  1. I have looked into KDE control center but to no avail. Any ideas? thanks.
  2. Same error over here! I see this line trying to remove a VMwaer dir while booting. BTW Im using 9.2 but upgraded to kernel 2.6-4. Very weird... Why I hate Microsoft
  3. Thats right but IMHO i would rather have either the two HDs connected to the same IDE or the 4gb + CD and the 40 gb by itself. You dont change master to slave via Bios but in the drive itself, looking the HD (or CD or whatever) from behind you will see a jumper which sets the master/slave condition, look into your new HD documentation to find out how to or just try untill you find the one. Good luck!
  4. When I upgraded my 9.2 to kernel 2.6.4 I had the problem that after a reboot it just wouldnt recognize the TV card so I had to use MCC everytime to get it to work. After some research I added the line: bttv to my /etc/modprobe.preload and now it does work straigh away upon reboot. But thats in MDK 9.2. In MDK10CE installed on another partition in the same PC, the TV card starts fine, but i get no sound :-( I can hear KDE sounds and play MP3s no problem, but I get no sound from TV I think I've tried everything, aumix, kmix, alsaconf, changing driver in MCC... but nothing works, so i'll stick with 9.2 for the time being untill they release something that wouldnt be call an RC.
  5. Ooops I was convinced you were mistaken :P I'll try when i get home. thanks for the tip! :D
  6. Which script? Can you please post it here, or post a link to it? I´m sure itll be highly appreciated for many of us. Thanks!
  7. The <TAB> thing is only of use with commands and/or files, in your examples the command is 'urpmi' and whatever goes behind that are the options to that command and that wont autocomplete im afraid. try typing: urp and press <TAB>, you´ll see how all the commands nad/or files starting with 'urp' will come up. On my pc: [root@pc1 operador]# urp urpme urpmi urpmi.removemedia urpmi.update urpmf urpmi.addmedia urpmi_rpm-find-leaves urpmq
  8. Mandrakes got a present for ya. Enjoy it.
  9. I haven't tried 10 installation from HD, but this is what the install.txt says about hd install, as you can see there is no other method than the hd_grub.img image. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3. Other installation methods If for any reason the previous methods do not fit your needs (you want to perform a network install, an install from pcmcia devices or...), you will need to make a boot floppy: * Under Linux (or other modern UNIX systems) type at prompt: $ dd if=xxxxx.img of=/dev/fd0 * Under Windows, follow the method described in point 2, but using xxxxx.img (see below) instead of cdrom.img. * Under DOS, assuming your CD is drive D:, type: D:\> dosutils\rawrite.exe -f images\xxxxx.img -d A where "xxxxx.img" is one of the available boot images: +---------------+----------------------------------------------------+ | cdrom.img | install from CD-ROM | |---------------+----------------------------------------------------| | hd_grub.img | install from hard-disk (from a Linux, Windows, or | | | ReiserFS filesystem) | |---------------+----------------------------------------------------| | network.img | install from ftp/nfs/http | | | NOTE: you will need to insert network_drivers.img | | | in your floppy drive when prompted | |---------------+----------------------------------------------------| | pcmcia.img | install from pcmcia devices | |---------------+----------------------------------------------------| | hdcdrom_usb.img | | | install from hard-disk or cdrom connected to USB | +---------------+----------------------------------------------------+ You may also burn "boot.iso" on a CDROM and boot from it. It supports all installations methods, cdrom, network, and hard-disk. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  10. Thanks for the reply Steve, i´ll try that when i get home. And thanks for this too, Im from Madrid:
  11. It s my pleasure to have helped, same as many others do help me, am just a newbie after all. I have the same prob at work its not a very good way to show your boss linux is best, the pc had NT before and we had to reinstall, he just went mad at me , i guess we wont have linux in the office for a looooong time (by that time i didnt know about the solution). This are the little things i just hate about MDK...
  12. Does anyone know a way to tell the network connection speed ?? I feel my network speed is far too slow for a 100 mbps connection and I would like to make sure is configured ok. Thanks.
  13. MDK 10 CE has not only a 4th CD but a 5th also, the 4th cd is only available to Standard club members and the 5th only to Silver and above members, so to get it you just need to subscribe to the club, it aint that expensive 60 $/€ (for Standard membership) a year and that way you support mandrake and the open source community !!
  14. You can all ignore my post but in the mandrakeclubs forums people have reported that this REALLY WORKED for them. :deal: BTW s/t is wrong with MDK 0 CE and neither 'fdisk /mbr' nor the MDK cd1(used as rescue disk) would fix the MBR properly.
  15. As I have read in mandrakeclubs forums, you need to change in your bios your HD from AUTO to LBA, havent tried it myself so i cant comment. Good luck!
  16. I have a Promise Ultra100 TX2 and had no problem with 9.0, 9.1, 9.2 and now 10. Never needed any special drivers or anything else, always worked fine out of the box.
  17. Hi there all, I have installed the latest cooker release on a test system which doesn't have a monitor and would like to administer it via Webmin, does anybody know how can i get it installed (RPM, urpmi, etc..) ?? Thanks,
  18. There was no need to burn the iso onto cds, just use any free/shareware program that lets you browse ISO images in w98, get the hd.img from the first ISO and use it to create a new floppy, this way did work for me.
  19. Thanks everyone for the anwsers, I havent had the time to try anything else, Ive been busy at work, hope to try it over the weekend, ill keep posting. Yes I do, thanks.
  20. Hi everyone! I´m trying to find a faster way to share files between two MDK systems, they are actually connected via a 10MB hub, which is integrated in an adsl Cisco router, so I can access the net from both. Problem is it takes forever to share files between them(specially large ones) so I want to install antother nic (100MB) in both and have a direct conexion to one another, and there is were I´m all mixed up. My actuall setup is 192.168.0.1 for first PC, 192.168.0.2 for the second and 192.168.0.5. I understand I have to set up the new nics with a different net, say 10.0.0.1 and 10.0.0.2, but how do I tell them to use this address for file sharing and the other address for internet access only ?? Any other special set up to do ?? Any comments and ideas welcome. Thank you for all possible responses.
  21. Thanks! :D I tried what you suggested but to no avail, any other suggestion ?
  22. Hi there all !! I updated the 9.1 default kernel with the new one (linux-2.4.21-0.18 -) via the control center's Install software utility and now I want to recompile it, but when I try a 'make xconfig' I got the following error message: rm -f include/asm ( cd include; ln -sf asm-i386 asm) if [ -f .need_mrproper ]; then rm .need_mrproper; make mrproper; make preconfig; fi make -C scripts kconfig.tk make[1]: Entering directory `/usr/src/linux-2.4.21-0.18mdk/scripts' cat header.tk >> ./kconfig.tk ./tkparse < ../arch/i386/config.in >> kconfig.tk drivers/net/Config.in: 193: unknown command make[1]: *** [kconfig.tk] Error 1 make[1]: Leaving directory `/usr/src/linux-2.4.21-0.18mdk/scripts' make: *** [xconfig] Error 2 I tried 'make menuconfig' and that worked, but when finishing configuring it the bastard closed down by itself so I could even save the options. 'Make config' starts up and asks the first question but since I do not want to have the same experience as I had with 'make menuconfig' after completing all the questions I cancel it. Can anyone help ?? Anyone having this prob too?? Any anwers will be highly appreciated.
