ok..the motherboard doesn't even fit in the case and it has different memory slots than my previous memory...its going back anyways...Im gonna call dell because it seems like only theirs would really fit and have everything i need in there. Idk though. Oh and the Intel P4 2.8 ghz didn't fit in there either. What a mess. ah well ill just give dell a call.

Ok. i just ordered a motherboard that looks similiar to the one i have. The reviews said it had an excellent BIOS and was great(It got 4 eggs on NewEgg.com)....Almost every reviewer said that it worked perfectly even when the overclocked their system. It was an Asus and it had 2 USB and 2 firewire so i thought that would be enough(considering i have 2 more at the front of the computer)... here it is. well thats not too bad of price. I dunno if i dont really want to put more money into my extra machine..but i probably will.. i might, however, have a motherboard from another computer i might put in. Thatd probably work.

i was using lILO and i doubt there is any bootloader(it is hard to get specs for those kinds of things it seems though)...i dunno. Doesn't dell have 24 hour service...because i remember a commercial where this guy was in bed and at 5 in the morning he called up dell and the dell guys is like "yes 24-7=365(or something like that)...maybe ill call them later. Will they fix it? because my sisters computer needed a motherboard once(it was the 600 dollar dell) and the guy came out and installed it. Maybe theyll do that for this one(if a motherboard is needed-or similiar part)...i hope it is cuse thats something i can go and buy a Frys (or other electronics stores).

Nothing at all. The only changes(at all) made to this machine was the dualboot OSs. ok i got a new screen now when i load it up.. it says Phoenix ROM BIOS PLUS version 1.10 A01 Copyright 1985-1988 Phoenix Technologies LTD. Copyright .>>....dell......... allright reserved..... Dell SYstem Dimension 8200 then(for the important part) it says Alert! Previous attempts at booting this system have failed at checkpoint. For help in resolvi9ng this problem, please note this checkpoint and contact Dell Technical Support. Crap.(my words) what to do..what to do. Will dell even listen if i tell them ive dualbooted it with Mandriva/Windows XP?/??

like when the BIOS screen is loading., i freezes halfway through.

Ok...i tried installing wine and immediatly when i began the download, Mandriva 2006 Froze..{of course} ... ok then it didn't even load the LILO bootloader. I turned it off to try again. it has the Dell(then the loading bar under it) then it has bios revision ______ ok...it boots up so slow and doesn't even get past midway point(on the BIOS loading). Whats the deal??? this is crazy. How can i get my computer back up and running.. any help is appreciated.

hey i got it [my mandriva] working...i put the complete extracted gzip file into the directory where the old firefox was[hidden directory .mozilla] ....how do i make it install??

my mandriva 2006(free) version keeps freezing up after it loads and i open up an application. This happens nearly everytime and if it doesn't happen right after i boot it up, it eventually happens anyways. Is there anyway to fix this. Its really bothering me thanks. edit: oh yeh and its not hardware related (because the clock does not move at all) and im dual booting with windows(in which windows does not freeze)....

no i did about firefox and it had 1.0.6 there..not 1.0.7 i have Easy-Urpmi installed also...so if you could tell me how to upgrade and how to install thunderbird also..thanks

Im wondering how to upgrade firefox. it doesn't have the little red/green thing near the top like the windows version does to upgrade. I went on the site and downloaded the file and i got the tar.gz file and i was wondering how to upgrade from this. Thanks.

Nevermind. I got the internet working using Ndiswrapper and the installation cd. Turns out the card wasn't even broadcom. Hm. Ok well thanks.

do you mean NTFS partition. if so, NTFS partitions are not writable within Linux(or you can but it is in BETA)..it is read only.

i understand its compatible, but i simply cannot find the driver for it on the list. I can't get into my windows partition through linux so i cannot find it using <the program that does that-forgot the name>....When i find a driver that is atleast compatible w/ the brand(broadcom), i highlight it and click next and then it brings me to the exact same screen i had <where it asked to choose from a list or get one from windows>....im not exactly sure of the problem. any help is appreciated

in mandriva control center under hardware : then under ethernetcards...it has 2 cards. The top one is the one i want to use, but icannot find the driver for it. it is the: BCM94306 802.11 g NIC im pretty sure it was something along the lines of a linksys speed booster. But i am not sure. any help is appreciated.
