No, you do need to install gtk-qt-engine first then an option to change gtk themes will appear in kcontrol. Why don't you want to install gtk-qt, it's very small?

you could have done it even easier by just configuring the graphical server in the control center ;) I believe that in spring sources are even set up automatically (not 100% though)

This is not quite correct, files moved to trash in the home directory should end up in /home/<user-name>/.local/share/Trash whereas files deleted from other media should end up in <mount point>/.Trash-<user-name> I have never used GNOME in MDV but the below bug report is how it works in Ubuntu (GNOME) and according to MDV devs should in MDV KDE aswell https://qa.mandriva.com/show_bug.cgi?id=38959

I tried the last stable (10.3?) but quickly went back to mandriva, suse's desktop looks really slick but their tools all take ages to load, the packagemanager is slow as hell and no support for ndiswrapper and I do really like the new mdv spring desktop changing colours....

there other modules were already loaded but modprobing fan did not seem te reduce noise. btw how can I set cpufreq governernor to conservative (w/o reverting to rc.local)? after everyboot it reverts to ondemand

no i can modprobe ithowever what I want to add that once in a while the fan does become quite after about 10 mins of booting into mdv but it will usually turn on again, most of the time the laptop does scale down to 800MHz

suspending to disk takes a while, resuming is a bit faster than a regular boot (to kdm) suspending and resuming to ram is okay

suspend-to-ram and disk work out of the box in 2008.1 spring, no fiddling required :)

I didnt even use the 3d stuff, fglx was installed but I used the xorg driver and even then the laptop hangs waking up...

nothing which seems relevant in those logs and i am using the laptop kernel :(
