  1. I hope that you can use ffi's advice, if not you can update urpmi by this command urpmi.update -a But it only works if you have set urpmi with source lists from http://www.mandrivausers.org/easyurpmi/index.php ;)
  2. If you are using urpmi instead of smart (as suggested by ffi) then try this in the shell, log in as root and type this urpmi.removemedia MDE Next you type urpme kdebase kdebase-common You can remove ALL of your kde packages with this command instead, but I don't think this is necessary rpm -e --nodeps `rpm -qa | grep -i kde | grep 3.5` After removing type this in the shell urpmi kdebase kdebase-common kdebase-kdm Then you should be up and running again. I've tried this my self and I don't use MDE as a reposity very mouch anymore ;)

Hi and welcome on board First of all you have to install some source lists. This is how to: 1. Go to http://www.mandrivausers.org/easyurpmi/index.php 2. Choose your system, and click proseed to 2 3. Choose all boxes and click proseed to 3 4. copy all in the new box 5. Open konsole and log in as root, type su click enter, type your ROOTpassword click enter. 6. Paste the linies you just copy'ed in to the konsole, wait for a few moment and then your maybe will have click enter once more. 7. When konsole stops working click ALT + F2 type rpmdrake (you can find this under System => configuration => configure your maschine) in ther you now will have the opportunity to find and install new packages on your system. All af this can be done in a graphical way, but it's not so easy as this ;) I hope you can understand my danish/english translation.
  4. Are you using Mandriva 2007 or 2007.1? Have you installed alle source lists from http://easyurpmi.zarb.org ? If I remember correct Java is in suorce list from http://seerofsouls.com/. If it's a 2007.1 version then you can find Java in the non-free reposity. It is easier to install Java through urpmi than compiling it your self :)
  5. Thanks guys. I installed the 96xx driver because I before did some problems with the 97xx driver on this graphic card. This install has given me more problems than ever before, today I had to reinstall all kernels and that included afcause the kernel-sources too, but now it's running and my nephews are really excited over Compiz, and are right now bragging about the 3D-desktop to some friends, who are using Windows Vista. Do anyone af you know if there is a guide to Metisse any where? Regards Orts
  6. I've just tried to change from "nv" to "nvidia" in /etc/X11/xorg.conf but it doesn't work And it tells me something like this "error: module does not exist" and something about nvidia.
  7. I'm trying to get a computer up and running with Mandriva for my nephew's, but I can't get the nVidia driver to work for some reason. The graphic-card is a nVidia Geforce FX 5200 128mb I have installed nvidia-96xx, dkms-nvidia-96xx, kernel-source-2.6.17-14 (kernel is 2.6.17-14) and other depending packages, but compiz/beryl and Metisse just won't work, when I run 3D-drake, it tells me that the system doesn't support 3D desktop effects! I have tried to look in /etc/X11/xorg.conf and it look like this Section "Device" Identifier "device1" VendorName "nVidia Corporation" BoardName "NVIDIA GeForce FX - GeForce 7950" Driver "nv" Option "DPMS" EndSection What do I need to change? If you need anything els, just tell me to find it and please tell me how to ;) I just can't figure this one out 3D desktop effect ussualy just work in a second. Thanks in advance
  8. Try to see on this site http://openprinting.org/show_printer.cgi?r...on-PIXMA_iP1500 Maybe there is something there that can help you :)
  9. Thanks for your answer, Jan (my friend) is not what I will call new with Linux, and he told me that he has tried almost anything. And he just can't get Mandriva to work with this network card, but he say's it work fine in Ubuntu and Fedora, so in my opinion it shall work with Mandriva too :D ; But I will tell him about the Madwifi wireless drivers, maybe he hasn't tried them yet.
  10. Mainly just for the fun of it. I had never tried to compile a program, because I didn't dare to do it, I have always been afraid to mees up my computer if something went wrong. But now I've got an old computer too, so I thought it would be a great idea if I tried to install so much as possible "the hard way" with out using rpmdrake. ;)
  11. Thanks, that did the trick. And it was not the only thing I had to install ;) Next time I will install a new pc with Mandriva I won't forget to choose "development", when I come to the Package Selection. Thank's again
  12. Hi I'm trying to install kofiice-1.6.3, but under the configure command I get this error: checking for Qt... configure: error: Qt (>= Qt 3.3 and < 4.0) (headers and libraries) not found. Please check your installation! What do I need to install? [moved from Software by spinynorman]
  13. hi One of my friends has tried to install Mandriva 2007.1 Spring and loves it, but he can't get his network up and running. He is using this networkcard from D-link: AirPlus XtremeG DWL-G520 PCI Does any in here use this networl card? And must of all how did you configure AMndriva to use it? Thanks in advance Regards Orts
  14. It'll be much easy'er to install java from your package manager. Have you used http://www.mandrivausers.org/easyurpmi/index.php to a source list? If yes, just run this as su in konsole urpmi java-sun Then java will installed without any trouble :D
  15. Work's fine. Thanks. I just downloaded it from a testing repo, and installed it with the software installer. But you can add testing to urpmi.
  16. Think I got a solution, maybe not the best but it work's :D I've set the system to use english, and the user to Danish and it seems to work. Not all is English in The Gimp but most of it is :D
  17. Hi. I'm not very good friends with Gimp, and I do believe that it's because that it uses the Danish lang files, cause my stystem runs on danish. Is thery any way to set Gimp to English instead of Danish?
  18. If you still can use some help translating English <-> Danish Then I'll be glad to help.
  19. Hi Found it, it's in /var/log/messages And it was not 6 packages but 8 ;)
  20. I used: grep -in "the word" logged in as user, not root. And I was in the right directory. I've found it in a danish guide to bash, I'm using Konsole can that be the problem?
  21. Hi I've just installed ntfs-support on my Mandriva, but I can't remember excactly which packages that where installed, so now I'm wondering if there is a log file from rpmdrak anywhere? I can find 5 packages that where installed, but I'm pretty sure that that I installed 6 packages. :D Regards Orts
  22. Thanks to both of you :D Konqueror could do the work. Now I just wonder where I've forgotten my head? I tried to use grep reight after my first post in this topic, but it haven't found anything yet. I've tried to search for a word in a other file, which I know where are, and grep haven't found that file either.
  23. Hi I've got some problems finding a dokument, but I'm sure that i can remember some specific word inside it. Is it possible to search for a specific word, when I'm using Linux? In windows I have TotalCommander which can do it, but it would be great if there was a solution for Linux as well, it doesn't matter if I have to use the shell for it.
