  1. Hello everyone. After installing mandriva powerpack 2007 from 2006 everything seemed to work fine. Then I got onto a mandriva chat channel while using xchat and one of the guys told me I should update all my packages, so I went to easyurmpi website and I clicked all the boxes and pasted that into my console, well it seemed to uninstall my graphics card drivers that were working fine before from doing a upgrade using 2007 powerpack. I'm running a 6800 Gt nvidia geforce 256meg graphics card. The default files mandriva 2007 installs for the graphics card (generic graphics card drivers) work but the upgraded ones didn't it seems. Now when I start up linux it will boot everything up fine until its time to go to the login screen. From there the screen gets scrambled and i try alt + alt + blackspace but no fix. I then tried to log in with failsail isntead of a GUI, and when i typed in startx and it says IO excpetion (0.0) and talks about the nividia drivers, and some GLX I think it said. Any ideas how I can get this fixed? I am a total n00b with linux i just had alot of stuff on my linux harddrive, and i don't want to loose it all by doing a clean install. Thanks!
  2. Hello everyone. I'm sick of using windows again and I would like to get back to using Linux. But as soon as I moved into my new apartment i'm unable to connect to the internet. I am very noobish to Linux and now i'm rusty since I havn't had time to figure it out. I remember I had to screw around with my network config files awhile ago to get it working with my old ISP so that network file is probably filled with my old infomration thats why its not working I bet. I'm not connected to a LAN or anything, i'm directly connecting to the internet through a cable modem. What would I need to do to connect to the internet? What files do you need to see on my system to better help me? Thank you. PS: i'm running Mandriva power pack 2006
  3. thanks, thats what i shall do! Anyone konw if KDE 3.5 is stable yet? I was wanting to upgrade but i'm afraid it will f up my system
  4. Hello everyone. I want to use Kopete to talk on ICQ and AIM, gAim for some reason will only let me talk to people on AIM but not icq and Kopete has some cool features gAim doesn't. I'm current using version 0.10.3 on KDE 3.4.2. This came preinstalled on mandriva 2006 powerpack. Thanks! here is the error i keep getting: (no debugging symbols found) Using host libthread_db library "/lib/tls/libthread_db.so.1". 5. Thanks for the help! I did what you said, when i went into System/Configuration/Packaging/MandrivaUpdates, i could choose, bug fixes, secuirty, and normal updates, i selected them both, then i selected all packages, and it said it was around 800 megs, should I download and install all the updates?

  7. Hello everyone! Well i went to use Easy_urmpi, I reinstalled mandriva so I had to run this again. ANyways, last time I did it, it took awhile. This time around I forgot it was even still downlaoding stuff and I reb00ted linux. So I went to go copy and paste the commands to update urmpi again and i get the following: [root@mybox coffee]# urpmi.addmedia main ftp://ftp.clinet.fi/pub/mirrors/Mandrake-linux/official/2006.0/i586/media/main with media_info/hdlist.cz unable to access hdlist file of "updates", medium ignored medium "main" already exists [root@mybox coffee]# urpmi.addmedia jpackage ftp://ftp.caliu.info/pub/distribucions/mandrake/official/2006.0/i586/media/jpackage with media_info/hdlist.cz unable to access hdlist file of "updates", medium ignored medium "jpackage" already exists [root@mybox coffee]# urpmi.addmedia plf-free ftp://ftp.planetmirror.com/pub/plf/mandrake/free/2006.0 with hdlist.cz unable to access hdlist file of "updates", medium ignored medium "plf-free" already exists [root@mybox coffee]# urpmi.addmedia plf-nonfree ftp://ftp.planetmirror.com/pub/plf/mandrake/non-free/2006.0 with hdlist.cz unable to access hdlist file of "updates", medium ignored medium "plf-nonfree" already exists [root@mybox coffee]# urpmi.addmedia --update updates ftp://ftp.caliu.info/pub/distribucions/mandrake/official/updates/2006.0/main_updates/ with media_info/hdlist.cz unable to access hdlist file of "updates", medium ignored medium "updates" already exists [root@mybox coffee]# [root@mybox coffee]# urpmi.addmedia main ftp://ftp.clinet.fi/pub/mirrors/Mandrake-linux/official/2006.0/i586/media/main with media_info/hdlist.cz unable to access hdlist file of "updates", medium ignored medium "main" already exists [root@mybox coffee]# urpmi.addmedia contrib ftp://ftp.caliu.info/pub/distribucions/mandrake/official/2006.0/i586/media/contrib with media_info/hdlist.cz unable to access hdlist file of "updates", medium ignored medium "contrib" already exists [root@mybox coffee]# urpmi.addmedia jpackage ftp://ftp.caliu.info/pub/distribucions/mandrake/official/2006.0/i586/media/jpackage with media_info/hdlist.cz unable to access hdlist file of "updates", medium ignored medium "jpackage" already exists [root@mybox coffee]# urpmi.addmedia plf-free ftp://ftp.planetmirror.com/pub/plf/mandrake/free/2006.0 with hdlist.cz unable to access hdlist file of "updates", medium ignored medium "plf-free" already exists [root@mybox coffee]# urpmi.addmedia plf-nonfree ftp://ftp.planetmirror.com/pub/plf/mandrake/non-free/2006.0 with hdlist.cz unable to access hdlist file of "updates", medium ignored medium "plf-nonfree" already exists [root@mybox coffee]# urpmi.addmedia --update updates ftp://ftp.caliu.info/pub/distribucions/mandrake/official/updates/2006.0/main_updates/ with media_info/hdlist.cz unable to access hdlist file of "updates", medium ignored medium "updates" already exists [root@mybox coffee]# Does this mean it updated everything? or is it saying this because it thinks it updated because I shut down. 8. hah yeah until they give me problems i'll just let them float around there for awhile. I actually found out waht they were I think, I use ipV6, not v4, so they arn't really eth devices, they are just tunneling adapters! I could be wrong but kind of makes sense. Thanks again!
  9. Hello everyone! I'm running mandriva 2006 power pack, I have a flat screen, MultiSync LCD 1770GX, 17" monitor. I set the resolution to 1280x1024, the icons, and toolbar look great, problem is, when I open up a webpage or kmix, the windows are huge, like kmixer won't even show on the screen only like 2/3 of it will show. Here is a screen shot of what i'm talking about also when I open up a webpage. Any ideas on how I can fix this? I also have a GeFOrce 6800 GT, right now i'm using the generic drivers supplied with mandriva which work great so far!
  10. Hey guys, thanks it finally worked after another reB00t! but it sounds like hell, can someone post a screenshot of what their kmix looks like? mine is all jacked up to the highest on everything that might be why but i don't see any presets to change it. Or does anyone kknow of a website that says what a good balance is? Thanks again guys!
  11. Hm.... I did what you said, and i got: [root@mybox coffee]# service alsa start ALSA driver (version 1.0.9b) is already running. [root@mybox coffee]# alsaconf ANd its saying alsaconf isn't a command any idea why? Now i'm getting the following, still no sound: [root@mybox coffee]# service alsa start ALSA driver (version 1.0.9b) is already running. 12. Hello everyone, i have a Soundblaster audigy, u can see what type in mysignature. I am running Mandriva 2006 and the sound isn't working at all, i had this problem before awhie ago when i tried to first install mandriva 2006 powerpack but i just reb00ted and it fixed the problem automatically. I did a clean install again to fix my internet connection, so sound again doesn't work. This time the reb00ting isn't fixing it! Under Sound Configuration it says: HEre u can select an alternative driver (either OSS or ALSA) for your sound card (Creative Labs|EMU10K2 Audigy Audio Process). Your card currently uses the ALSA "snd-emu10k1" driver (default driver for your sound card is "snd-emu10k1" It also shows a OSS driver called , Audigy, and another one called emu10k1, i tried both of them, both didn't work either! Linux reads it as: [root@mybox etc]# lspcidrake -v|fgrep AUDIO snd-emu10k1 : Creative Labs|EMU10K2 Audigy Audio Processor [MULTIMEDIA_AUDIO] (vendor:1102 device:0004 subv:1102 subd:2002) [root@mybox etc]# grep sound-slot /etc/modules.conf This is suppose to tell me if my sound is muted or not: [root@mybox etc]# aumix -q aumix: error opening mixer Here is supppose to show me if my services can be run on int3? I don't have a wireless anything in my computer, just a regualr modem, and an ethernet card. How do I know if it accidently activated a lo(local Looopback) instead of eth0? And if it did, how do I fix it? SOrry i'm pretty new to linux! When you say network configure files, do you know where they are located the ones u want me to show you? Again this is a clean install I don't know how somthing could already be messed up with me not touching any system settings/files. Its my lucky day heh :)
  15. Hello everyone, a very odd thing has happened. Well orginally when i installed mandriva 2006 powerpack edition, the first boot up, no sound, and no internet connection. I reb00ted and it worked fine. Later I tried to change the machine name, totally messed up, and ended up making the internet stop working. So I just did a clean install, starting over from scratch. I'm having the same problems! I didn't change anything, but still no sound, and no internet. When I could connect to the internet, my machine name wasn't "localhost" it was like "x1-20-392-blah". But this time when I installed it just named it localhost. I'm not worried about the sound right now, i just need to be able to connect to the internet with mandriva 2006 Power Pack. Here is my iconfig result, and a few other commands to show you what my machine is doing. I am a n00b! [root@localhost coffee]# ifconfig eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:50:8D:D1:C1:97 inet addr:12.183.103.29 Bcast:255.255.255.255 Mask:255.255.254.0 inet6 addr: fe80::250:8dff:fed1:c197/64 Scope:Link UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1 RX packets:389 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0 TX packets:1494 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0 collisions:0 txqueuelen:1000 RX bytes:23719 (23.1 KiB) TX bytes:90684 (88.5 KiB) Interrupt:16 Base address:0x2000 eth1 Link encap:UNSPEC HWaddr 00-50-8D-00-00-D0-C1-97-00-00-00-00-00-00-00-00 UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1 RX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0 TX packets:0 errors:6 dropped:6 overruns:0 carrier:0 collisions:0 txqueuelen:1000 RX bytes:0 (0.0 b) TX bytes:0 (0.0 b) eth2 Link encap:UNSPEC HWaddr 00-02-3C-01-51-11-E9-25-00-00-00-00-00-00-00-00 UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1 RX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0 TX packets:0 errors:6 dropped:6 overruns:0 carrier:0 collisions:0 txqueuelen:1000 RX bytes:0 (0.0 b) TX bytes:0 (0.0 b) lo Link encap:Local Loopback inet addr:127.0.0.1 Mask:255.0.0.0 inet6 addr: ::1/128 Scope:Host UP LOOPBACK RUNNING MTU:16436 Metric:1 RX packets:713 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0 TX packets:713 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0 collisions:0 txqueuelen:0 RX bytes:64605 (63.0 KiB) TX bytes:64605 (63.0 KiB) [root@localhost coffee]# ping www.google.com ping: unknown host www.google.com [root@localhost coffee]# cat /etc/resolv.conf nameserver 65.83.241.181 nameserver 67.32.118.46 [root@localhost home]# slocate resolv.conf /etc/resolv.conf /usr/share/man/man5/resolv.conf.5.bz2 [root@localhost home]# slocate resolv.conf.bak [root@localhost home]# ping 66.249.87.104 connect: Network is unreachable [root@localhost home]# [root@localhost etc]# cat hosts 127.0.0.1 localhost My ethernet card is located at eth0, and is a Realtek RTL8169/8110 Family Gigabit and i'm connecting to the internet through a cable modem. When my internet was working on mandriva it was set as a LAN connection. Even though this is the only computer hooked up into the internet and is not networked to any other machine. ANy help would be great! I'm running KDE 3.4, Mandriva 2006 PowerPack. This may help or hinder the problem, but some other guy from another forum told me the following: But this can't be the case now, because I've totally did a clean install, and I didn't mess with my host name.
