How does VMware Server work w/ Debian when you run multiples guest OSes at once?

what makes you say parallels is way ahead of vmware? in my findings it seems as though most people prefer VMware...

ha, it's one of the only things I have to discuss on here since I'm not good at helping people w/ technical issues.

i used to use vmware as well, and found that linux VMs always ran a bit quicker. I'm currently using parallels...I like the interface a little better, plus, I like going w/ the little guy, instead of the big VMware giant :) i've found that all VMs, windows or linux, seem to run at about 95%.

for me, the ability to work with the 2 systems simultaneously is what's most important, and the ability to share files between the two. I can see what some people might find dual booting good enough, if they need to run everyhting at native speed, but I've found that parallels, vmware runs things at very close to native speed, about 95% I'd say. is that what you've found in your experiences?

Yeah I agree, Linux gives you much more freedom and speed. I used to dual boot windows, but now I just use parallels and have found it to be just about as fast as dual-booting...probably runs at about 95% of native speed. Don't have to use it much, but this is the easiest way to transfer files between the two systems.

yeah, you definitely need a full install disc for creating a VM w/ a virtualization program. in my experience, virtualization solution run very fast on linux, compared to a windows environment at least. but you could probably say that about most things when comparing linux and windows anyway.

have you given parallels workstation a try. it's pretty simple, or at least I found it easier than VMware, plus it's significantly cheaper at $50 a license. http://www.parallels.com

well, I am actually running Mandriva on my MBP using beta 6 of parallels. I was just interested in what kind of experiences other people were having doing this.

Arctic- I totally agree, for the most part. Mac do seem to the the "trendy" computer, not necessarily the more functional for the every day user. They are very good for artists and musicians, but simply using a PC work for most people. I think Macs are more "fun" though, cause not every one has them, so there is some kind of intrigue in that I guess.

the reason someone would choose parallels over vmware is because you can't run vmware on OS X...duh?

i didn't say Parallels was complicated. If you'll read I wrote, "is it as complicated WITH Parallels?" Not "AS Parallels."

What do you mean I'm gonna have to have the "kernel source" and "compiler tools?" Is it as complicated w/ Paralles or XEN? Or the others?

are there any other free programs that can be used to create a VM? or I guess even a free trial would work, right? what's this cedega thing? parallels? other vmware products? xen? these are all names I've been hearing.

oh, so the player cannot create a machine, only run one? that is gonna be useless to me because I have no other way to create one.
