  1. I see. I guess you are using KDE. I'm using Gnome, and I don't have this command line. Thanks for sharing anyway.
  2. Thanks for the info. I'd like to try it as well. Can you please be more specific as to where exactly (in which file) this line should be added?
  3. I still don't understand if the problem is at HW level, OS level or application level. Was the file played on the same computer, or another machine? If on the same computer, was it played on the same OS? Does Amarok play other files regularly? Can you try and play the file with another player, like M-player? Many questions, but they'll help us to map where the problem is.
  4. I'm assuming you already know how to configure your repositories through the MCC. If this is not the case, let us know. Other than that, I don't believe that OO 2.4 was already uploaded to the repos. You can download the RPM files themselves through the links here: https://mandrivausers.org/index.php?showtopic=54534 If this message was in Chinese for you, don't hesitate to ask more questions. Welcome aboard!
  5. I would suggest first shutting down the X display (for example, by pressing Alt-Shift-F1), logging into root, and then run Drak3d, or XFDrake. You'll find it in the menus. Regarding your problems - I am running 3D effects on my machine ever since 2007.0, and usually it works out-of-the-box. You can come back with more details about the problem you are suffering from and have the expert's advice (probably driver issue, but I'm no expert :) ),
  6. You can try SuperKaramba's widgets.
  7. Open Office 2.4 was released earlier today. For a list of new features, look here.
  8. Sorry, didn't see that the first time.
  9. It's not that I'm complaining or anything, but I'm running Mdv 2008.0 with Gnome (installed form live CD) and have no such problem. How come? Is this bug not universal?
  10. I don't know if it's still relevant, but I've started using qtoctave together with easyplot. Together they offer almost full IDE for Octave. Both of them are available in RPM, and I had no problem installing them. qtoctave's web page: http://qtoctave.wordpress.com/what-is-qtoctave/ Download: https://forja.rediris.es/frs/?group_id=60
  11. According to the Times site, Intel is going to release the low-cost laptop classmate PC in the West. In most countries, the classmate is distributed with Mandriva,
  12. I second! Though I doubt it if they will publish a correction. Nevermind, for next time.
  13. If it's repeatable and you have a few minutes, you can look for this bug, and if it's not there, you can submit a bug report. Maybe no one is aware to this problem.
  14. And if you are using Gnome, click System -> Preferences -> Keyboard Shortcuts. Roll down the list and you'll find it under the Desktop section.
  15. OK, after I chose the "No Firewall" option I could ping, but ticking the "Echo request" alone was not enough. Anyway, even after the ping is enabled, I still don't see PC1 from PC2. Either I'm doing something fundamental wrongly, or something is mis-congfigured in (at least) one of my systems.
  16. Hi, and welcome to the board! I know it's not a direct answer, but if you have Internet connection, I would suggest not to install anything from the DVD. Configure your URPMI (wait, don't panic! ;) ), then go to Mandriva Control Center (MCC), then go to the SW Management tab, and choose "Manage SW". Then look for CUPS in the text box. Now, about URPMI: you can connect to repository of software packages, ready to be installed on your Mandriva machine. You can configure it from MCC ("Configure media sources for install and update") or by pasting commands to the terminal. Anyhow, I strongly recommend to read more here - a brief tutorial about what it is and what it is good for. Personally, I never needed to install anything that I couldn't find in the repos. Good luck!
  17. Wait, my bad. PC1 is 192.168.1.101, PC2 is 192.168.1.102. Still the problem remains.
  18. On my network both computers have the same IP (I checked it with ifconfig), so I left it with * (I don't care to open this folder to the whole network). Reboot the "server" didn't help.
  19. Thanks, but in MCC, the "Use NFS shares" shows nothing (after the package was installed in the first usage). I mean the list is blank. Even after I click "Search new servers", so I don't know what I should configure and how to do it.
  20. Hi everyone, I have two computers running Mandriva 2008.0, both of them are connected to the same Linksys router via (wired) LAN. I want to be able to share a folder, i.e. to define one of the folders in PC1 to be also accessible from PC2. In PC1 I used MCC -> Network sharing -> share your data through NFS, and there I picked the desired folder. Then I went to PC2, but under Places -> Network I don't see anything besides Windows Network (which is naturally empty). In PC1 I tried to play with Host Access (changed from * to 192.168.1.0/8 and other options), and also with User Id Mapping (changed from "No user UID mapping" to the other options), but nothing helped. As always, I will appreciate your advice. Thanks!
  21. Yes, you can submit a bug report here: http://bugzilla.mandriva.com/ Start to report a bug and you'll see that 'new package request' is one of the 'products' available.
  22. Hi tyme, I see you have this cool task bar on the bottom of your screen. Can you give me a hint how you made it?
  23. Not on my system. The old kernel remains the default (which is totally reasonable, maybe you don't want to go and replace kernel to users without their explicit permission or act). Of course, it can be easily configured through the MCC (Boot -> Set up boot system -> Next, and modifying the new kernel to default).
