  1. Sounded like a good Idea , so when I tried it ,my terminal reponded with I even cut and pasted from your post to see if it was an operator error with syntax and recieved the same message Any idea as to what may have gone wrong , like what directory I should have been in when or something. Running mandrake 10 community Tuxxer
  2. P2 233 mhz with 320 meg of ram Had problems loading it though , everything went okay ,then went to log in and it seems only grub and bash worked. So reloaded 9.1 and then loaded 10 via the upgrade option, worked fine ,but i assume using the 2.4 kernel , rather than the 2.6 Tux
  3. Well looking at some of the posts , plus my own experience with RC 2 of 9.2 there was not all that much of a change between 9.1 and 9.2. I would have to look more into it , but right off the bat ,there is going to be no change in kernels , for at least six more months, till linus and the boys agree on whats a stable 2.6. If anything , the differences seem to fall into two categorys 1 visible, which all stuff just looks more crystal and clean 2 and the invisible ,which was better driver support , and stuff like that.
  4. urpmi is actually very easy, if you follow this link http://plf.zarb.org/~nanardon/ Check all the boxes presented and then go to step three , which you will copy and paste into a terminal window as a super user. Everything is configed for you. After if you know of a package that you want , just su ,password ,and then urpmi foo , foo being the name of the package. Or urpmi --auto-select will automatically update your system, cooker is one of the sites that you can urpmi from, but its highly not recomended for novice users ,as you could end up rebuilding your system. Wait till ya get to compiling in mandrake ,and the mysterys of QT :) Tuxxer
  5. Do I get it right: when starting the webbrowser Konqueror you want him to open/start with a specific html page? i.e. your homepage? - Start Konqueror. - Open your preferred website - go to the main bar: settings (or options?, sorry don't have an English version here) - go to (click on): save profile 'webbrowsing' - click ok. Restarting Konqueror: now it will open your page. That's how it works here. Thanks Anna , that worked right off the bat for me. Before the start up page was actually a file on my computer and i would have to hit the home button , to go to the home page , but that advice worked perfectly Tuxxer
  6. Download the slacklive CD , never have to use VI again because you have to :) Tux
  7. Its actually in the system setting ,rather than the hardware. tux
  8. Yeah, I was reading an article in the new Linux Format magazine about CD burning apps, and they said k3b was by far the best one. The ones I tried about a year ago, well I was disappointed. I'll try k3b out after I install 9.1. And I'll try one of the mirrors you mentioned. Thanks I think that k3b looks good ,but from that same magazine , i loaded a slackware live onto the hard drive and then switched out the DVD for the CDRW. x-cdroast is still the burning software for me , all I have to do is to make sure that the paths are sorted out ,and its a breeze.
