    Uninstalling programs

yeah, but to keep all the source packages lying around, no way to get that info into the urpmi database? Usually I delete them after uninstalling?
  2. Is there an easy way to uninstall programs, installed from source with make install? I like to keep my system clean but also try some newer programs for which no rpm's are available?
  3. Yeah, but for an install CD I think you need to be a member not for the cooker repos....
  4. Good letter, I hope Mandriva takes heart. I´m trying Ubuntu Dapper now but Mandriva still wins in many areas. Most of these points/annoyences are actually quite easy to fix really. One thing I don´t get is why you have to be a member of the club to play with the cooker, wouldn´t you want as many people as possible to test a release?
  5. Hi, I just installed the vanilla 2.6.16 kernel available from the cooker reps but streaming audio/video playback is rather jerky. This can be improved by renicing kaffeine and mplayer but this needs to be done after every reboot, is there a way to change their niceness permantly?

    Default icons for KDE

There´s no other way to do it because some icons are not changeable (like k-menu) and it´s a lot of work doing it for each icon change?
  7. KDE 3.51 with Keramik theme and Clear Crystal icons
  8. Is there a file somewhere where you can choose the default icons? Right when you change an icon theme some icons do not change because it looks for specifiek Mandriva icons and all the names have to be manually editted for each icon and theme.... (ie change kmenu.png -> menuk-mdk.png) Moved to Software by phunni
  9. Damn, now the mute doesn't work anymore, it still shows a box with mute on /off but doesn't do anything with the volume. I tried assigning the global shortcut but it doesn't work...
  10. Thanks binding a new global shortcut in Kmix did the trick :)
  11. I have a Logitech Desktop Cordless Pro keyboard, it has some nice extra features like multimedia keys, some work (like the mute button) under Mandriva but the one I use most, the volume control doesn't. I just found out it does work under Ubuntu. Is there anyway to get it working under Mandriva too?
  12. From boot untill about the appearance of the KDE splash screen and from shut off sequence till shut down I have my "desktop" on the TV but when the destop loads I just get a garbled image (ie. my hardware and connections are in working order). Probably I need to disable video overlay. How do I do this with the nvidia binary driver? Or else hoe do I play videos on my tv with linux???
  13. I got everything working, the only thing missing is the graphical splash screen on start up for Ubuntu, but I guess I can live without this :)
  14. K Menu->System->Configuration->Hardware->nVidia Settings
  15. You'll see a screen with the nVidia logo when starting up just for less then a second. Reboot and restart, linux if you see the logo you're there :)
  16. Okay, when restoring the ghost image of my windows installation I didn't set it to bootable because I thought, I would boot with GRUB, after fixing this, the above entry would boot Windows. I still have some little issues with GRUB and the MCC though. I also have an installation of Ubuntu but whenever I use the MCC, these entries are removed from /boot/grub/menu.lst , it only keeps the mandriva entries :s
  17. It was just one of the errors I got, I tried many entries but none worked..... I tried something like title windows root (hd1,4) map (0x81) (0x80) map (0x80) (0x81) makeactive chainloader +1 and title windows root (hd1,4) makeactive chainloader +1
  18. Okay when I selected the bootdevice from the boot menu I was able to bot up mandriva and reinstalling from mcc got me back grub (from a different bootdevice (hda) now). Still windows (XP pro) is not booting. It resides on sda5 on a ntfs partition but I get an error unrecognized filetype*...
  19. Today, I decided to restore a ghost image of my windows installation (one made beofre I ever installed linux). But now GRUB fails in stage 1.5 with error code 15. I have 2 harddisks, one sata and one ide, the sata one is the only possible bootdevice. My windows partition is on the sata drive (which has 2 partitions) and my linux on my ide (which has 3 partitions, mandriva is on hda3, ubuntu on hda2). I tried reinstalling the bootloader using the rescue mode on the mandriva 2006 cd-rom but I still get the same error message.... [moved from Software by spinynorman]
  20. My multimedia apps, look hard coded for 3 different codec paths. I read here something about symlinking directories??? to other directories. Right now I have all the codecs duplicated, but how do I symlink them to one directory?????
  21. Okay, keramik decided to mysteriously pop up but I still don't know the correct file association for .rpm's
  22. Thanks, but I'll wait till some other people try it, don't want to break my install, again.... :P still have a few issues lying around I want fixed (see: https://mandrivausers.org/index.php?showtopic=31419 )
  23. After playing for a while with Mandriva, my partion was almost completely full (8++GB) and I just had a few programs installed and deinstalling packages seemed to break lots of things. I did a reinstall and added the cooker to my sources and reinstalled KDE 3.5.1 Anyway I reinstalled but there are a few things missing/broken: -The Keramik widget style (not theme!) -.rpm's don't have a file association, what is the correct association for rpm's?
  24. Yup, not that I even think their OS is crap per se. Now suppose you really think XP is crap but MS' intention was to bring out an OS which would make people happier about themselves, the world and make everybode love eachother  would that make you change your opinion of XP?
