    LILO troubles

I just wanted to try a different distro of linux so I installed on a unused partition. Anyway, the install put it´s boot loader on the wrong harddisk I guess, so I tried ¨probing¨ for the new partition. Now I´ve lost my XP and still don´t have the new distro. How can I change Lilo so I can boot the 3 different systems? I tried putting in the mandriva cd but then I get an error....
  5. But where do I change anything?
  6. Because this should've done exactly what ian suggested. Yeah but this didn´t change the mcc, the strage thing is theme changer gave dozens of themes whereas from the gnome control center I could only change from about 10.
  7. Which application can I use to open .pps files?
  8. I´d like to change the k menu icon and the login screen background but can´t find the option (or rather the option under login manager doesn´t seem to work)
  9. Okay, changing the gnome theme from the gnome control center also changes the the theme of mcc, so I guess that´s the option, thanks.
  10. I´m looking for the option to turn off these alternating lines of blue or at least change the colour, I´ve been going through ¨Look and Feel¨ but I can´t seem to find the option. [moved from Software by spinynorman]
  11. I downloaded the themes package for mcc (and the other files you said too) but still a boring grey progress bar, I have no idea how to switch themes for the mcc...

  13. I have a minor graphical issue, not even big enough to be called a problem, with the MCC but I´d still like to have it solved. Yesterday I wanted to make some space and tried to uninstall GNOME, which apperently also installed the MCC :o . Anyway I reinstalled the MCC, but there´s just one tiny thing left: Before the progress bar looked nice and bold with fading gray and blue, now it´s only gray. How do I make it look like before again? I´m guessing I need some lib somewhere?
  14. Looking further at the instructions I see you need to download and install about 60 different packages, that´s a lot of work and it needs to be done in the correct sequence, which makes thing very error prone. And I don´t know how to write scripts yet. However I did rpm for SuSE, it won´t install but I´m pretty sure some here could take a look at them and fix the problem.... The RPM´s can be found here: http://en.opensuse.org/Xgl
  15. Might have to waight till somebody makes an rpm.
  16. This brought me a bit further but still I got some problems: form the following bit: mkdir xorg cd xorg cvs -d :pserver:anoncvs@cvs.freedesktop.org:/cvs/xorg co util/macros cd util/macros ./autogen.sh --prefix=/opt/fdo make make install cd /opt/cvs/xorg I get the following error: [root@localhost macros]# make make: Nothing to be done for `all'.
  17. I get the following: [root@localhost glitz]# which aclocal which: no aclocal in (/sbin:/usr/sbin:/bin:/usr/bin:/usr/X11R6/bin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/local/sbin) [root@localhost glitz]# urpmf /usr/bin/aclocal automake1.7:/usr/bin/aclocal-1.7 automake1.8:/usr/bin/aclocal-1.8 automake1.8:/usr/bin/aclocal-1.9 automake1.4:/usr/bin/aclocal-1.4 automake1.6:/usr/bin/aclocal-1.6
  18. When I do the command: ./autogen.sh --prefix=/opt/fdo ./autogen.sh: line 17: aclocal: command not found, is the error I get.
  19. I've found instructions on how to set up Xgl and Compiz, which I guess most of you must have heard of by now, cause it's one of the coolest things to hit Linux since, ehm... graphical desktops. The instructions can be found here. I really would like to get it up and running, unfortunately, being a newbie, the instructions are a bit unclear to me but I'm sure there's some people who do understand and with the guide can help me set it up too :) The part I don't understand is: HOWTO XGL : create /usr/share/aclocal/dirlist file add the following line /opt/fdo/share/aclocal export PKG_CONFIG_PATH="/opt/fdo/lib/pkgconfig:$PKG_CONFIG_PATH" I've made 2 text files in /usr/share/aclocal/ (one dirlist, one dirlist file) and wrote in it /opt/fdo/share/aclocal But still I get an error when trying autogen.sh, what am I doing wrong?
  20. I found this instruction for mandriva, though it is a bit unclear http://archives.mandrivalinux.com/cooker/2...02/msg01446.php What does this mean?: HOWTO XGL : create /usr/share/aclocal/dirlist file add the following line /opt/fdo/share/aclocal export PKG_CONFIG_PATH="/opt/fdo/lib/pkgconfig:$PKG_CONFIG_PATH" Am I supposed to create a file named dirlist or dirlist file and which file type?
  21. Maybe something for next Sunday, I did hear however Ubuntu had Xgl and Compiz available, but I can´t find it and I don´t know if they have rpm´s.
  22. CVS :D How do you download all the files?
  23. Urpmi is a great little program for downloading and installing programs (it´s almost addictive) but it doesn´t work for Azureus because Azureus is not available from the standard scources, where urpmi downloads from. Anyway .tab.bz2 and .tar.gz are like .zip or .rar files in Windows, extract the folder Azureus from Azureus_2.4.0.0_linux.tar.bz2 to any folder, run it from there the way I described before. There´s just one thing, you need Java (jre-1.5). I don´t believe the version required for Azureus is in urpmi yet, just download from their site, if you don´t have JRE yet (you only need java runtime enviroment (JRE), not the dev. package).
  24. The file name is azureus and the file type is Shell Script (btw file names appear to be case sensitive in Linux, I´m new to this stuff to, just installed last week) edit: why don´t you get 2.4.0.0?
