  1. Tried the full screen also and it is still messed up. Guess I'll wait until the next release. Thanks for trying to help though.
  2. Well I have a pretty good system, but I think that FC5 is faster than Dapper. Then again I really don't notice that stuff unless it is really, really slow.
  3. I've got it installed on my system and for me it really doesn't work at all. It will come up and run, but when I try to zoom in, I get a really messed up map with black spots and the likes. I know the vid card is working with 3D because I can play Wolfenstein ET just fine. Not sure whats going on with my system.
  4. I just replaced Dapper with FC5 and I find it as easy to setup as Dapper is/was. The repos seem to be just as good as apt-get with the things "that I" need. Not sure about the wireless though. I've only have it on my desktop. If and when I ever get a laptop again hopefully it will be able to use the madwifi driver, in which case I will miss Dapper because it did set up madwifi on install. Kind of wish that FC would do that. I wouldn't hesitate at all to recommend FC5 to anyone and would be more than happy to help them get things going.
  5. One thing i did forget to tell you though is after the script is run and you open smart-gui and look at the channels, is that Livna-Stable is enabled. I disabled mine before I used it to update to the latest kernel release.
  6. I tried to install without your script and I don't think I did very good. So I removed smart and reinstalled with your script and it looks like yours when I run the "smart channel --show". Thanks for the script jlc!!! And yes I'm back in Fedora and having fun. Just wish I could get my tv tuner card to work. lol
  7. You really don't need to log in as root to copy files over that need root permission. Now I know you are new, but you can use the "cp" command from within a terminal. Goes something like this.... Fire up the computer and log in as your regular user that you created on the install of mandrake. Open a terminal and type "su" That will give you super users or root power after you type in the password that you gave for root on the install. Remember that on the install it asked for a password for root to do system changes and such and a password for the user (you). Now even though you are root you are still in your users (you) /home directory. Now after you are super user or root you can use the "cp" command to copy files ( the mv command is almost the same excpet instead of copying files you are moving them) say from your (user) /home dir. to the directories owned by root, or that are in the root file system. It would look something like this... cp ./name/of/file (space) /usr/bin In this instance you are copying something from within your user (you) directory to the /usr/bin directory which is owned by root. You can also move yourself to a directory owned by root after the su command and the "cp' a file from one directory owned by root to another. Looks something like this... cd /usr/bin (cd=change directory or move YOU from one directory to another you need to work in) That will move you from your /home/user directory to the /usr/bin directory owned by root. This using this command you can copy something needed from the /usr/bin to say the /etc directory.. cp ./name/of/file (space) /etc. Hope I didn't confuse you and hope I read the posts right before typing all of this. From what I seen you are actually logging in as root. Most will tell you that is a no-no and I know of one here that says "bah" to the dangers of logging in as root. Here is a nice link for all the linux commands... http://www.ss64.com/bash/ Again hope I didn't make things worse. :D
  8. Not sure about ndiswrapper because I've always been lucky to have the right chipset for the madwifi driver which usually gets installed on install. I know it is not very specific mystified, but here is a search over at the Ubuntu forums with "ndiswrapper wep" http://ubuntuforums.org/search.php?searchid=5422971
  9. Hmm. I untar the folder into the dir. that the instructions say too and when I try to pick an airport here in my town it looks like water. Not sure if I'm doing something right. :(
  10. Ugh.......The one place I didn't look. lol Thanks!!!!
  11. I've got Flightgear installed and working but I'm not sure where to put the scenery. From the website... The scenery archive files (ie. w100n30.tar.gz) should be untarred into the Scenery/Terrain directory in your $FG_ROOT. Not sure where that is at. Thanks, FX [moved from Games by spinynorman]
  12. ummm............What about Mandrake leaching off of Redhat in the beginning???? Wanna know what is really gonna kill Linux is the 100 different directions its goes. Face it, you have to really love your computer to learn linux. As in another thread. "Is linux right for my mom". Every response in that thread just shows that Linux is not ready for the desktop user yet. But back on subject, liked stated earlier, Mandrake leached the rpm system from Redhat in the beginning. How many other distros since then have leached the rpm package? I think there are just sore ego's maybe over at the Debian camp about the popularity of Ubuntu.

    TV Card

Ok the reason I'm posting this here is because I was trying to get my tv card working on the linux side. Well since I installed the ivtv drivers I've been having some problems on the XP side. My card will not be reconized and I have to do a system restore to get it to work. Just wondering if my doing anything on the linux side would affect the xp side. Also I'm not really sure how to remove or uninstall the ivtv driver. Done some googling but had no luck.
  15. Ix have you tried this site for help? http://www.mjmwired.net/resources/mjm-fedora-fc5.html#nvidia
  16. Hmmm, I have 0 artist and 0 albumns in my locker. Whats the catch or what am I doing wrong?
  17. Well I started my Linux experience with RH9 and moved around alot as people in irc can tell you. Been using Ubuntu pretty much since it came out and then I left Linux all together for several months. I bought a new pc and partitioned it and installed Ubuntu but for some reason just wasn't happy with it. Not knocking it a bit, but just didn't feel right. As cybr will tell you I've im'ed him more than a couple of times asking him about Fedora, which I have used off and on with 1,2,3, but not really much on 4. I guess I've always missed something about Rh/Fedora and decided to go back with this release and so far I am happy. For me the only draw back Fedora has is that on my laptop that I had at one time it would not pick up and install the madwifi drivers for the wireless like Ubuntu did, that was a nice feature not depending on cat5 cable at all. Other thing is and its probably not a bad thing is the fact that RH/Fedora comes out with an updated kernel quite often. Can be a pain for wirless or nvidia/ati drivers to some extent. So far I am real happy. I have the video and mp3 stuff working from following Stanten Finely's site already.
  18. Now that is just for systems updating/upgrading without doing a fresh install right? I mean you could still do a fresh install and then just wait a couple of days until Fedora releases a fix/patched kernel and then install the drivers. yes/no. :D
  19. And I owe an apology to the board for going off on a tangent in this thread. :( My bad.
  20. http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&hs=axL&...ernment&spell=1 Link to Google refusing to help the U.S. Gov. http://www.google.com/search?q=google+acce...n-US:unofficial Google bowing down to China. http://www.usconstitution.net/ U.S. Constitution site. Read and learn the President does have the right to do what is needed in the defense of the U.S. in times or WAR.
  21. Not to be a jerk or nothing but after Google refuses to help out the NSA or the U.S. gov. with trying to track down possible terrorist, I'm not sure I'd want to use a google desktop or support one. Now, just to be far in that statement and the reason I feel that way is because China has asked or told Google to block any and all searches that deal with "liberty", "freedom" and the likes of that nature. I just find it ironic that Google will not help out its own country in the war agaist terrorism but will give in to the demands of another country to surpress its people.
  22. Ok here is another problem.... My vid card shares memory from the system. Its only a 64 meg card and the rest of the 256 it gets from the system. When I run glxgears i only get like 800 or so frames per second. I don't think that linux is using the full memory of the card. Any suggestions????
