  1. This question came up before a while back. I'm using Krusader, which is modelled on Total Commander (runs under Windows) Krusader homepage here
  2. I upgraded to 1.3.12 from the stable version and found that I can't rotate an image using Image-Transform-Rotate. Either it hangs until I close the image, or the image is rotated with a third cut off. I also find other applications run noticeably slower with Gimp open. I reinstalled the stable version and the problems disappeared I read about this same problem here with version 1.1.11. Looks like it's come back again. Anyone else noticed this or other problems?
  3. I'll just add another one here. Bought the Epson 2400 Photo last week and I'm very happy with it. Easy to install and easy to use. It's my first scanner, so I can't compare to others, but the results are good and the machine itself looks sturdy and well-made

    New Icons

I just got Umicons from KDE-Look.org in tar.bz2 format and installed it with KDE Control Centre-LookNFeel-Icons-Install new theme. What type of file did you download?

    NVIDIA driver

There is a good tutorial to install the Nvidia drivers here. As far as I know this is a universal driver for all geforce cards on Linux. It would help if you could post your XF86Config file. (/etc/X11/XF86Config-4)
  6. I'm thinking of buying a relatively simple scanner(1200x1200, 48 bit, $100), mostly for scanning photographs. I've looked through the forum, but most of the info deals with scanners no longer on the market. Can anybody recommend a current USB scanner that works with 9.1? I've checked the Mdk compatibility list, but didn't find a suitable scanner compatible with 9.1 I have a Epox 8K3A mainboard
  7. Have a look at this FAQ You could also search this forum for "multiboot" or "tripleboot"
  8. This looks like it's the new address
  9. I'm back to Mandrake after trying out Gentoo for a month. I found there's too much work involved with Gentoo and I guess I'm not experienced enough (or too lazy) to make it run the way I want. Mandrake is my default distro and I like it because everything works without too much effort and there's still room to tinker around
  10. OK, thanks, I got it working. I needed to copy bzImage to Mdk /boot and configure lilo accordingly
  11. Just finished installing rc4 without installing lilo or grub. I want to boot Gentoo via lilo in Mdk, but all the information I found hinges on having a /boot partition in Gentoo, which I don't have Where would I look in Gentoo to find what to put in Mdk lilo.conf?
  12. If you right-click on the top of XMMS you will see a menu. Go to Options/Preferences. Make sure "Save window positions" is enabled and check the value for "Snap windows at ? pixels". Mine is set to 10 pixels. If this value is too high, you won't be able to place the XMMS window where you want to Go back to Options and make sure the "No playlist advance" option is unchecked. If this is checked, XMMS will play one song then stop.
  13. A few things to check: is "Automatic IP" disabled in mcc/networking? Do you have a firewall set up? The settings might be too aggressive.
  14. This is really just off the top of my head, I think if you boot with a floppy, there's an option to load different parameters. You should see a message that says something like "If you wish to add default options to the boot command, enter them here" I think that's where you would specify your new kernel, but I don't know what to write Perhaps some RH users will step in with more concrete information

    lilo issues in 9.1

I always thought if you make the changes in mcc, you don't have to run lilo after?
  16. I don't have RH installed anymore, but if I remember right, you have to choose the new kernel at bootup. RH will load the default kernel unless told otherwise. See if the new kernel option is in the lilo/grub loader screen
  17. If there are no errors for your soundcard, check the volume. I think 9.1 has the volume set to zero on install. Do "aumix" in console. Check if you have supermount enabled, if so, try without. My system works OK with supermount, but I've read about lots of problems with it
  18. I don't think this is relevant to your problem, but I noticed you don't have "Load glx" in your config eg mine looks like this: Section "Module" Load "dbe" # Double-Buffering Extension #Load "/usr/X11R6/lib/modules/extensions/libglx.so" Load "v4l" # Video for Linux Load "extmod" Load "type1" Load "freetype" Load "glx" # 3D layer EndSection I also had startup problems with X until I removed the line about libglx.so BTW, I'm using the 4363 drivers
  19. There's this page also. Gives you a 9.1 package
  20. My file manager (Krusader) stopped working recently. If I click on the icon, it tries to start in the taskbar and the CPU activity goes up to 50% and stays there until I kill -9 it in console. Running Krusader from console gives this error: and it won't start Running it as root in console brings up the program, but with this error: Anybody know what this means?
  21. I downloaded the latest nvidia drivers and installed on my default kernel and recompiled kernel. Love the way it compiles automatically to fit the new kernel! Took care of whatever problem it was that I had. I still don't know how to fix the problem, but who cares, my system runs
  22. Well, I did rpm --rebuild on both the -kernel and -GLX files. The rpms went to usr/src/....i586. I tried to install them, but got a message saying newer drivers are already installed (tex-4191) I don't really know what I'm doing. Do I need to uninstall the drivers I'm using for my default kernel?
  23. I recompiled my kernel according to dolson's tutorial lhttp://icculus.org/~dolson/mdkxp/?c=ttrls/mdkkernel but ran into problems installing the 4191 nvidia drivers. Ater installing and editing the XF86Config-4 file. I get this error: I looked at tyme's post with the same error http://www.mandrakeusers.org/viewtopic.php...hlight=nvidia+o but I couldn't understand how it was fixed. Can someone explain?
  24. I checked IRQ's and turns out The NIC is sharing with the onboard sound If this was causing the problem, wouldn't it affect all OS's on the system? I don't have this problem in windows
  25. If you right-click on a specific output, there's an option to hide it
