Well I'll give you a point for effort but I don't know about my vote. It isn't exactly what I had in mind

Open the MCC, software, remove software search for ´office´ and remove all openoffice pacakges. To install, untar the openoffice tar, delete the desktop/distro integration packages you don´t want, add the folder as a local repo, in the MCC go to install software, open the repo, select every package and install. (for more info about installing software look in thewike, link at top of the page)

You must (well not must but I find it more convenient since you will have to install a few 100 packages and a GUI gives a better overview) install through the MCC (look in the wiki) in Icewm. Boot into icewm, open the MCC, search for xorg and install the mde packages. :) Here some screenshots to make things more clear.

If you use KDE, rightclick the windowbar, choose advanced, special windowsettings, tab geometry and chack desktop and select the desktop number.

Boot into failsafe mode, type: init 3, login as root (by typing: root and your password) and type: mcc. Select the vesa driver for your card, safe the new settings, log out as root, login as normal user and type: startx . Good luck.

What card are you using? (open a console and type: lspci -v and post the relevant part of the output)

Are you looking for a Linux RDP client? I believe krdc is pretty good. Never tried it to manage a sound application though. If it doesn't support all the features you want you will have to use an open standard like vnc.

You need to use a software mixer like arts or dmix. Better install a newer version of mandriva (le 2005 or 2006.0). They come with dmix enabled as default.
