  1. I had this once, don't know if I found the correct way to fix it, but if you open your home folder, and rename the .kde folder (back it up if you like first) a new one will be created, reboot and you will be back to square 1, you'll have to do all your settings again, or bring them over from the back up you made, but if you bring all your settings back, you'll most likely get the problem again. This is a quick and dirty way to get your borders back, someone will most likely come along with the correct method, but if your stuck, well .... I think the missing borders thing comes from messing around with themes etc, so be careful there. The bouncing cursor thing (hideous, isn't it) can be disabled under 'Appearance & Themes/Launch Feedback', I can't recall exactly where it is, as I don't use Mandriva anymore, and Kubuntu is set out a bit different, but you'll find it in the start menu somewhere, Configure Your Computer or something. Or just brink up a konsole, and type kcontrol hit enter, and you'll find 'Appearance & Themes/Launch Feedback' easy enough. Then change the 'Busy Cursor' drop down box to 'No Busy Cursor'
  2. Yes, all you need do, is join the club as a Silver member, and you will be able to download the full Power Pack version etc. lol, no that is just a thing in my sig, you can have one to, it only shows your info to you, to someone else it would show their info. You can find out about them here http://www.danasoft.com/ Have a look here, https://mandrivausers.org/index.php?showtopic=39734 he puts your name in his signature ;)
  3. I added extra to the above post between when you read it, and when you replied. You don't have to do both, buy and join, if you join the club as a Silver member, you will get the PowerPack version available to you as part of the deal, just not the boxed version, you'll have to download it, but it's exactly the same thing.
  4. If you joined the club now, you would get access to Man2007, and you would also get access to whatever is released within 12 months of your join date, so, if 2007.1 is released within 12 months from your joining date, you will get that also at no extra cost. Seeing as how Mandriva is now going to be doing a 6 month release cycle, you will most certainly not have to pay again for 2007.1 if you joined the club now. Also it depends on what level membership you choose, if you choose a 'Silver' membership, you will have access to all versions of Mandriva, up to and including the Power Pack. The following page will tell you about different membership Levels, and what you get etc, http://www.mandriva.com/en/community/resources/club The following page tells you about the product lifetime, basically how long a certain release will be supported with security updates/updates etc. http://www.mandriva.com/en/security/productlifetime So, if you join the club now, you'll get Man2007, and then when the new release is ready, you will also be able to access that as well at no extra cost.
  5. You can always download the 'Free' version CD's or DVD, the main differences between the Free and the Commercial is some proprietary software/drivers etc, eg Flash, Adobe Reader, Real Player, Cedega, Flatout, Nvidia/ATI drivers and so on. oh, and maybe some support  , but you can get that here for free as well :D Don't let the 'Free' bit fool you, it is every bit as good as the purchased product, just minus some stuff, most of which you can either get elsewhere, or get replacements for anyways. But if you feel like purchasing the product to give something back or whatever, go for it. Although I no longer use Mandriva, I joined the Club basically to give a little back, sure I got to download the 2007 Powerpack etc as well, but I never installed/used any of the Proprietary stuff anyway, and still had the free version installed on my other PC.
  6. lol, yeah I had a bit of trouble with that, I thought I was going mad for a while there. But there is some kind of thing, where if you post to the same thread within a set time, it will be added to your previous post. (I think thats how it is) If you want, I would be quite prepared to download and send you copies of whatever version you want, all you would have to do is tell me where to post them, it's no problem whatsoever, I would be glad to help. Don't worry about that, they are a great bunch, our 'MUB experts', feel free, impose away, they will help you as much as they can I'm sure.
  7. Hello, and welcome to this little corner of the net. I can not help you with your problem exactly, I don't use Digital Camera's , or any cameras for that matter. But I would suggest to you to perhaps get the latest version, Mandriva 2007, seeing as you have a broadband connection it shouldn't be to troublesome for you. It may or may not help you out with your problem, but at least you will have a far more up to date system, with better support for all types of hardware, etc, etc. Good luck, and have fun.
  8. arctic (or anyone else), I have just downloaded and installed from the netinstall iso, went through and selected the repositories etc, it is now downloading and installing the software for the 'Desktop' choice I think it was called. well, was there somewhere I should have changed the repos to unstable, or do I do this later? I didn't really see anywhere I could have done it, I was using the GUI Installer though, if that makes any difference.
  9. I got my MS Sidewinder FF Wheel and Pedals to work fine under Mandriva, just needed to download a driver or 2, was pretty easy, not sure if the driver was also for other Sidewinder products. I will check it out and let you know, as I am about to set up my wheel again soon (new install), however it may be a day or 2 as I am quite busy at the moment.
  10. KDE for me, to me gnome just seems so sparse, empty, don't really like the look of it, just not what I want I guess. I also find KDE to be as fast if not faster than gnome on my systems, (P4 3.4Ghz, 2 gig RAM etc, P4 3.2Ghz, 2 gig RAM etc) definitely not slower. Plus I'm used to it, and see no need to change, I tried gnome out briefly just to see what it was like, but never really liked what I saw. Like others have said, use what you like the best, what suits your needs the best, don't worry about what others think or say, what's best for you, that is what's best. Everything seems to turn into a battle, Windows v Linux, Ubuntu v (insert distro here), Intel v AMD, Nvidia v ATI, Quake v Unreal (and we all know Quake is the King ;) ), and on and on it goes, it all doesn't really matter, as long as your happy with what you got, who cares.

    linDVD

hmmm, I don't think so, you can get it with, as you said the boxed versions, also if you join the club, you can get it with the Power Packs, however I never used it, don't even think I installed it, I prefered to use things like vlc, mplayer, kaffiene, totem etc. Come to think of it, I never used any of the commercial/propriety stuff from the PowerPack DVD, may as well have just used the Free DVD, but I felt like giving back, so I joined the club.
  12. Mandriva 2007 is damn fine, except for a couple of little niggles that I had, it worked perfectly fine for me, detected and set up all my hardware, (that was a first). However I have moved on to another distro which never had those little niggles present, and am thoroughly happy. I still keep my eye's on Mandriva, and will try out all new versions, and who knows ... Well, it's not really your only option, there's plenty of distro's to go around :) , and why not upgrade to 2007, although some have problems with it, many do not, and it may well work for you. Plus you'll have the latest from Mandriva, fixes etc, go for it. I hope you don't as well, best of luck.
  13. FPS, primarily Quake and Doom series, all inclusive. The only other game I have installed is Torcs, I do like racing games as well. I'm thinking of giving some MMO games a whirl, generally speaking I don't play anything that isn't in the First Person Perspective, but this may change. I was really looking forward to Huxley, an upcoming First Person Shooter MMO game using the Unreal Engine, but I'm not sure it will have Linux support.
  14. Well there you go, I just gave it a whirl just out of curiosity, and it seems to work fine, created an Audio CD from flac files. I have nothing special installed that I know of, I do have all/most of the stuff mentioned earlier installed. Im using kubuntu not Mandriva. I guess you just need to track down what it is that 'flicks the switch' RadioEar

    Firefox updates

Absolutely magnificent !! Spot on, if it works for you . I usually just install Firefox, and Flash manually, I put firefox in usr/local/firefox, and just download the flash plugin from the official site, and extract the file libflashplayer.so to the usr/local/firefox/plugins folder, works just dandy. Any updates to firefox/flash, I just replace the required files, and keep on marchin' .
  16. Does this help, or just hinder, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FLAC Seems it may be possible if I am reading correctly, but the convert to .wav and burn is certainly easier. Plus if you are worried about the quality of .wav, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WAV anyway, good luck with it, hope you achieve what you are after, and have fun on the way :)
  17. Yes, He then must convert them with another program, I use SoundKonverter, it should be able to be found in the repositories, or there are many other alternatives. Then he can burn the resulting .wav files to the CD using k3b, WMP11 or a short peice of 4x4 African Mahogany, but he must convert first.
  18. I must be really thick, but I just don't seem to be able to follow you ..., your first post is all about Linux/k3b/Amarok, and asks the question, from which one could infer you are talking about Linux, yet, in your second post you say, anyway, ... whether or not you are using Windows or Linux, you can not put your flac files on a cd and have them play in a normal cd player (create an audio CD), they first must be converted, whether you do this manually, or the program does it for you, it still must be done. Now, I'm not trying to have a go at you or anything, but help me out here, I think I'm going insane, what you are trying to do is create an audio CD, ie, a CD that will play in normal CD players? correct? If so you must convert. I must go and have a lie down now, you have totally blown my mind.
  19. Well, people run Quake4 with lower system specs than you have, however if you find that Quake4 doesn't run as well as you would like, 1.3 has a an option to use ambient lighting, which they say will really speed things up for you, I think the cvar is r_forceAmbient, not exactly sure, as I don't use the setting, but you will be able to find it in the documentation. Also you can always download Q4max, which has it's own 'ambient light' feature, plus other tweaks available, http://www.q4max.com/
  20. If it was me. and I wanted them to play in a normal CD player, I would just convert the .flac files to .wav files, then just burn the .wav files to CD, and there you have it.
  21. Nice !! //taps fingers and chants ..., kubuntu, kubuntu... ;)
  22. All the Quake's and Doom's will work fine, and you need the retail product to legally use them, you just need to copy the required files. Quake3, Quake3 Team Arena, Quake4, Doom3, Doom3 ROE, you just download the latest official Linux version of the patch/point release, install it, then copy over the needed files, it's real easy. Quake(+mission packs), Quake2(+mission packs) Doom, DoomII, Final Doom, also work fine, you just need to get a Linux client, eg, Darkplaces for Quake, Doomsday/jdoom for the Dooms, and take your pick for Quake2 there is a few to choose from, install those, then copy the required .pak/.wad files over, again easy as. You can get the shareware version of Quake (maybe Doom as well) and use the .pak files from it in conjunction with your Linux client of choice, you will however not have the full game of course. But the best bet is to buy the games, they are cheap as now days.
  23. Well, If you can copy the files over by using the kdesu konqueror thing again, you can then just navigate to the quake4 folder while still in the 'root' konqueror mode, right click on the Quake4 folder, select the 'Permissions' tab, and change the ownership to your user name, and then you should be able to fire up Quake4 no problems, without having to log in as root etc all the time. I know this is probably not the 'correct' way, or the 'Linux' way, but it's easy and it works just fine. You could go through the konsole/terminal and type in all that chmod whaterver goobldygook, but I myself prefer the easy old right click and change while in a root konqueror, too easy. [edit] Which is not to say that learning all the CLI stuff isn't a good thing, on the contrary, it would be most beneficial, and recommended, and is something I plan to do over the course of time, and I have guides/references ready to look up if need be. But for me, and for now, if something can be done easily in a familiar way, eg, GUI, that's how I'll tend to do it.
  24. Another vote for the official Nvidia driver, never had a problem with it, (although I am not keeping up to date with the latest, as there is graphical artifacts in Quake3 with any driver after 8776 thus far, I do try them though to see if it is fixed). While I was using Mandriva there was only one time I never used the official Nvidia driver, and that was when I tried the dkms thing, well, that was also the only time I experienced any problems. But what ever works best for YOU, is what is best.
  25. I done a similar thing once, as far as I know you just put them on the cd/dvd, and set it up as a custom repository/source from MCC. I no longer have Mandriva installed, so I'm just going on memory, so I can't check, but I got it to work without any drama. I didn't make any file or anything, but I may not have been doing exactly what you want/are doing, but it worked for my purpose. Have a look here, https://mandrivausers.org/index.php?showtopic=33826 It tells you how to create the hdlist thingy. You could just try it out, if it doesn't do what you want without the hdlist thing, then try it after generating one.
