  4. Python HTMLParser is a good API process to convert the HTML into standardouput. HTMLParser will just focus on the div that contains the content and parse everything from there on. I did some info parsing from a table which then report me back with just the info (pirice) I needed.
  5. with the popular of self-made bash scripts, is there somewhere on the web where there is a bash script exchange containing various scripts such as Networking, File management, Text management, service administration etc.

  7. It would be tightvnc, like I said is a problem when ran. If I try to open vncviewer (vnc client) from the command line I get the following issue: # vncviewer Warning: Unable to load any usable ISO8859 font Warning: Missing charsets in String to FontSet conversion Warning: Unable to load any usable fontset Error: Aborting: no font found Yes I do have my fonts installed.
  8. So I have several miscelaneous annoyances with Mandriva ONE here are some (this was installed on my machine): 1. - X wont restart, problem with xkbcom There seems to be an issue when I logout Mandriva and that is that X wont run again, it wil try 3 times and then give up. Then a blue screen of death will show up some errors triying to run the X server. The issues seem to be that the keybaord has some issues. It goes on by listing Warning from all the keys. I use a usb keyboard on a laptop (Which means there are 2 keyboards). At the beginning I thought this was the source of the conflict however after unpluging X kept complaining. So I need help on this. 2. -No VNC, issues wiht fonts This issue is font related, I cant connect to my other PC downstairs because vncviewer will launch an error, this time it seems to be some errors from the font rendering, since vnc uses some other toolkit to render the fonts, there seem to be lacking from my machine. 3.-NXClient gives me errors on connecting I cant seem to be able to my favorite server desktop service -- cosmopod. It uses NXClient which is made by no machine. I have no issues on my suse box downstairs and I didnt used to have issues here (when I had 2006). However now I launch it sing in and everything goes fine until (authentication, handshaking etc) until is time to display X (during established X connection). The server seems to give up and halt. Details read as following: Info: Starting X protocol compression. Info: Established X server connection. Info: Using shared memory support in X server. Error: Lost connection to peer proxy on FD#9. Error: Connection with remote peer broken. Error: Please check the state of your network and retry. 4.- kcontrol (kde control center) is nowhere to be found from some days, meaning that it wont display on the menu. After launching it from the Run command it got to disply but just emply, none of the modules were avaialble. Hope anyone can give me some tips, the good news at least is that I have a backup of /etc/ from my older distro and I guess I will be able to copy config files. Will need some guidance on this process.
  9. Sorry this should had been on networking This is more to verify my knowledge that I picked up from reading samba how-to and poking around. I am using mandriva 2006 and so far this are some knowledge-doubt I got. Samba is located on /etc/samba/smb.conf smb-winbind.conf First doubt, how do I know which one is the one in use? Smb.conf usually start with network definition, name and description of the server, also some programs for communication, as well as logs, printing and server authentication. However more some specific doubts are the following: # Uncomment this if you want a guest account, you must add this to /etc/passwd # otherwise the user "nobody" is used [color=#FF0000] # guest account = pcguest[/color] # Allow users to map to guest: map to guest = bad user so my question here is who is pcguest and whats the difference between nobody. For a windows user for example it will mean that even if he is on not authenticated to the samba server he will be able to get in? Or does it means that a windows 'guest' account will be able to get in? For example on 98 some users wont even bother creating a user, while 2000 will have a default guest users. As you can see I am totally lost here Moving on.... The next part mainly talk about Domain controlers and Domain names and windows specific uptions for password synchronization and what not. Then Samba users are stored in a Database, here is another question where I am not sure I get which database are they talknig about, LDAP is not really a database but might be aply in this case? Thank for clearing this doubts, I still have some more but I will really need to just read more about it to be able to formulate an intelligent question.
  10. Is on the desktop is a gui app pretty straight forward however I installed and found some shortcommings since is beta I guess is ok. But here are some of my surprises: Firewall is enabled by default so make sure u configure it or turn it off since it might be blocking something and you might not be aware off. It didnt detect my network card straight away, and had to put cardmgr Flash was querky, and well I still have that problem There are some issues with the font server I couldnt get vncviewer to run properly.
  11. I wonder if they are the same as 2006.0 or will they be for 2006.1 and if there is such where are the repositories. Thanks for the feedback. [moved from Installing Mandriva by spinynorman]
  12. I think you were on the wrong site, you need the .org not the .com. http://wiki.xiph.org/index.php/PortablePlayers
  13. Vorbis site has a good database of companies making ogg-compatible devices. Also most of them are koreans so that mean they are pretty good. Have a look there and I am sure you might be able to order a couple. Since there is not like pushed by a major brand they are also cheaper.
  14. I thought about putting the post on Networking but this is really a system issue. I dl Mandriva ONE and try it out, the CD version work ok, but my pcmcia (D-Link CardBus) was not recognized by the system. I put a cardmgr command and it went fine. When I install the system on my laptop I experience the same issue but the card wouldn't run even after cardmgr. I tried to do several things, the card uses the pcnet_cs driver, and I tried to restart the system: $ service pcmcia start $ yenta_socket $ cardmgr $ ifup eth0 None of this commands will revifve the PCMCIA, it does light up but it just can't start the eth0 interface for some strange reason. After putting the ifup eth0 I did got an error saying that it couldnt run the ifup script because it lacks the zcip utility, later I found out this was the Zeroconf option which I guess wasn't included on the CD. My question is where can I rewrite the Zeroconf configuration files. I've tried doing it from drakconnect but didnt work.
  15. Actually I finally found something different, I use setxkbmap -layout es and it did work.
  16. I see this upgrade make me a lil bit worry since it doesnt ask you to update, since is a live CD is not aware that you already have mandriva on your HD, so my question would be a back up one, what should I backup. My lastest clean install I errase all my website projects under /var/www/html/ Also the mysql data which I am not sure where is it stored and finally some misc configuration like urpmi. Which also at this point I am not sure if its that necesarry since there is no package mirror for ONE 2006.1 Any suggestions or ideas on this areas?
  17. I just dl the iso yet I havent found any information regarding the Mandriva ONE CD. I have looked for documentation within the Mandriva site but I havent been able to find anything relatied with that distribution. [moved from Installing Mandriva by spinynorman]
  18. So I have mandriva 2006 and I can't change my xkblayout, I used to change it showing it like $ xmodmap es But now that gives me that it cant find it, there is still an 'es' (for spanish) under /ext/X11/xkb/symbol/ but still cant find it or reports errors at different lines. Since Mandriva release a new version (Mandriva ONE) I want to install on my lappy and make it right so I can have a xkb layout and I also want o make sure that I can easily change the keyboard language with a shortcut key. Existe otro comando llamdo setxkbmap -layout es Pero no lo he probado. [moved from Installing Mandriva by spinynorman]

  22. Why not support companies that support linux, this is when Linuxcertified have came from and they just downgrade their premium prices to regular. And they are totally supported.
  23. I never had an issue with mandriva NFS Server Search, I just want it to learn from the command line. You mentioned that I should use showmount [host] however this didn't seem to work. I got the following return: $ showmount -a 192.168.1.101 mount clntudp_create: RPC: Port mapper failure - RPC: Unable to receive This is odd since I can mount using mcc and also I can ping the IP with no issue. Maybe it was because I didn't assigned a hostname.
  24. hi all anyone can answer me this doubt, I want to know what command line is used when mandriva looks for NFS servers in a network when I go to mcc > mountpoint > NFS server > Search for Servers but from the command line
