    NVU

If I remember correctly (haven't checked recently) you can download the binaries. That way you don't need to compile. You have to start the program with a start script that's in the folder.
  2. You can use the winesetuptk (it's under support-files) program to configure wine (instead of winesetup). Winesetuptk is the easiest way to get wine working for you. (but in the near future will be replaced by wincfg). Give it a try :)
  3. There's Freevo or Mythtv that you can use to look what's on and to change channels (and capturing). You need tv_grab to get tv-guide listings. I use Freevo and there isn't much to it. Just add the repository to urpmi and use that to install freevo (maybe it's in contrib or plf than you don't even need to that :) ). The same goes for tv_grab (add Thacs rpms). Make sure your tv card works and that's it. Good luck
  4. I have the Hauppage WinTV PVR250. Mandrake won't detect it but the ivtv driver is easy to install. I had one problem: I couldn't change channels with the standard 2.6.3 kernel. You have to go with the 2.6.4 (it's in contrib). I haven't tried 2.6.5. It all works fine. I've thrown away my old VCR. The only thing I need now is a decent video editor. :)
  5. This one works for me ftp://ftp.gwdg.de/pub/linux/mandrakelinux...dates/10.0/RPMS good luck
  6. And limit your upload to 80% of your max. + limit the number of connections allowed (if you use Shadows change the settings to dialup/isdn if you have a relatively low (like me :() upload)

    Move command

With the move (mv) command comes a lot of different options (flags). With the command mv --help you can see most (all? I don't know) of the possibilities. With <Tab> complete the chance that you will make a typo is minimal. So what you should do is: after tmp/j2 tick <Tab> and if the name of the package appears it is really there. Then /usr (not user)/etc etc. (if not sure just tick <Tab>. if the folder exists the name will appear, if not, not :) ) Good luck (for a list of commands go here)
  8. I haven't installed it yet since the ivtv driver for my TV card won't work (blame Mandrake for that. It is working in Gentoo :() so there is no point. Freevo is written in python and there is basically no installation to take care off after all the dependencies are in place. There is al list of those on their website and if they don't have an urpmi repository for 10.0 you can install them manually. The same goes for tv_grab. I installed Freevo using urpmi. I found that the 1.4.1 didn't work very well for me. I uninstalled the program and I downloaded Freevo from CVS and just copied it to /usr/local (there is a file in /etc/freevo you have to edit). It worked great (with a few minor annoyances)
  9. I have been using Freevo (untill I upgraded to Mandrake 10.0 and can't get ivtv to work :( ) and it works great ones you get the hang of it. The problem is editing the local_conf.py but when that is done it is easy as breathing. Installation is easy. You can use urpmi (see the instructions on the website) and Thac has rpm's for tv_grab (also urpmi). (If you don't have a TV card yet I recommend Hauppauge WinTV PVR250/350)
  10. Don't bother with Cinelerra. It's not stable. It's chrashing all the time and the results of your work will look horrible I think I have tried all video editing packages that exist for Linux and none will do what I want (basic stuff). Best is to wait and try again in a few months. (Kdenlive) looks promising but is still alpha)
  11. What you have downloaded are the binaries and not the source. You don't need to do any compiling. It's all ready to go :) In the NVU folder is a shellscript you can use for starting the program. To test it open a terminal, cd to NVU and run it ( ./NVU) If it works, you can make a link in /usr/bin to NVU so it's in your PATH.

    wine x emule

I guess it could be a font problem. Try copying some to your windows/font folder.
  13. Sorry but this morning I was in a bit of a hurry. Here's the direct link. This worked for me. Good luck.
  14. I'm sorry I don't have much time and can't tell you exactly what to do but the answer to your question can be found in the KDE-mailinglists (It workerd for me, not for Blender but for another program :) )

    BITTORRENT

Because when the download is interrupted you need the torrent to continue downloading. I use SHADOW bittorrentclient (http://bt.degreez.net/). You get a decent GUI to edit your preferences and there is some download optimization. Installation is easy, just untar and associate .torrent with btdowloadgui.py. That's it. A reason why you should use bittorrent is suprnova.org. :)
  16. Did you create a new user for 3.1.4? And did you build KDE logged in as that new user? (http://developer.kde.org/build/build2ver.html) The only thing you have to do is go to a console, log out the default user, log in as new user and do 'startx'
  17. I build KDE from CVS last week (hope this works for 3.1.4 too) and needed for KDE-artwork to compile to install a lib that's in mesa-devel. Mesa-devel you'll find in a RPM package called xfree86-static.devel (sorry can't remember the exact name). Good luck
  18. Try ./configure --prefix=/usr. That should do it.

    KDE cursors

The diretory you are looking for is hidden (.icons). Just choose 'show hidden folders', untar the icons, copy the cursors to .icons and edit the index.theme in 'default'. If for some reason you don't have these folders you must create them yourselve.
  20. Did you do 'modprobe i2c-proc' before you did 'sensors-detect' ?
  21. Follow the instructions on this http://plf.zarb.org/~nanardon/urpmiweb.php webpage (plf is listed under '3 - add-ons'). Then use the mandrake control center to install the program (install software, choose source, choose plf choose mplayer). To remove the program: if you installed from source, as root, type ' make uninstall' in source directory. If you installed a rpm use the mcc.
  22. That too means you have to try different video driver. Best is not too mess to much with the settings. Maybe you should consider removing it and installing it from plf. That will give you the GUI's and the codecs. It shoud work without problems. At least I don't have any.
  23. Go to preferences, video and use a different video output. Good luck.
