  1. I have an Acer 3680 laptop and I'm interested in the feasibility of booting from an SD Card. I think it would end up saving on battery power quite a bit. I have an internal SD slot which I would prefer to use, which shows up as /dev/mmcblk0, or the alternative is to use a USB SD card adapter. My computer will boot off the USB Key, but not off the SD Card slot. I was hoping I could put an entry into grub (located on the hard drive) to boot from the SD card slot. I'm not sure of the exact syntax to use, as all the GRUB entries have (hd0,1) near the beginning, and this wouldn't be a hard disk. I also can't get the device to boot from the USB Card, because I think it needs a boot sector. I can just write the ISO directly to the SD Card, which allows me to mount it as an iso9660 file system, but my laptop doesn't seem to want to boot off that. I've also tried formatting as ext3, and copying the files from the CD onto the drive, but that doesn't seem to boot either. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
  2. The only way I've been able to get the mplayer plugin to work is to add the PLF sources and download it through the software install tool. I've never been able to get it to work through compiling from the source.
  3. I've got Metisse working pretty much flawlessly, and all is good. However, when I go to the KMenu, and select "Log Out..." the only option presented to me is "End Current Session". There's no option for Shutdown and restart. Those options used to be there for Beryl and Compiz, (which weren't stable, which is why I switched). I can shut down by ending the session, and then shutting down from the login screen. But that's really long and drawn out.
  4. As far as the problems with the sound go, here's what works with my laptop (Acer 3680). Open up KMixer, and the Headphones and speakers are actually 2 separate outputs. So, you can enable all the outputs, and then you should hear sound, from both the speakers and the headphones. Then disable them one-by-one until speakers/headphones turn off. For me the speakers are hooked into 3D Surround, while the headphones are hooked to the front channel. It seems that the audio drivers are broken, such that it doesn't sense when headphones are plugged in, and disable/enable the appropriate sound channel.
  5. I may just do that. I had problems with 32-bit Mandriva 2006 no recognizing my hard disk controller (Serial ATA on ASUS NForce Board) and not being able to install it. Since Mandriva 2007 has both the 32 and 64 bits versions on the same disk, I didn't even see an option for installing 32 bit version. After a quick google, here's the solution. Ugh... that reminds me of installing scsi drivers on windows. Why don't they just present you with an option?
  6. I am unable to get flash working in firefox on the 64 bit version of Mandriva 2007. I've downloaded a 32 bit version of firefox and installed that, since 2007 comes with a 64 bit version. I also ran the installer under linux32, because it failed to run otherwise. So, flash is installed with all the files in the proper folders, but when I visit a page with flash, the browser crashes. Deleting the installed flash plugin files resolves the crashing, but then there's no flash. Has anybody else got firefox working with flash under Mandriva 2007?
