  1. A small addition according your tips: After you install a package named 'bash-completion' you will be able to complete the name of the desired service with the TAB button like with a regular command in bash. This package allows much more completions then services - man and much more. Hope this helps :) Phazeman

    Update fluxbox?

you can also get the RPM from my repository: ftp://polop.usc.edu/pub/phazeman/9.1/i586 The RPm is working. It was tested by few people. Just get the fluxbox*.rpm
  3. The most easyest way is to do the next: To check if there are updaed rpms: # urpmq -r --list --auto-select Toc install the updated rpms: # urpmi --auto-select If you wish to work with only specific media (like updates) you should add the next flag to that command: --media updates Works really nice for me. 4. You should really look here : http://tinyurl.com/i2yh I think it's kinda official (Warly is one of the developers in Mandrake) Phazeman
  5. Just wanted to tell you all... there is GREAT and VERY easy to configure firewall available here... ipkungfu it's name... No gui though... BUT ! the configuration is stored under /etc/ipkungfu and all you have to do there - edit 1 single config file (ipkungfu.conf) and tell it what ports you want to be open and what is your internet interface. Then just run ipkungfu and from now on - you are all secured. It support internet sharing, port redirection and all other firewall feautures normal firewall user needs. Want to stop it - service ipkungfu stop !! If anyone interested - http://www.linuxkungfu.org. Phazeman

    NVIDIA driver

Hi I'm having the exact same problem. From time to time my machine hungs and the lights on the keyboard are starting to flash. BUT... i've looked through the logs and found that the last message before the system hung was something about DMA timeout. I can only guess that it's something relative to the nvidia driver and IDE irq sharing or something like this.... and also.. i have the DVD/CDROM drive configured as ide-scsi so i can copy cd's with my burner.. but it doesn't work anyway.. so i might try to redo this setting and put it back as regular IDE. I wish someone find the cause of those hungs.... If anyone wants to try to determine the reason of it and wants to see some logs - just reply to this message in the forum and i will provide any log you need. Thanks in advance. Phazeman
  7. I would suggest you a simple way to do what you want - Install a fresh mandrake system with the software you want to isntall (not more then that)... It will take you long time to select all the packages from the isntallation list, but it worth it. Then, after you finish the install and boot into your newly installed Mandrake - verify you have all the things you need. then in terminal: $ rpm -qa > rpms_list.txt This will create a file named 'rpms_list.txt' under the current location. This text file will contain the list of all the rpms currently installed on your system. Now you have to do some work... Go over all 3 cd's and gather all the rpms that noticed in that files in 1 directory. After you finish doing it - cd to that folder (in terminal) and run this: $ genhdlist ./ This will create a fresh new hdlist.cz file under the current directory, that will hold all the rpms that are there. From now on - all you have to do is mount the 1st iso, copy the newly created folder with the rpms you want instead of the one that is there and handle the hdlist.cz (put it where you need to put it). About the isntallation - i don't really sure how to handle the installation process and make it show the packages that you've added there, and not the default package list that came with mandrake. I hope this helped you with something. Phazeman.
  8. As far as i know - the XD2 supported only for RedHat and SuSe. I've read somewhere on their site that it will support other distros later or something Phazeman
