  1. I meant the wacom device not working ;)
  2. maybe a stupid question but how do you know it's a kernel issue and not some other issue like maybe xorg?
  3. which graphics card do you use? useally setting up the repositories and then running XFdrake is enough to set things up ,for nvidia at least but for other cards your mileage may vary... show your /etc/X11/xorg.conf :
  4. try with -e, ie. -e --allmatches else these are my installed fonts: # rpm -qa | grep x11-font x11-font-alias-1.0.1-12mdv2008.1 x11-font-adobe-utopia-75dpi-1.0.1-5mdv2008.1 x11-font-misc-misc-1.0.0-7mdv2008.1 x11-font-bh-75dpi-1.0.0-5mdv2008.1 x11-font-cursor-misc-1.0.0-5mdv2008.1 x11-font-adobe-75dpi-1.0.0-5mdv2008.1 x11-font-bh-lucidatypewriter-75dpi-1.0.0-5mdv2008.1 x11-font-bitstream-75dpi-1.0.0-5mdv2008.1 uninstall them all and reinstall them
  5. I posted too fast nevermind ps: do not forget the --no-deps flag !!! else almost your entire desktop will be uninstalled too!
  6. that actually deletes the fonts, not uninstalls them try rpm --all-matches --nodeps x11-font && rpm -e task-x11 && urpmi task-x11
  7. did you actually delete the fonts and not uninstall them with a package manager?

    GTK ipod management

I tried dragging and dropping files from nautilus, to the ipod and to the ipod window, it doesn't work
  10. pop it in and see what happens, iirc the dvd could already be set up as a media source. else see here to set up the dvd: http://wiki.mandriva.com/en/Tools/urpmi#urpmi.addmedia
  11. try urpmi task-X11 you might need to run XFdrake (mind the capitals) after that too
  12. I really don't get any of the ipod management programs, I have tried Exaile, Banshee, ipo, gtkpod, songbird and Rythmbox but it doesn't seem to be possible to just simply drag and drop some files on to the ipod, like Amarok (the only ipod management program I actually do get), I can only delete songs. Is there a gtk program which can do that, without needing to set up a library or anything? Exaile looks like it can but the files are never copied to the ipod... Amarok takes ages to load under gnome

    KDE4

Well I have been trying 4.1beta2 on hardy but I still don't think I will switch, I can forgive the very frequent crahes but for me still many important features are missing: -file size view in konqueror still seems to be gone -no thumbnail view in the file selector -no obvious way to move things around in the panel -search bar in konqueror, how to hell are you supposed to go to a website even, remember and type an url? -no way to put files on the desktop further more it is slow.....very slow, even with compositing turned off, there are many graphical glitches when drawing/moving windows and menus, moving plasmoids around is very frustrating as it is very hard to grab them(the mouse position the plasmoid is aware off seems to be lagging to the actual screen position) and all these things were also present in the stable release and btw what with these stupid controls and frame on icons and widgets? just have a right -> click properties well at least the panel can be resized and themed easily now.....

    Memory Usage

  15. arghhhh, I can´ t believe it they took out thumbnails from KDE4 file selector too (kde 4.1 beta2)
  16. Ubuntu apperantly..... disabling the bitmap fonts (= core x fonts ? ) worked.... thanks
  17. actually the fonts look bad in ff2 and epiphany too, only opera looks right using gnome and with subpixel smoothing and full hinting and the plf version of freetype installed...
  18. this one looks bad: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/HowToGetHelp but oddly enough this one doesn't: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ many webpages look like the first one though, see the screenshot below
  19. fonts on many pages are not anti-aliased and look very bad, they look like what in opera is called core x fonts, which I always disable to get nice fonts. In firefox there is an option to not allow webpages to choose their own fonts which fixes the bad looking fonts but also affects all other pages which then start using the font specified.... is there an option to turn off core x fonts somewhere or to always anti-alias fonts? 20. My main gripe is that it doesn't show previews and there are no columns for file size and file type, it makes it very hard to find specific files in directories which have a lot of files.... I accidentally found out how to unhide hidden files but I need to click in a very specific place (exactly between the scroll bar and "modified")
  21. no easier way, no hidden setting anywhere?
  22. Selecting files with the GTK+ file selector is very slow and difficult because it seems to be missing many essential features, like adding extra columns with size and file type, no file preview mode, no button to show/hide hidden files etc. etc. Is there a way to add these feature to the file selector? I useally end up just using nautilus to open a file :( [moved from Software by spinynorman]
  23. it must be a new feature then because upgrading from a fresh 2008.0 free install to cooker (a week or so before 2008.1 release, so effectively it was 2008.1), my upgrade failed because of the following bug: https://qa.mandriva.com/show_bug.cgi?id=39408 urpmi did not want to continue with the rest of the upgrade.... the upgrade was quite easy to continue (by removing the 2 conflicting packages) but still the upgrade wouldn't continue otherwise....
