  2. well i just ran starx and a screen full of details about X.org problem came up. I don't know why it's not working, when it went fine with my pc. Does it have anything to do with 64 bit or the nvidia graphic?

  4. Yea i know easy-urpmi but my fren doesn't have a net connection. But i can dwld it for him if you tell me wat to do.
  5. I just installed Mandriva 2006 32-bit on my fren's pc with AMD 64 3000+, Gigabyte K8N51GMF (NVIDIA Geforce on-board) motherboard and SATA HDD. It installed fine without any prob but after rebooting it displayed a command line interface with the following lines: ----------- Mandriva Linux release 2006.0 (Official) for i586 Kernel 2.6.12-12mdksmp on an i686 / tty1 localhost login: ----------- I had opted for both GNOME as well as KDE but there is no graphics interface. Please help as to how i can go to the Graphics Windowed environment.
  6. I got kernel update files from a magazine cd. The files are 1) linux-2.6.17.6.tar.bz2 (39.4 mb) 2)patch-2.6.17.6.bz2 (7.9 kb) 3) patch-2.6.17.5-6.bz2 (489 b ) Pls tell whether i can use these files to update my kernal. If so, how? [moved from Software by spinynorman]

  9. "Kernel Panic-Not syncing:VFS:Unable to mount root fs on unknown-block (3,9)" I get this error while booting Mandriva 2006 after trying to change the Grub Splash Image. Please tell me how to revert back to the default splash image, or solve it in other way.

Check that you have write access to this file or that enough disk space is available". Please help if there is any other solution, like tweaking the control centre. Thnx again.
  13. Q1. I'm running amarok with Mandriva Linux 2006. The prob is that the equalizer button is not active (not highlighted). I have updated amarok to 1.3.8 through urpmi but still the same problem. There is no prob with the sound though, just that i can't use the equalizer. Q2. How do i update alsa driver through urpmi, as a matter of fact any application? Q3. I can copy files from my windows partitions (fat32) but i can't write on them. It says "Access Denied" when i try to change the permission. Please help n thnx n advance
