[root@localhost ~]# uname -r
2.6.39.4-3.2-desktop
I got this version of from the main-testing repo in order to get my DVD/CD drive to work per the 2011 wiki.
How do I know get the version of ndiswrapper that correctly matches?

I had used easyurpmi to add the media.
So I thought may be of I remove all media and add it again that might help.
But this looks like it was a mistake.
Removal was successful but I did get this error when adding the media.
Unable to add medium, errors reported:
...retrieving failed: aria2 failed: exited with 2
problem reading synthesis file of medium "Non-free Testing (Official2011.0-19)"
Although it does look like the media was added
AND I still get this error:

Hello,
I just upgraded to Mandriva 2011.
I have a PC with a NetGear Wireless PCI card and had no trouble using this card with 2010.
When I attempt to add a wireless interface by using a windows driver with ndiswrapper my computer freezes. I do get a pop-up window stating searching for required software and drivers before the PC freezes. Then I have to restart the PC to recover.
I check what software is installed. I have the Ndiswrapper binary loader utility. I do not have a ndiswrapper-kernel.
If I select ndiswrapper-kernel-desktop-latest I get the following error:
Sorry, the following package cannot be selected:
- ndiswrapper-kernel-desktop-latest-1.56-1.20101017.3mdv2011.0.i586 (due to unsatisfied ndiswrapper-kernel-2.6.36-desktop-0.rc8.1.1mnb[== 1.56-3mdv2011.0])
Please Advise.
Thank You.

Thanks, I am all set :)

Hi,
I don't see 2011 as an option in Easy URPMI's version pulldown menu.
2011 is official now right? I have always added media via Easy URPMI.

I finally got it to work by giving up on WPA2 and just using WPA.
For whatever reason Mandriva was the only network device I have that won't work with the router using WPA2.
-
The problem seems to have been resolved.
I just completed a very busy few months at work and had been using my work laptop exclusively.
Upon returning the work this issue with my PC I found there were 472 updates for the system.
After all the updates were installed the MCC is working normally.
Thanks for all the help.

No clue what would be causing this, but one way to sometimes find out more is to start programs from the command-line. Start, login and open a terminal and then start control center (type drakconf). Good chance you will get some more output that at least puts you on the right track.
I was able to start it from the command line. I don't know whether or not this is normal but here are the results:
[root@localhost jose]# drakconf
[root@localhost jose]# "/usr/sbin/drakbackup" is not executable [backups] at /usr/sbin/drakconf.real line 821.
"/usr/sbin/drakvirt" is not executable [Virtualization] at /usr/sbin/drakconf.real line 821.
"/usr/sbin/msecgui" is not executable [security Level] at /usr/sbin/drakconf.real line 821.
"/usr/sbin/tomoyo-gui" is not executable [Tomoyo Policy] at /usr/sbin/drakconf.real line 821.

Hello,
Suddenly my Mandriva Control Center will not start.
Upon launch I get the splash screen that says:
Mandriva LinuxMandriva Linux Control Center
Loading ... Please wait
But after that nothing ever happens.
Otherwise computer seems to be working normally.
I am running KDE One 2010.2 32 bit.
Recommendations?
Thanks

I tried clearing the connection and recreating it, didn't work.
I tried cycling the power to the router, didn't work.
Firewall is configured to no firewall.

Hello,
I have a new router. I have been able to connect all my wireless devices including Win7 PCs, Wii, DSi's, wireless network printer with no trouble except my Mandriva 2010.2 KDE PC. From the graphical control panel I am not getting any useful feedback beyond a connection failed message. I am using WPA2-PSK which I have used in the past with no trouble. Any suggestions on trouble shooting would be greatly appreciated.
Thank You,

Somehow KDE got dropped during the upgrade. Installing task-kde4 and all the associated dependent rpms solved the problem. Thank you for the help.

Hi,
I have had an unexpecting result attempting to upgrade from 2010 to 2010.1 (KDE versions) in this fashion:
1) removed 2010.0 media sources from MCC
2) added 2010.1 media sources via Easy URPMI
3) used the terminal command: urpmi --auto-update
4) restart
The boot menu listed Mandriva 2010 Spring which was a great sign. However, it appears KDE did not fully upgrade.
There no icons in the menu. There is no "Configure your Desktop" option anywhere. Right click on desktop does nothing.
The task bar and menu look very minimalistic.
Here is picture of the desktop:

Any suggestions?
Thank You in advance,
Jose

Try "switch to manual mirror selection" and try a different mirror.
Switching mirrors worked. Thank You. Now to upgrade ...
-
Thanks, I did not know there was more than one easyurpmi site. I just follow the link on the mandrivausers page.
I gave it a go however I get failures of the type: "retrieval of [ftp://mirror.cc.columbia.edu/pub/linux/mandriva/official/2010.1/i586/media/main/release/media_info/synthesis.hdlist.cz] failed (md5sum mismatch)". This occurs for all the media.
Can someone advise?
Thank You,
Jose

Hi,
I want to upgrade from 2010 to 2010.1.
I am running KDE One.
MCC is informing me the upgrade is available but if I attempt to upgrade via that path the choices are limited to Free and Powerpack.
In the past I have upgrading by deleting my media sources and then using Easy URPMI to add media sources for the newest version of Mandriva. I am thinking about going this path again however I do not see 2010.1 as a choice in Easy URPMI. Will 2010.1 be added? If so when?
Thank You,
Jose

I just upgraded from 2008.1 to 2009.1 with no problems what so ever.
I skipped 2009.0 because it wouldn't run on my system due to udev errors.
I think 2009.1 is great !!! Well done Mandriva.
I was nervous because this is my first experience with KDE4 and KDE4 takes a lot of bashing on this forum.
I think that bashing, at least for the KDE4 version of 2009.1, is undeserved.
I consider myself a prime target user of Mandriva. I use it on as a home desktop for e-mail, web surfing, managing mp3's and digital photos etc.
The typical home user with no real interest in becoming a linux administrator.
If you are like me don't sweat the KDE4 bashing on this forum.
2009.1 with KDE4 rocks!

I got it working with the MPlayer plugin.
Upon checking all the Firefox plugins, I noticed I had both the MPlayer and Totem plugins.
And I noticed Firefox was defaulting to the Totem plugin.
Rather than finding out why the Totem plugin was not working I just uninstalled Totem.
Now Firefox is defaulting to the MPlayer plugin and all is well. :D
Thanks for all the helpful suggestions!

I had to reinstall 2008.1/KDE recently.
Before the reinstall if I was in Firefox and encountered a *.wmv file on the web it would open and play in a new tab. After the reinstall the new tab opens but the wmv file does not play. I confirmed that the Win32 codecs are installed. Is there a certain plugin Firefox needs to pull in the codecs?

I gave up on 2009.0 and I am sticking with 2008.1 KDE
I just can't get 2009.0 to work with my system.
Udev always fails to start.
-
I fixed my problem. It turned out to be a file permissions thing. Although I am not sure how the permissions got corrupted.
BTW, Mandriva is my favorite Linux distro but my computer will not run 2009.0. Udev never starts.
-
I have 2 user accounts on an install of Mandriva 2008.1
I can no longer log onto to one of these.
I get this message "Could not start kstartupconfig. Check your installation."
Please help.
-
Thanks for the suggestion but no luck
I get a "packages up to date message" but still will not boot in reg. mode
-
I tried again. Same thing with one important exception. I can now boot into safe mode. Are there any terminal window commands I can use in safe mode to figure out why the boot in regular mode fails?

Problem solved by installing dkms-ndiswrapper
so it builds modules with every different kernel
Thanks for all the advice.
