  1. Hello. I 'm running Mdk 10 Official and was wanting to upgrade Gnome from 2.4 to 2.6. I was planning on changing my urpmi sources to cooker and then urpme gnome ,urpmi gnome and then changinf my sources back. Will this work? Will it break anything? Do I need to delete any .gnome folders first? Is this totally wrong? Is there a better way to do this? Any help will be appreciated.
  2. Iphitus , you were right on the money. That was the problem. Thanks for the help, I was really starting to get frustrated. If it wasn't for this board I would probably give up linux and go buy a mac lol.
  3. Also I got the java rpm from here http://www.java.com/en/download/linux_manual.jsp...
  4. I've read all the stuff at the mozilla site but still can't seem to get this working right. The version of java I installed was j2re1.4.2_04. After I ln -s the plug-ins I can restart the browser and it runs fine and java works perfect. However after a logout I can't even get firefox to launch. I've never had this before... should I try an older version of java or maybe go back to firefox 0.7?
  5. Okay I've installed firefox by unzipping the tar to /usr/share/firefox as root. I made an icon on my desktop for it and at first it worked but I went to install the Nvidia drivers (which didnt work....I just installed 10 OE ....I never had any problems before) and when I restarted X it decided to die for some reason. It will run fine as root from the console but if I try to run it as a normal user I get this error- $ /usr/share/firefox/firefox INTERNAL ERROR on Browser End: Expected a version > 5! Version = 4 System error?:: No such file or directory I should probably mention that right before I tried installing the Nvidia drivers I had installed the java plug-in and it worked fine. Is this a problem with permissions or something that the plug-in did? I have no idea. Any help would be appreciated.
  6. Thanks for the advice. I think that link is just what I was looking for. I'll give it a try later tonight and post if I hit any snags. Thanks! :D
  7. Hello everyone, Okay I have mdk 9.2 installed and want to wipe my hd and do a fresh install of mdk 10. The problem is that I don't have a burner...I've done an install from hd before using this tutorial before but it's using windows. My windows partition has been gone since 9.2 was installed. I really don't want to install windows just so I can install linux and then have to uninstall windows again. Is there a tutorial out there for doing this under my current install of mdk? Or does anyone know of any apps I can use in place of the win32 ones used in the link? I'm a little bit lost and could use some help :P Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
  8. I have a usb ms sidewinder and it will only work if I'm running as root.... I've added joydev, hid, and sidewinder to my modules.conf. It's always worked before in older versions of mandrake. Anyone have any advice? I'm tired of having to su to run gnomeboyadvance :P
  9. Nevermind I just tried again and it worked. Mods please delete this thread.
  10. Ok, I'm tried to install 9.2 from my harddisk following this guide. And everything went fine until it got to the partitioning step. What happened was I selected "Use Free Space on Windows Partition" and then after I picked how I wanted it to be resized it started like normal with the hourglass and everything but after it finished it gave me a "no hdlist found" error and kicks me back to the partitioning options menu. I've installed mdk and some other distros several times but this is the first time I've tried to install from the HD. BTW it did successfully resize the windows partition and create / and /home. What am I doing wrong?

I run the game in 800x600 in mid level settings and get about 35-40 fps most of the time. I installed the game under the windows partition of this machine for my brother and do notice it gets a slight fps boost. A driver issue perhaps? Anyways I'm running it on: 1.4ghz Athlon 256mb Ram GeForce2 MX400 64mb 2mb/s downstream cable

Hey you guys should check this game out for sure. I downloaded the demo after zero0w posted about it a few weeks ago and fell in love with it.I bought the retail later and its the best PC game I've played in a LONG time. I haven't had this much fun since when quake 1 came out. It's an RTSS which stands for real time strategy shooter which basically means its like an rts with human controled units. Each team gets a commander who plays rtts style and everyone else plays as a unit fps style.....hard to explain but trust me it's awesome. Plus they have GREAT linux support (win32/linux install on the same cd....not hidden away like Ut2k3, really helpfull devs with a forum just for linux users, and get this...linux support listed on the box! No way!)
  13. this looks pretty cool. is it anything like gran turismo? ive been looking for a good racer for linux for a while. anyways there is a calibration tool built in from what i gather http://torcs.sourceforge.net/sections.php?...artid=10&page=2 id also check out the "how to drive" tutorial they have there.
  14. sorry i shouldve included all that. i cant boot into linux so i wasn't sure how to check all that stuff but i put in cd1 and picked custom partitioning and got this: hde1 fat32 (i have windows me on here because its my families comp and they dont really like linux) hde5 ext3 hde6 linux swap hde7 ext3 so on this machine right now i have windows me and mdk9.1 dual-booting using lilo.
  15. hello. ive been using linux (RH,Mdk,ec.) for a while now but i mainly use it and havent really learned any of the techie stuff other than problems ive had. well anyways ive been running mdk9.1 for about two months with no problems (other than my usb sidewinder) and today my system froze and i did the usual RSEIUB stuff and when it rebooted it got to mounting local filesystems and hung...no failed error or anything i sat and waited like 20 minutes and nothing. so i rebooted again and the same thing happened. does anyone know how to fix this or do i just have to reinstall mdk? i really dont want to have to do that seeing as i have a pretty custom layout that ive just now gotten the way i like it and i really dont want to have to compile a bunch of software again :?
