  1. Im using 9.2 and when i plug in my canon sd110 (ixus iis) the icon of FLPHOTO comes up on the desktop, clicking on it opens the program that lets you get the pictures from the camera, is that what you are after??. However 9.2 doesnt mount the camera no where so i cannot use it as an usb harddrive...

    Lmule

I used lmule, but that was ages ago, they changd the name of the project to xmule and then, after some xmule releases some devs made a fork of it and called it amule, which is what i am using at the moment, i think xmule is not being develop any longer, but im not sure though, what im sure about is that lmule latest release is ages old. So if i were you i wouldnt use lmule at all, its quite old and surely got security problems. If you decide to go for amule, there is a post in the forums that will explain how to install. Latest amule stable version is 1.2.7 and beta is 2.0 RC3, 2.0 final being expected shortly...
  3. That sounds like an old bug, execute 'update-menus -v' as root in a terminal and see if that fixes it.
  4. Excellent news! Congratatulations Mandrake hehehe so the 60% price cuts on MS software didnt do the trick,eh billy ??
  5. Thats great, you're welcome mate. You'll find it in '/chrome/icons/default' under the directory where you have installed it, for example my icon is at: /usr/lib/mozilla-firefox-0.9.1/chrome/icons/default/default.xpm
  6. I use KDE on my main machine but whenever i use another computer less powerful i use XFCE, which is way faster and lighter...
  7. Are you sure youre connecting through eth1 ?? Usually the first ethernet card is eth0, if you have two card pluged in but only one connected to the router (eth0) maybe thats why the second one (eth1) fails... But as long as the net conection works...who cares
  8. oops... i wasn that quick in my last response :P Anyways to get hold of your isps dns server addresses you can have a look at their web page, it is usually there...
  9. Thats right, both dns entries should be in /etc/resolv.conf as 'nameserver ip.address' -without quotes- for it to work.
  10. Try this post at the Frequently Asked Questions & How-to's forum.
  11. if I remember correctly kernel 2.6 is too large to fit onto a floppy which is why this problem exists. EDIT: which big john already said :-| To my understanding (english not being my mother tonge) what he is after is to have lilo onto a floppy MBR, not a linux kernel not a boot floppy, please correct me if im wrong. And I'm still using 9.2 for the time being although i have 10.0 OE installed too, and during install of 10 i told the installer to put the bootloader on the floppy disk so right now if a put the floppy disk in the drive i get to the bootloader -lilo- that 10 OE installed there, and if i remove the disk the pc boots into the bootloader -lilo here as well- that 9.2 installed (therefore 10.0 installation didnt replace my old bootloader and yes IT IS posible to do).
  12. ***** I EDIT THE POST SINCE THE IMAGES COULDN'T BE SEEN, TO SEE IMAGE 1 GO TO THE BOTTON OF THIS POST AND IMAGE 2 AND 3 ON MY TWO OTHER REPLIES ****** Hi there! First things first, this is where the MDK installer asks you where to install the bootloader (if you choose floppy there, it wont touch your actual HD mbr): But if you passed this chance there is still hope... read on SEE IMAGE 1 Im not at home right now, and definitely not using linux at the moment (yeah, you guessed it, im at work ) but ill try to guide you anyway and then if you cant get it working, i can post more detailed instructions when i get home. - Go to the Mandrake Control Center (MCC) and choose the boot option: SEE IMAGE 2 - From the options you get, choose the 'configure boot loader' one (or s/t similar), and this screen should appear: SEE IMAGE 3 See where it says 'Boot device:'? you have to change that from '/dev/hda' (your HD) to (Im not sure what the option you need is called, im just guessing here:) '/dev/floppy', 'floppy', '/mnt/floppy' or something with the floppy word on it*****UPDATED: ITS /dev/fd0 WHAT YOU NEED ********, in order to install the bootloader into a floppy disk (you probably need to have a disk inserted in your floppy drive, and an empty one i guess... though i don't know for sure). Now you can reboot with MDK CD1 and use it as a rescue disk to restore your old MBR (windoze one, i suppose). So once you've done that you'll need, from now on, to put the disk in the drive -and set your bios to 'booting from floppy'- to boot into MDK 10, and the disk out of the drive whenever you feel -if ever- like booting into whatever O.S. you had prior to installing MDK. As i said earlier, post if you encounter any problems.
  13. heehee i had the same thought ...
  14. That sounds quite weird to me, might be a faulty mozilla installation (?), why dont you try to uninstall it, and then install it again (you can do this via software management at the Mandrake Control Center).
  15. Just to give you more a detailed how-to: - Open a terminal and type 'su' (in order to become root), then type in your root password. - Now give this command: "kwrite /etc/modprobe.preload" and the text editor will open the file for you. - Add a new line just with "bttv" on it. - Close the text editor an choose to save the file. - Restart your computer and open any tv program (XawTV, TvTime, etc...) to see if the changes did work. Its quite easy but post if you get stuck.
  16. Yeah, the same happened to me too. What i did to make it work was to add a new line with "bttv" on it in /etc/modprobe.preload. Try it and see if it works for you too.
  17. Hi there! What you could do as well is install lilo on a floppy, this way if the lilo.conf editing doesnt work for any reason, you can always login to MDK 10 via the floppy... just an idea though. good luck!
  18. The MDK Powerpack 10.0 costs 79.9 €, i presume the same in us dollars, you might be talking about the "Powerpack +" (PP Plus) which is 199 € But you can find it out for yourself at the Mandrake Store. BTW oswcab be welcome to the forum!
  19. Virus and defragmentation?? They are inherent windows components :-P, yeah you get both with windo$ XP too. When i first started with linux i feel the same as you, but now (after a year of use) i feel rather confident with it and don't miss window$ at all, IMHO the worst thing is that you are so used to the window$ way of doing things that it is difficult to think different, but time will come and all that will change and youll get to love linux just as i did, good luck and well be here to help you as much as we can, im still a newbie too but the people in this forums are really great help. Free your mind Ooops by the way, i forgot to mention that you better install all the updates for MDK 10 CE since there were quite a few, other than that id recommend you to get MDK offical edition wich is a more madure distro, les buggy and all...
  20. I had the same problem, fixed it by editing (as root, of course) /etc/modprobe.preload and adding 'bttv' on an empty line. Save the file and next time you restart tvtime will start fine. Are you sure the disk itself is not write-protected ??
  21. I usually go to 'easy urpmi' (google for its url), use it to find the ftp address and the updates dir and then use an ftp client to download the updates I want to a local dir. Then i create a hdlist.cz with genhdlist, and i add it as an urpmi source. What I think it is not possible is to add it as an 'update source' so you can do an 'urpmi --auto-select', but im not sure about this, any ideas? **** UPDATE ****** I edit the post to answer to myself: It is possible to add your local dir as an 'update source' despiste drakconf asking for a URL, all you have to do is put an 'file:/' before the local address, for example if the files are in /home/user/UPDATES you do: 'file://home/user/UPDATES' and itll add it no problem. Tthen in a console you can do an 'urpmi --auto-select' or whatever you like just as if it was an online updates repository.
  22. Yeah check that its no full and its recommended that you defrag the partition you are about to resize, or you might lose data. Got this from MDK 9.2 online Documentation (10s doesnt seem to be up yet): Good luck!
