  1. I think i will try pcbsd first as i have tried to run freebsd through vmware first but had no joy there, i will see if pcbsd is easyer to run in vmware before i do a full committal Thanks
  2. thanks for that jlc i will look at those again when i get round to installing freebsd maybe in the new year and hopefully i dont get to like it to much as i wish to return to Mandriva when they release a new version. thanks
  3. Well i would say i was still new to linux been using it since may this year, i have learnt a lot of things in the proccess i have found it annoying though that they have a pretty good OS that keeps failing me (mainly the GUI and possibly a lack of experience i'm trying Kubuntu for a couple of days to see how i get on and when there is a newer version of Mandriva i will be sure to give it another try and as for freebsd i will give that a try for now. Thanks
  4. One of my reason for asking is i realy like linux especially Mandriva but the other day when my keyboard refused to respond and i lost the close, minimise and maximise buttons i just thought that was the last straw for me untill such time comes that there is a better version than 2007, so i am looking at freebsd and solaris for the meantime and also Kubuntu and hopefully come back to mandriva when there is a newer more graphically stable release for my pc
  5. What is the differrence between Linux Distro's free BSD and Solaris? and why would you choose 1 over the other, and if what makes solaris the most advanced OS on the planet? thanks in advance
  6. Thanks for that i went looking round mcc (still got windows in the blood, controll panel for everything problematic) thanks
  7. I have a headset i use for skype how can i alter the microphone level in mandriva as it appears lower in mandriva than in windows
  8. Thanks SoulSe ive tried to replace what you advised but all i get is access denied. I ran the glxinfo |grep direct as SU and it returned direct rendering: No. Thanks

  10. I once e-mailed mandriva the same question that Alistair has just asked, that once being about 2 weeks ago and still no reply. Its nice to find the answer your looking for without doing much looking as i was wondering why a free version and a paid for version, in my eyes a free version is very handy to have because if you dont like that version of linux youve lost nothing but if you do like it then buy it and support Mandriva or or what ever distro you prefer, only the othe night i installed Kubuntu to see what it was like as the computer mag i buy highly recomeded it i'm just glad it was free as i would be very upset today if i had paid for it. i suppose thats the advantage linux has over winduz you can try before you buy.
