  1. I use mandriva 2007.1 pwp freshly installed. 3D Desktop with compiz enabled. KDE 3.5.6 Kopete sometimes crashes windows decoration daemon, and all windows remains without decoration (title bar, frame etc). Restarting KDE solves the problem for a few restarts. Changeing kde theme or window decoration theme dowsn't help. If the kde crash handler will show me again the error i'll post it. Right know I just closed it's window and don't know when i'll have the next error. Any ideeas where to look for the answer? Did anybody else have this problem? 2. I was useing Firefox when my Opera was down (for almost a hole day) and I had absolutly no problems whit it. I am useing now Opera revision 633 and it is stable, however it is considerably slower than before. I'll try 636 soon. [EDIT]: After a quick download and install of revision 636, Opera is fast again.
  3. It was just a root shell. The problem is the same for any user. ================ SOLVED ================ The latest HotFix work OK. Thank you very much.

  5. I have no Opera 9.20 for update. Also, at opera.com version 9.10 is the latest ... Where did you get 9.20 from ? Thanx. [EDIT]: I found it at opera.com ...
  6. Yesterday I did some upgrades to my Mandriva 2007.0 powerpack box. I do it every saturday. So, the updates were basicly some kde & qt security updates, some xine updates, and a couple of other libraries I can't remember. This morning after I started my pc, Opera refuses to start with "Segmentation Fault" error. Opera is version 9.10 (latest available - installed from rpm, updated constantly). It was working perfect till yesterday evening. I tried whatever fixes I found on the internet, I removed ~/.opera folder, removed all plugins, reinstalled again from rpm (with --force option) .... still not working. Please tell me if you have any ideas about this error and possible solutions. I'm really dependent on Opera. Thanks.
  7. I didn't went to programming for several reasons: 1) I like to code, but I can not do it 8 hours a day, 5 days a week 2) when you get 40 years old, you can not keep up with the younger generation, so, if you manage untill then to get in a good position - not programming, it is OK, otherwise.... 3) there are so many programmers out there, that you realy must be wery good to make a careear So I became a System Administrator and I tend to become an IT Manager ...
  8. I have Ktorrent version 2.1.?? installed on Mandriva 2007.0 PP from official update rpm. It was recently installed. It works great, but queue manager seems not working correctly. More exactly I set "Maximum downloads: 2" in the ktorrent settings for queue manager. I have a list of 10 downloads: 2 downloading and 8 in "queued" state. After download #1 is finished the first "queued" should start. It doesn't. After download #2 is finished I observe 8 queued downloads and none of them started. Opening the queue manager and then closing it results in starting the first 2 downloads from the queue. The rest 6 maintains the queued state - OK. Am I missing an option somewhere, or it is a BUG ? PS: I don't know the exact version of Ktorrent. The ktorrnet -v command returns version 2.1

  10. Current situation is: With mandriva control center I installed all updates again. HAL daemon still not starts. Avahi same. I tryed stop udev and start hal - same result. I tryed stop messagebus and start hal - same result. Udev and messagebus runs OK as daemons, no errors. I tryed a "service haldaemon start --debug", here are the parts of the output which were marked in red: + gprintf FAILED + '[' -x /bin/gettext -a -n FAILED ']' + '[' -n en_US.UTF-8 ']' ++ LC_ALL=en_US.UTF-8 ++ LANGUAGE=en_US.UTF-8:en_US:en ++ gettext -e --domain=initscripts -- FAILED + local TEXT=FAILED + '[' FAILED ']' + shift + printf -- FAILED FAILED+ '[' color = color ']' + echo -en '\033[0;39m' after these lines follosws written in white (grey): + echo -n ']' ]+ echo -ne '\r' + return 1 + '[' -w /var/gdm/.gdmfifo ']' + return 1 + unset LD_PRELOAD + return 1 + RETVAL=1 + echo + '[' 1 -eq 0 ']' + exit 1 + exit 1 [root@localhost ~]# Hope this helps you figure out my problem. But still, please explain me, how to reinstall these packages and everything related. I tryed uninstalling hal from control center, but it told me that other about 50 applications must be removed in order to satisfy dependencies ... this solution is not acceptable.
  11. [sOLUTION: I reinstalled the original version of dbus and libdbus from the install DVD] SO: mandriva 2007.0 powerpack Just made an update from the update sources configured for urpmi. There were lot of updates includeing HAL, avahi, (and dbus I think). After update, hal, dbus, udev starts with no error, but automount deosn't work anymore. Klick on Konqueror media:/hdc (my dvd drive) returns this error: "Feature only available with HAL" After manual mount, like: mount /mnt/cdrom2, I can click and access media:/hdc Unmount, eject options from Konqueror returns same error. I tried to insert my linux dvd and do a "rpmi --install --replacepkgs --force /mnt/cdrom2/.../hal...rpm" This way I replaced (reinstalled) all dbus, hal, avahi packages I could find. Now dbus works, udev works, BUT avahi and hal fails. Basicly I would like you to help me make a clean reinstall of these packages from the original dvd. Just for the rekord: old (original) version of HAL: 0.5.7.1-7mdv2007 new version was (I think): 0.5.7.1-9mdv2007 Please help, I can mount cd's manualy, but others useing my pc .... can't.... :(
  12. OK, I understand that. But this is something new introduced in Opera 9.10??? Whit Opera 9.0, 9.01, 9.02 the menubar had the skins background an colors and as I can recall all later versions worked ok.
  13. I jus updated to Opera 9.10, on Mandriva 2007.0 PowerPack. The design of the skin doesn't appears on the menu bar. Menu bar has a standard grey backbround with black text and it is uneffected by the skin. I tried many skins which worked just fine with opera 9.01, but none of them works correctly with 9.10. Menu bar background remains grey instead of takeing the skin background. I'm interested in how to resolve this issue, or how to change menu bar background color ... at least. Thanks to all.
  14. Hi all, I recently bought an HP K550, before that I had another inkjet HP printer. I observed, that in both cases, printing in Linux used much more ink that in windows. The issue is, DRAFT setting in CUPS (LINUX) uses about the same amount of ink that NORMAL in windows. How can I change the driver setting in CUPS - HPLIP is installed and used too - to reduce ink usage under the standard DRAFT setting? For personal use I do not need that high quality beatiful printouts. Thanks.
  15. I found this handy tool: http://download.savannah.gnu.org/releases/printanalyze/
  16. OK, I have a HP K550 printer, and I use CUPS with HPLIP to print. I am interested in a free tool that counts the pages I printed since last cartrige change. I looked on google, but find nothing. Any ideeas? Thanks.
  17. I added that line to my xorg.conf, restarted X, KDE, but nothing has changed. WinKey still not pops up start menu. Here is my entry from my xorg.conf file: Section "InputDevice" Identifier "Keyboard1" Driver "kbd" Option "XkbModel" "pc105" Option "XkbLayout" "us" # Option "XkbOptions" "compose:rwin" Option "XkbOptions" "altwin:left_meta_win" EndSection I tryed outcomment XkbOption lines, or comment them ... either way it is no change.
  18. Hi all, Somehow I've lost the functionality of my windows key. More exactly, till a few days ago when I pressed the windows key on my keyboard it poped up the kde menu (aka start menu). I don't know what I did, but it doesn't do it any more. I looket in KDE control center at keyboard shortcuts, but I can only set the windows key as "meta key" - to use it in combination whit other keys. Any ideea about how to restore original functionality? Thanks. [moved from Hardware by spinynorman]
  19. I can't give a solution for your problem, but I'm using KTorrent since mandriva 2006 and it performs very well for me...
  20. Device type shouldn't be significant. By the way, maybe you are interested in these commands too: 1) This creates an image of hda7 into a file dd if=/dev/hda7 conv=noerror > /hda7.img 2) Image than can be mounted ... for example testing or backup ... like this: losetup /dev/loop/0 /hda7.img mkdir /recovery mount /dev/loop/0 /recovery 3) Unmount it like this: umount /recovery losetup -d /dev/loop/0
  21. I agree, user ntfs-3g it works perfectly for me.
  22. Thanks for all your replies. After all the datas were recovered from another backup. Anyway, I had no succes recovering the overwritten archive. It seemes impossible. That's it. Thanks again.
  23. I must recover a very important about 1GBytes archive which was overwritten accidentaly. I use mandrake 10.2 and fstype is ReiserFS. If you know some useful tools I can try please help... it is very urgent ... should be done by tomorrow... Thanks a lot.
  24. I have a Mustek 12000 SP Plus scanner on SCSI port whit own SCSI controller. On mandriva 2006 it was found and installed correctly and it worked perfect. Now, I have Mandriva 2007 PowerPack, and MCC sais it can find no scanners. I tryed to switch it off and on again, I tryed to disconnect / reconnect from computer and I tryed manual scanner installation. The result is the same ... no scanner can be found. Also I noticed, that my SCSI controller is found and installed by mandriva as: Domex 536 and it appears twice. I can't remember how it was on Mandriva 2006 but I'm shure it had a longer name ... Please help, any ideeas are welcome.
  25. I tried to run Mandriva One 2007 RC2 directly from CD on my PC: P3 1.1GHz, ATI Radeon 9200, 372MB RAM. 3D desktop can not be enabled. At the last step of the configuration dialog it says that my vga card has NO 3D capabilities... strange ... Any attempt to configure drivers and restart X results in system freeze. I did not tried to install it, becouse I'm waiting for the final version, but I was curiouse to see the "wow" effect of the 3D desktop ... however I didn't  If you managed to run 3D in live mode from this CD on a similar computer please tell me .... thanks.
