  1. In case you are using Gnome, try System -> Preferences -> Sessions, then click the tab Startup Programs.
  2. If you are using Gnome, you can try Applications -> Tools -> CompizConfig Setting Manager, and there you can configure the parameters and hotkeys for all the effects. I guess the equivalent in KDE also exists, I just don't know exactly where.
  3. If you mean in the OS and you're using Gnome, you can try System -> Preferences -> Appearance, and choose the fonts tab.
  4. A short remark: I upgraded from the CD's, not from the in-line update. As I said, everything is solved now.
  5. To the admins and mods: I forgot to add [solved] to the topic. When I came now to close it I saw you already had done it. My apologies.
  6. OK, I upgraded from the CLI and everything is working now. The old packages are gone. Thanks!
  7. Thanks. I think the repos were configured correctly, because I could see the new packages from the MCC. It just wouldn't install them. The weirdest thing: When I followed your advice and ran 'urpmi' from the command line, it found 384 packages to install! So it's now running in the background, and I hope I won't bump into new problems. But still, I don't get it: what's the difference if I'm running from the CLI or the GUI? Shouldn't it be the same? And what went wrong with the original installation? I'll update when the installation is over.
  8. Hello everyone, Last night I thought I successfuly upgraded from 2008.1 to 2009.0 (Gnome), using the Free CD's. I see today that not all the packages were replaced. For example, I see in the MCC openoffice.org-help-en_GB ver 2.4.1.5 installed (and marked with green arrow), and the same package with ver 3.0.0 not installed (and marked with blue arrow). It also introduced me some difficulties. After having no 3D effects, I saw that I ran with compiz 0.7.2 instead of 0.7.8. Installing the new package and removing the old one manually solved all the problems. So is there a way to replace the old packages with the new ones automatically? What went wrong? Thanks!
  9. You got a full upgrade from 2008.1 to 2009.0 in three seconds and zero bandwidth, and you still complain?! :)
  10. Are you logged in as root? From the terminal try 'su root' and then provide the root's password before running the ./configure command.
  11. Thank you everyone. Taking into account all your answers and wanting to minimize the risk and troublesome, I decided to upgrade from the CD's. I have another question: I saw in the mirrors there are 3 CD's: free-cd1, free-cd2 and free-dual (in previous versions there used to be CD1, CD2 and CD3). So do I need the free-dual CD?
  12. So I got the blue arrow notifying me that 2009 is available and ready for installation. Did anyone try it? Does it work? In previous versions I had problems upgrading, so I thought to upgrade from the Free CD's. Which is safer? Can't wait till the files will hit the local servers... B) Thanks!
  13. Sorry, I haven't tried, but I have just seen this: http://mobile.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=08/09/21/0753245 BTW, I'm really curious: how is the MSI wind? I'll be glad to hear your impression.
  14. We don't need more, one will be enough. :) Congrats! Please post the links when available.

    2009 rc1

Thanks for the useful review, interesting to read. If it's a newcomer to Linux, from where will the system remove the packages?
  16. After reading this review I decided to pass. I'll wait for a major improvement in the product, for now OO looks like a much better alternative. Thanks anyway for the links and for clearing the misunderstandings. :)
  17. Great, thanks. I'll try it tomorrow. So I'm left with my question regarding the licensing: Does someone know how Lotus made OO closed code? I'm just curious.
  18. Of course! I knew that! Don't be silly. Of course he wasn't referring to me. Did you lose your sense of humour? Did you really think I had thought he meant to upload Lotus? I mean, just the thought... Ok, you were right.
  19. Wow, thanks. I was in the process of writing you a reply that you shouldn't try too hard, as I really only want to give it a shot and see what it feels like. Hope it wasn't a bother. BTW, I don't get something: As far as my understanding gets, and it doesn't get very far, Lotus is not open source. If OO is distributed under GPL, how can that be? Shouldn't any derivative of OO be distributed under the same license?
  20. I know Lotus symphony is based on OO. I saw the GUI is different though. I guess I'm freak for trying out new things, that's how I got to Linux and open source applications in the first place, BTW. I don't want to create the false impression that I'm complaining, I just want to know if I can install it.
  21. I use OpenOffice as my documents editor, and thought giving Lotus Symphony by IBM a try. The problem is that in their site they only give packages for Red Hat and Suse Linux (http://symphony.lotus.com/software/lotus/symphony/help.nsf/InstallGuide). Am I doomed? Edit: Forgot to mention I couldn't find Lotus in MDV repos.
  22. "Today we’re calling on industry, higher education and people from around the world to get involved and share their ideas and expertise as we collectively explore and design future directions for the Web." Read all about it here (and they put some cool videos too).
  23. Is that so? Please show me the insurance company that has such such a perfect service, and that is willing to give it for free! :)
  24. Ok, thanks. It's not critical for me, I'll wait for MDV 2009.0 upgrade for this issue to be solved.
  25. Thanks for the advice, Greg. I installed FF3 and it works. BTW: Isn't the theme supposed to be upgraded also? In work, I saw that on Windows the back button is big and green, for example. Is it different on Linux, is it because I have FF 2 installed on the same machine, or is something wrong with me?
