  1. Hi I want a samba share so that the remote users are able to put files on the folder but not be able to read the files in that shared. I am using draksamba.
  2. I am getting this problem on urpmi when I want to install or search the rpm database: rpmdb: PANIC: fatal region error detected; run recovery error: db4 error(-30975) from dbenv->open: DB_RUNRECOVERY: Fatal error, run database recovery error: Runnning db->verify ... Segmentation fault

    Unable to open Gnash

No i mean libagg.so.2, is a dependency of gnash. Check the attachment of the window.
  6. I have gnash on my system and 2 days ago I got an update from the mandrivaupdate. I can't get it on because ti says that it can't find libagg.so.3 Has anyone been able to get this similar thing and fix it. Thanks./
  7. Hi anyone know why does Blender make X explode? I have ran blender and blendernodri and both times blender wont start. I want to know how to to fix this. Thanks.
  8. Exactly exccept that I dont get an output, I get something like this: $ service portmap start $ there is no portamp is running... or portmap is starting... There is no FAILED or OK tag. Just like if service was not even working, but it is working with other services.
  9. I got a problem with mandriva 2007.1 spring where service can't restart the nfs and the samba services. One of the problems I have seen is that portmaper doesnt run and rpc.nfsd is also not working. Has anyone seen this happening? There has also been some problems since shorewall originally block the NFS ports. But I see this as a different thing. [moved from Software by spinynorman]
  10. So I wont let people just bash mandriva in tipica trol fashion. I have never experienced this before and I dont think I would of generalized that the distro is any less valuable because of a simple re-install service. I have ran mandriva/mandrake for many years as a server and found utilities such as the policy management far supiror than other distros. I know hardcore server guys that use mandriva on the government and organization as a server with no issue. As for urpmi, I heard that smart has became a better solution in the mandriva world.
  11. you know which log file will tell me these, unfortunately messages didn't help much. I dont get the exact output from a linux start up on the logs from what I can see. All I get is: Jul 18 17:55:13 genius kernel: NFSD: Using /var/lib/nfs/v4recovery as the NFSv4 state recovery directory Jul 18 17:55:13 genius kernel: NFSD: starting 90-second grace period
  12. Yes I did all that, however everything was there yet nothing was working. The service command was defoinetly working so it wasn't an issue regarding the 'service' or init.d manager. I end up solving it by removing the whole stack (nfs-utils nfs-utils-client and portmap) and reinstalling. I also check the errata and saw sme nfs bugs but nothing like I experienced.
  13. yes of course, it doesnt even work from drakxservices. if I was a regular user I will get something like command not found.
  14. I am not able to have NFS working on Mandriva Spring 2007. I get nothing out of: service nfs start/status/stop nor do I get from portmap or nfslock.
  15. Cool stuff, good to know that is working now.
  16. Hi John, Unfortunately the UI is not very sophisticated. For example I can't edit the .backupitgnore to let say to backup my home 'except' my Pictures/Music/Videos. In other words if I just wanto backup my 'dot files' I can't do it. Also on cron I can't edit it since my interface don't light up (it shows as unaccesible even after installing crontab and anacron. I could edit crontab myself but then again, I am not sure what command (and parameters) I need to execute the backup. That is why I am asking if one can give me the tour under the hood of drakbackup.
  17. I want to know how can I disable some of the backups. I don't want to backup my system folder at /etc/ I also have questions regarding the use of .backupignore (where can I find this file) Finally I have crontab but I don't get all the options on the 'when' option within drakbackup. Hope you guys can answer these questions.
  18. Or completely graphically by going on to KDE's Run Command dialog: Star > Run Command Then clicking on Other Options and selecting on run as different user and typing: User: root Password: your_password and running kwrite or kate (depending on what you have) and editing the menu.lst
  19. I am not sure what you need. For example I usually use the urpmf command to locate a specific file on the mandriva sources. I also download mlocate to locate the files on my filesystem. So first step: # urpmf libphp libphp5_common5:/usr/lib/libphp5_common.so.5 libphp5_common5:/usr/lib/libphp5_common.so.5.2.0 libphp5_common5:/usr/share/doc/libphp5_common5-5.2.1 libphp5_common5:/usr/share/doc/libphp5_common5-5.2.1/CREDITS libphp5_common5:/usr/share/doc/libphp5_common5-5.2.1/CREDITS.libxml libphp5_common5:/usr/share/doc/libphp5_common5-5.2.1/CREDITS.zlib libphp5_common5:/usr/share/doc/libphp5_common5-5.2.1/INSTALL libphp5_common5:/usr/share/doc/libphp5_common5-5.2.1/LICENSE libphp5_common5:/usr/share/doc/libphp5_common5-5.2.1/NEWS libphp5_common5:/usr/share/doc/libphp5_common5-5.2.1/README.EXTENSIONS libphp5_common5:/usr/share/doc/libphp5_common5-5.2.1/README.EXT_SKEL libphp5_common5:/usr/share/doc/libphp5_common5-5.2.1/README.PARAMETER_PARSING_API libphp5_common5:/usr/share/doc/libphp5_common5-5.2.1/README.PHP4-TO-PHP5-THIN-CHANGES libphp5_common5:/usr/share/doc/libphp5_common5-5.2.1/README.STREAMS libphp5_common5:/usr/share/doc/libphp5_common5-5.2.1/README.UPDATE_5_2 libphp5_common5:/usr/share/doc/libphp5_common5-5.2.1/README.input_filter libphp5_common5:/usr/share/doc/libphp5_common5-5.2.1/README.openssl libphp5_common5:/usr/share/doc/libphp5_common5-5.2.1/README.spl libphp5_common5:/usr/share/doc/libphp5_common5-5.2.1/ZEND_LICENSE libphp5_common5:/usr/share/doc/libphp5_common5-5.2.1/configure_command libphp5_common5:/usr/share/doc/libphp5_common5-5.2.1/php.ini-dist libphp5_common5:/usr/share/doc/libphp5_common5-5.2.1/php.ini-recommended php-devel:/usr/lib/libphp5_common.la php-devel:/usr/lib/libphp5_common.so php-devel:/usr/src/php-devel/sapi/apache/libphp5.module.in php-devel:/usr/src/php-devel/sapi/apache_hooks/libphp5.module.in libphp5_common5:/usr/lib/libphp5_common.so.5 libphp5_common5:/usr/lib/libphp5_common.so.5.2.0 libphp5_common5:/usr/share/doc/libphp5_common5-5.2.1 libphp5_common5:/usr/share/doc/libphp5_common5-5.2.1/CREDITS libphp5_common5:/usr/share/doc/libphp5_common5-5.2.1/CREDITS.libxml libphp5_common5:/usr/share/doc/libphp5_common5-5.2.1/CREDITS.zlib libphp5_common5:/usr/share/doc/libphp5_common5-5.2.1/INSTALL libphp5_common5:/usr/share/doc/libphp5_common5-5.2.1/LICENSE libphp5_common5:/usr/share/doc/libphp5_common5-5.2.1/NEWS libphp5_common5:/usr/share/doc/libphp5_common5-5.2.1/README.EXTENSIONS libphp5_common5:/usr/share/doc/libphp5_common5-5.2.1/README.EXT_SKEL libphp5_common5:/usr/share/doc/libphp5_common5-5.2.1/README.PARAMETER_PARSING_API libphp5_common5:/usr/share/doc/libphp5_common5-5.2.1/README.PHP4-TO-PHP5-THIN-CHANGES libphp5_common5:/usr/share/doc/libphp5_common5-5.2.1/README.STREAMS libphp5_common5:/usr/share/doc/libphp5_common5-5.2.1/README.UPDATE_5_2 libphp5_common5:/usr/share/doc/libphp5_common5-5.2.1/README.input_filter libphp5_common5:/usr/share/doc/libphp5_common5-5.2.1/README.openssl libphp5_common5:/usr/share/doc/libphp5_common5-5.2.1/README.spl libphp5_common5:/usr/share/doc/libphp5_common5-5.2.1/ZEND_LICENSE libphp5_common5:/usr/share/doc/libphp5_common5-5.2.1/configure_command libphp5_common5:/usr/share/doc/libphp5_common5-5.2.1/php.ini-dist libphp5_common5:/usr/share/doc/libphp5_common5-5.2.1/php.ini-recommended php-devel:/usr/lib/libphp5_common.la php-devel:/usr/lib/libphp5_common.so php-devel:/usr/src/php-devel/sapi/apache/libphp5.module.in php-devel:/usr/src/php-devel/sapi/apache_hooks/libphp5.module.in So it seems there is the libphp5_common5 that you can check if you are missing or not by doing the: rpm -qa |grep libphp5 No need to use locate because we already know the path to the library. But I will put the apache snippet on php that is at /etc/httpd/modules.d/70_mod_php.conf. <IfDefine HAVE_PHP5> <IfModule !mod_php5.c> LoadModule php5_module extramodules/mod_php5.so </IfModule> </IfDefine> <IfModule mod_mime.c> AddType application/x-httpd-php .php AddType application/x-httpd-php .phtml AddType application/x-httpd-php-source .phps </IfModule> <IfModule mod_php5.c> <IfModule mod_dir.c> DirectoryIndex index.php index.phtml </IfModule> </IfModule> We can see that the library is actually on extramodules/mod_php5.so now you can do a locate (if you dont have it download mlocate). If you find it then everything shoudl work but if you dont have it probably an apache package was missing.

    Net-o-profile

Hi I run net-o-profiles to switch between my home and business networks. However many apps don't get the new settings. Example, my opera browser and Gnome (gnome-network-preference). So I want to know if its possible to run scriptsof this application. I would like to invoke a script I did to finish the job or maybe use some of the tools within the mandriva network profiles. Thanks.

    Urpmi locking out

I been experiencing problems with urpmi ever since I re-install it in my system. The urpmi database will not remove the .LOCK and .RPMLOCK files from the /var/lib/urpmi/ directory causing the database to remain lock after an update check up or a different installation. This is a new 2007.1 'spring' installation with urpmi version 4.9.21 Thanks. [moved from Installing Mandriva by spinynorman]

  23. Hi I want to change my IP from dynamic to static using the command line. Currently I will do something like this: Open Mandriva Control Center Go to Network and Internet Go to "Reconfigure Network Interface" On Device choose my ethernet card On Protocol switch from DHCP to Static Insert IP/Netmask/Gateway Click OK So I think on the cli the process will be something like: $ su Password **** $ ifconfig eth0 192.168.1.1 netmask 255.255.255.0 broadcast 192.168.1.255 up $ route add -net default gw 192.168.1.0 However what I want to know if how to find out what I am currently running on (DHCP or Static) before modifiying.
  24. I want a good tutorail on OpenLDAP, anyone have any links? I preffer that the tutorial is oriented to the mandriva environment.
  25. I move it to root cdrom = 'file:/WinXP.iso'
