  1. null: Don't give up, that's what makes linux exciting. I'm running mdk 9.1 and before deciding to "upgrade" to 1.1, I read all the posts here and some posts in the open office forum. The firs thing I did after downloading OOo_1.1.0_LinuxIntel_install.tar.gz was to uninstall the previous version (and its libs) that came with mdk 9.1, including the ~/.open office dir. and followed exactly what BooYah recommended. I had to edit flux menu to change command line to "soffice" instead the old command entry. Good Luck.

    e17 startup

Some of our latest attempts: 1 2 3 4 Actually, it seems that none of us got it to work perfectly.:( I got e17 working here installing the rpms but during evas installation I had to use nodeps trick to make it go,even so I've been loading it via .xinitrc file and don't have any enlightement file or whatever at /usr/x11R6/bin directory. My e17 files are located at : /usr/share/enlightenment, like yours; /home/william/.e and a script file like this at /etc/X11/gdm/Sessions/ my .xinitrc file: Anyway, it would be great to revive these threads!!! Let's help.
  3. I had this sort of problem under Firebird, but after installing a extension named Mozex I could set the browser to open evolution when clicking over a email link. Take a look at here, may it can help you.

    9.2 RC2 screensaver

insert in you .xinitrc file: exec xscreensaver
  5. kilimanjaro. Why instead of compiling you don't try to install through rpms (that is much easier), take note of the necessary dependencies (you can try to find them here), install and make audacity works? Also, you can get some help at here if it's necessary. If I'm not wrong wxWindows has to do with GTK libs, check if you have libgtk installed. and see the output. Please, correct me anyone if I'm wrong. Good luck.

    e17 startup

why don't you try to load e17 via .xinitrc file? at least you'd know if it's really installed or not?
  7. I have ML 9.1 on a Compaq Presario 1700 T. No problem at all. Indeed have some external devices attached (USB zip 750, USB Creative Extigy, Port HUB and USB Port mouse). ML was the distro that recognized my ethernet card during installation process despite having tried RH9.
  8. If you come to the conclusion that the plugin is not being recognized by the browser, take a look at this doc and you can test it here (it says that the flash plugin is installed successfully, if it's your case). I had the same sort of problem with plugins, some you have to do a symlink, others you have to copy the libplugin.so files to plugins dir. Read the mozilla plugin doc page and good luck.
  9. tyme, as I told you I didn't get a sytem wide install here, despite getting it to work with flux after editing my style file. Does anyone here have any clue? What I mean is to have gnome apps running under fluxbox and loading artwiz fonts.
  10. Hi tyme: the hell!!! it worked with that command.
  11. Sorry if not in the right forum.... I have been trying to get artwiz fonts to work , recently. But without success, even after doing a forum / google search. Previewing some possible questions (if a got a help..) here goes what I did: Do I miss something? Any help (as always) will be very much appreciated.
  12. Germ: Unfortunately, I don't know how to explain it, consider the fact that I don't know anything about script and what I did was just to copy, paste and save the file to /usr/local/bin. Certainly I insisted a little and by chance I got it working. But I agree with Dolson's statement. That's quite strange!!! Go to my very primitive and first homepage, click on "my primary desktop" link and you will see (if geocities allows) the the Disk usage report window and Eterm with my gdf.sh file. Sorry for not being able to help you out.
  13. Try this Germ: I got it working after deleting the slashes. (using zenity-1.0-1mdk)
  14. Sorry Dolson, read instead /. I've just copied and paste your script to gedit. It looks like yours.
  15. I got it to work but despite of using the last script (with 3 spaces), when typing gdf.sh I got the disk usage report window but with a simple line reporting the 3 spaces information, like this: How to break it in 3 lines, as you've gotten, one line to each space? Could it be a typo?
  16. It was a typo. Now its Ok with Eterm.
  17. Crash. Running the same mc version of yours. MC got a cool interface here , a pretty one, sure you can imagine, working like a charm. I've been using Eterm instead aterm. I include only the lines that load mc but keeping the same look as my default terminal. I will take a look at the man to see how to change (which session of the command line?) the blue color in the left window under directory tree, cause only the invisible files above it get a complete tranparent effect?!? Thanks again!!
  18. I will include these lines to my menu file, running flux too. As soon as I get home I will try that trick and let you know ..... Thank you very much Crashdamage.
  19. I decided to get familiar with mc so I've installed its latest rpm version. I've started reading the manual, but haven't noticed any instructions to get trans effect. I know trans is possible with mc, but how to get it to work? Do I have to use a specific terminal, like xterm or it works with Eterm or Aterm?
  20. I'm at work now, and nowadays and don't use nor gnome neither KDE anymore, so if I'm not wrong, the app laucher is in the KDE or Gnome panel. Just right click on the panel, a window with some options will be available and choose a new launcher (i'm not sure if it's right, as told you I'll have to check). Creating icons on desktop in linux is quite different than in windows, till what I'm concerned, you cannot drag the icon to your desktop and simply link it to a bin or shell script. the only way I know is the one described above (not using terminal). Concerning the problems with the icons, check if you haven't changed the files view, I don't use nautilus but if I'm not wrong you have basically 2 options:icon and file view. Good luck.
  21. sorry for the bin file it's a shell script You can add the mozilla icon to your desktop using the application launcher, you just need to put the path to the shell script file in the command line. Through the mandrake control center (if you're running MDK) your can use menu drake to set an application in your menu.
  22. Actually, you don't need to install Firebird, just put the Mozilla Firebird folder (untarred, unzipped, etc) in a directory of your choice, open it and look for the bin file (MozillaFirebird) and click twice on it. That's all. It should work.
  23. I could have imagined that this choice of browser and email client is not something usual, but after a thorough search I found a solution using an extension that can be found here. I hope it helps someone when needed.
  24. I'm using Firebird as my default browser and Evolution as my email client and it seems to be quite difficult to make them work together. When using evolution and clicking on a hyperlink, evolution launches Firebird but the url is not loaded. I have to copy and paste to load the page. (at least Firebird is launched) On the other hand, when using Firebird and clicking on an email link I got "mailto is not a registered protocol" error message. It seems that Firebird don't recognize evolution as the email client, so I have to copy the link, open Evolution and paste the address. I've gone to Mozilla Firebird FAQ homepage to find anything concerning the email link problem, but all the help is windows user oriented. Any hint will be appreciated.
  25. Rox Filer, small and very fast.
