  1. hmmmm, I'm not sure you are both on the same page? or, am I the one who is on the wrong page?
  2. It seems that the info available throughout this thread, https://mandrivausers.org/index.php?showtopic=32766&st=0 which to summarize is, Open the file /usr/sbin/rpmdrake search for "post_clean_cache" change the 1 to a0 & "clean_all => 1" to 0 save the file. no longer works with 2007.1. Sooooooo, anyone know how to keep the updates/installations that are done through MCC software Manager, and not have them deleted?
  3. I'm with Internode, they keep up to date with Firefox stuff, and have heaps of Linux stuff as well, all free to download. (They even had Debian 4.0 available to download before I could get it off of other non-official mirrors :P ) Firefox is a very nice browser, and deserves all the market share it gets, although it's got a tough fight on it's hands, not that IE is better or anything, just that it's default on just about every machine that gets sold, and some people don't even know there are alternatives, let alone why they perhaps should use one.
  4. Thanks, That's easy enough, I'm on my other PC now (only standard kernel), just had a look to check it out, will change it when I boot up the other machine.
  5. I just compiled the stock 2007.1 Official kernel to change the system timer to 1000, and it gets automatically added to the grub boot menu thingy. Now I just got to learn how to make it default, never ever bothered before, always just selected it at boot up
  6. awilliamson wrote http://forum.club.mandriva.com/viewtopic.php?t=64424 So I guess if you got the Official 2007.1 from the early seeders/torrents, and installed it you should be OK?
  7. I was a little 'sneaky', and will download it again when it is finally released, however I wonder if what ever was wrong is going to turn around and bite me on the @$$, or will whatever it was be fixed by an update or whatever for those who have it installed already. If it would be best to do a reinstall with the fixed iso's once everything was final, then I wouldn't bother continuing installing games etc, and getting everything the way I want it, and just sit tight until then.
  8. You may find it better to just join the club, then there is no need to actually buy the physical Mandriva media(Boxed Product), as a club membership gives you access to the .iso's which are exactly the same as what you would get with a Boxed version, and you will have 12 months club membership to boot. You do of course have to download the .iso's, If you actually wanted/needed the physical Media, this way may not suit you of course. Of course you can also just continue using the 'free' version. [Edit] You should check the Club site first though, to see what the different levels of membership, Standard, Silver, and Gold (I think), offer you, I am Silver, and with that you have access to everything up to and including the PowerPack DVD versions.
  9. Does not the setting "Show Only Minimized Windows" do what you want?
  10. Would seem to suggest that whatever it was that he ordered has been, well, "dispatched"
  11. I thought that large menu button looked sweet, I also noticed a few weeks/month back that AusieJohn had a larger than normal Menu button (he posted some pic), I was going ask how it was done but never got around to it. Anyway, not being restricted, and being able to customize things to your liking is a great thing.
  12. Very good advice, except if the program at hand was not installed via MCC or an .rpm, like say an sh or .run file , or compiled from source for example, in which case MCC Software manager won't be much help. I just done a quick search with MCC, and I didn't turn up anything related to Savage other than a video driver, so in this case the program may have been installed via another method than MCC/urpmi or an .rpm. But in principle what you say is dead on IMO.
  13. I think it's still there . . . , isn't it ? . . . , something is checking my spelling . . . do do, do do, do do, do do ( <<<< the twighlight zone thing) If you type about:config in the address bar, hit enter, then put spell in the filter box it seems to suggest that there is spell checking going on.
  14. After reading that, my heads in outer space
  15. You can either click the 'Easy-Urpmi' link at the top of this page, or go to the site via this link http://easyurpmi.zarb.org/ Select your version etc, proceed to step 2, select your sources, (you can selct them all if you wish, however might be a good idea if you stay away from 'backports' for now) just select the top 4, main, main_updates, contrib, contrib_updates, they may be selected by default, then from the drop down box, select a mirror, one close to you may be best, you can enter a prefix if you wish, and if you put a tick in the check box 'Use compressed index, much smaller than normal, with less informations' the info download will be much smaller/faster, proceed to step 3, open a konsole, type su, hit enter, type your 'root' password, and then enter the info that is displayed at step 3, let it do it's thing, close the konsole, open MCC Software Manager, select 'Look at installable software' and search for the required packages as suggested, and install them etc
  16. Forgive me, I didn't respond here, because at the time I received the PM from Moldy, there was no post here to reply to. I haven't got a copy of the reply I sent to Moldy, Moldy can post the contents if he wishes, but it went something like this, (condensed) I don't use ati, so I don't really know, but, I would uninstall the old one before installing the new one, nvidia does this automatically, wouldn't have a clue about ati. For Cedega, I suggested he use MCC Software Manager, set up his repositories, and then search for what was 'unsatisfied', in this case 'dbus-python' and install it, I also suggested that he may need to install the devel package for that also, then try to install Cedega again. For Limewire I just basically said the same thing as I did for Cedega above, install the java package, and then retry the Limewire installation. I also told him, that I was basically a Linux newbie myself, and may not be the best person to be asking, however I was happy to help as much as I could, and that there were many far, far more capable people on the forums who could help him better than I could, and not to be worried about posting questions on the boards.
  17. Hi, moldy, I replied to your PM, I don't use ati so I am not the person to answer you question on that, but someone will come along to help you out. But try out what I said about the Cedega and Limewire stuff, and if that doesn't work, just post back and someone will be able to get you sorted I'm sure. Oh, and welcome aboard :D
  18. This problem also seems to have vanished with my new installation of 2007. I have learned a little of how Linux uses Ram, and not to worry if it appears that it is all being used up, this it seems is how it is supposed to be (as was mentioned earlier in the thread), however I couldn't overlook the performance hit I was getting. I had read somewhere, Mandriva Club forums I think, of a KDE Memory leak, but whatever was causing my problem is gone now, for good I hope :)
  19. Well I have reinstalled Mandriva 2007 (just messing around, experimenting with a few things before the new releases) and this problem, what ever it was, is now non existent. This time around everything is working flawlessly, not that Mandriva was ever really troublesome for me, just last time I had a couple of strange, annoying issues.
  20. Thank you for the replies, I think I will give it a whirl and just see, and I basically compile the Kernel anyway to change the System Timer to 1000HZ, so next time I'll flick all the stuff that I don't require and see how it roles. Is that when things are not compiled as modules, or a non-modular kernel? That's what I wasn't sure about, and if it does turn out like that for me, I'll probably not worry about it again, but seeing as I got to do it for the timer thing anyway, I may as well give it a try and see. That's nice and positive :D , and I'll be doing just that before the release of 2007.1 to see how it goes. Thanks all.
  21. Hi, I just done a kernel compile (Mandriva 2007.0), the only thing I changed was the system timer, from 250HZ to 1000HZ for Rosegarden/Midi, everything went well, (not exactly hard I know, I have done it before), anyway, there is a ton of stuff in there which is not needed, example, I know I will never need any support for any ISDN devices, so I could basically just remove that, right? I could also do this for a heap of other stuff that I know I will never need, If I did this, and stripped the kernel of all the unnecessary (to me) stuff, would I actually see any real improvement in performance in things like apps/games etc, not just in things like boot up times and the like.
  22. That does look really nice, will have to take the demo for a spin this weekend. Thanks for the heads ip AI, keep up the good work.
  23. I don't thik so, I use Synaptic for everything except updates, and use the update manager (adept) for updates only (why? haven't got a clue, I just do :) ) All goes well for me. I only go near CLI stuff when needed, other than that I keep as far away from it as I can
  24. I like, it is a cool vid, very nice, I never really checked out many other videos of the 3d desktop stuff, but I like what I seen here. That's a real family afair you got going there AI
