general porpouse linux tutorial about running your ATI. I found you some like this: http://www.rage3d.com/content/articles/atilinuxhowto/ http://www.linux-gamers.net/modules/wfsect...hp?articleid=22 If you are stuck in some step then you can come back to the forum and we can help you out with what they mean. To download a kernel source you need to go directly to a MDK repository and download directly from there.
  19. The RPM generic packages have desktop folder which have distro specific (including mandrake) RPM for the menus.
  20. I just urpmi asterisk, great.. .now what?? :D I know RTFM, but seriously, as mandriva seems to tweak the way software behaives sometimes the actual software comes different than the regular instalation.
  21. well for some reason it doesnt work :( Mi /etc/cups/client.conf has the following statement ServerName smb://alex:*****@NEPTUNE/Brother

    NFS share

I got a desktop and laptop both running mandrake 2006, on my desktop I ran draknfs and I typed my laptop IP and Read-Only set to NO. when I want to move a file to the NFS patition it says permission denied, is there any way I can make it able to run.
  23. The erro r might be because the drivers need to be compiled with the kernel version. You should go to linmodem to get the actual driver and recompile with the kernel.
  24. I want to install a network printer on my mandrake the issue is that the authentication wont work unless I use cifs from my //server/network so I have curently: smb://user:password@SERVER/printer however the problem is that since I can't put CIFS it still fails to mount.
  25. I dont think Cpanel is GPL or any FLOSS license so for that reason I dont think is available from Mandriva packages.
