  2. no way! look at my coffee! that would be one massive cup of joe!! Its the 12" model. I needed something ultra portable to bring to work and class. This is perfect for me.
  3. word over at mandrakeclub is that there is no such plan in the works. looks like we'll be waiting until 10.0...
  4. I thought they generally release ppc's on every other release. I'd love it if they did though. I just got a g4 powerbook.
  5. I go to the monthly lug meetings here at my school pretty regularly. Its fun. I always learn something, and occasionally, I'm the expert. And thats worth the trip right there.
  6. that should in theory be it. lilo will see the XP partition, and automagically add an entry for it. then at the reboot, you can use lilo to boot either XP, or mandrake. BTW. if you don't format the /home partition, all of your user settings will be preserved, even after a complete reinstall. so don't format /home!
  7. well, we can see where those things installed to by doing this in a terminal as root: updatedb locate yahoo that will tell you where the program installed to. It is likely that many will be returned, so if you wanna paste the return from that command, we'll see where we can go from there.
  8. you will have to install XP first. XP will blow away lilo when it writes to the master boot record. linux will not blow away XP. so do the XP install first, then the linux install.
  9. If you have a crossover cable, it could be done without a router. You need to configure samba on your linux box. there should be some docs for that in our doc section!
  10. you may wanna try gaim out too. it handles yahoo just fine. as well as many other IM clents.
  11. I have no experience with yahoo messenger, but it is rare that an installed program puts an icon on the desktop. in fact, I'm not sure if I've ever seen that. If you are in kde or gnome, go to the "start" area of the bottom bar, and go to networking/instant messenging. do you see it there?
  12. "And knowing is half the battle!" I always wanted to be like Snake Eye's He da man!
  13. "G.I. Joe!, Real American hero!!!!!"
  14. you need to get your hands on the transgaming version of wineX http://www.transgaming.com/ there's a great how to also: http://mandrakeusers.com/DOlson/tutorials/...s/winexcvs.html
  15. I just noticed I sayed g3...I meant g4. I'm an ass. fruit makes sweet hardware. and I'll be able to run OSX and Linux on it. best of open and closed source if you ask me.
  16. my power book G3 arrived with a free bluetooth mouse. actually...the mouse arrived...no powerbook yet. damn apple.
  17. could you retranslate that in layman's terms qeldroma?
  18. I will soon be the proud new owner of a 12" apple powerbook. I am beyond excited. I am having trouble deciding whether or not I will keep OSX on it. so how about a simple vote to help me decide? The question comes down to the question of how deeply commited I am to the open source philosophy. I feel like I'm being profane not using linux on any piece of hardware, no matter how pretty the OS.
  19. multiple desktops for me is just a way to spread my applications out and not have tons of clutter on the screen.
  20. taken from cooker mailing list Two weeks ago, I had a private discussion with Jacques Le Marois about this. It is necessary to encourage people who are participating. The club is an easy way to participate giving an important source of income. It is important to improve the advantages for the members of the club. The download edition will be availaible for anybody when the boxes will be available. It is sure that some "piracy" will appear. But don't care... This can give a taste of the forbidden fruit ! and give newcomers;-)
  21. good point rxcau. jkcavenaugh: if you are willing to leave the comfort of KDE for something a little more minimalistic, you can try fluxbox. that topic has been beaten to death many times. If you search, you should find tons of info for it.
