    Hard drive issues

As it is a Maxtor hard-drive, I would suggest testing your hard-drive with PowerMax from Maxtor. It's tool, which can installed on floppy or burned onto a cd. You can then boot from either the cd or the floppy and check your hard-drive for errors.
  2. I'm curious as to what kind of a graphic card your using? And do you have it running with one of the Mandriva Beta's? I finally managed to get AIGLX up and running, by changing my graphic-card to an ATi. Didn't get Glx running on an nVidia-grpahics car, though.
  3. I've tried it too. But so far, I only managed to get AIGLX working with an ATi graphics-card. I tried Xgl with a nVidia graphics-card, but I had no luck with this so far. It looks nice, ans I'm eager to see it in the final release.
  4. Thanks Ian, that's what I was trying to say. Anyway, it worked for me, hopes it works for you too.
  5. Hi, I had a similar topic a few months ago. Hopes it helps you out. https://mandrivausers.org/index.php?showtop...642&hl=flac
  6. I already found my answer in a little readme-file, that I didn't notice at first.
  7. Hi, as a satisfied Fedora user I've downloaded both the Fedora FC6-Test2 and FC5 Live-Spins from the Fedora Unity Project. But to establish an internet-connection, I need to know the "root"-password. Which I don't. I can't seem to find the password on the site of the Fedora Unity Project either. Does anyone know the password or how to set it? You're help and advice, is much appreciated.
  8. Thanks, Scarecrow. But XGL is, isn't it? But I can't seem to get it working, as you can read in my starting post. Any help, would be much appreciated.
  9. Ah oke. That explains why my kernel-source wasn't updated this morning after I updated with urpmi --auto-select Thanks for the info, Ian.
  10. Same here. Kernel 2.6.12.25mdk? Will check it out later on.
  11. Oke, thanks. Will give it a try, later this week.
  12. Oke, I managed to disable XGL by editing the file: /etc/sysconfig/xgl and change "Yes" to "No". And this got my 3D-rendering back. BTW, the x11-server-xgl is also installed. I also saw that XGL makes use of the nVidia proprietary driver, of which I've installed the latest version.
  13. Hi, I'm running Odin and I would like to know how to set up Xgl/AIGXL? I've installed the nVidia-driver on this system and would have 3D-rendering. But after installing drak3d with urpmi an dtrying to enable AIGXL, my 3D-rendering is gone. My xorg.conf still says Driver "nvidia" but after I log in KDE wants to start and I'm getting this totally blue screen, as to whethet it's trying to laod something but can't find it, then it falls back to the login screen and I can login again and know KDE loads. But the 3D-rendering is gone and opening drak3d gives me Your system does not support 3D desktop effects, which is normal because my 3D-rendering is gone. How can I set up Xgl/AIGXL anyway? Any help is much appreciated? BTW this is my xorg.conf: # File generated by XFdrake (rev 55135) # ********************************************************************** # Refer to the xorg.conf man page for details about the format of # this file. # ********************************************************************** Section "Files" # font server independent of the X server to render fonts. 14. No didn't try that kernel. Still running 2.6.17-2mdv. What's the advantage over the one I'm running, besides the speed-increase?
  15. Thanks a lot, Scoonma. I've got 3D-rendering by disabling "Composite Extension". And I als found "glxgears" an s"glxinfo" within the "mesa-demos"-package. Thanks.
  16. Hi Ian, thanks for your reply. But to be honest, I can't seem to find anything that slightly resembles xorg-opengl-utils But you mentioned Xorg 7.0. I thought about that too, and I can't seem to find an answer to my question as toi whether the latest ATi-driver supports Xorg 7.0. I also installed Odin on another configuration with an nVidia graphics-card and the nVidia-dirver installed and has 3D-rendering, without any hassle. Their latest driver has Xorg 7.0 support, so it wasn't a problem.
  17. Hi, I've installed the latest Cooker release, Odin, on my notebook which is equipped with a ATi Radeon X700 graphics card. I now Cooker is unstable and it's still in Beta. But that's why I installed it anyway. I would like to test it and report any bugs to Bugzila. Anyway, my problem is, that I can't seem to get to install the ATi-driver correctly. I wanted to try the latest release of their driver, which is ati-driver-installer-8.28.8.run. I've installed the right kernel-source, as you can see here: totaal 5 drwxr-xr-x 5 root root 1024 aug 28 08:58 ./ drwxr-xr-x 12 root root 1024 aug 17 11:40 ../ drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 1024 aug 28 08:58 ATI/ lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 17 aug 28 07:27 linux -> linux-2.6.17-2mdv/ drwxr-xr-x 22 root root 1024 aug 28 07:27 linux-2.6.17-2mdv/ drwxr-xr-x 3 root root 1024 aug 17 11:37 rpm/ I followed the installations instructions on the ATi's website. First I made the driver executable and after that I ran the installer as root. After the menu of the installer was closed, I type /usr/X11R6/bin/aticonfig --initia as root. After that I rebooted, and I found out to my surprise, that I have no 3D-rendering, as you can see: [guldukat@localhost ~]$ fglrxinfo Xlib: extension "XFree86-DRI" missing on display ":0.0". display: :0.0 screen: 0 OpenGL vendor string: Mesa project: www.mesa3d.org OpenGL renderer string: Mesa GLX Indirect OpenGL version string: 1.2 (1.5 Mesa 6.5) Another strange thing is, that the command glxinfo | grep direct gives me the following message: bash: glxinfo: command not found Same thing with glxgears I think, Mandriva removed them from either the Cooker edition or completely. Anyway, no 3D-rendering. Just in case, here's my xorg.conf: # File generated by XFdrake (rev 55135) # ********************************************************************** # Refer to the xorg.conf man page for details about the format of # this file. # ********************************************************************** Section "ServerLayout" Identifier "layout1" Screen 0 "aticonfig-Screen[0]" 0 0 InputDevice "Keyboard1" "CoreKeyboard" InputDevice "Mouse1" "CorePointer" InputDevice "SynapticsMouse1" "AlwaysCore" EndSection Section "Files" # font server independent of the X server to render fonts. # minimal fonts to allow X to run without xfs FontPath "unix/:-1" FontPath "/usr/share/fonts/misc:unscaled" EndSection Section "Module" Load "dbe" # Double-Buffering Extension Load "v4l" # Video for Linux Load "extmod" Load "type1" Load "freetype" Load "synaptics" Load "glx" # 3D layer Load "dri" EndSection Section "ServerFlags" #DontZap # disable <Crtl><Alt><BS> (server abort) #DontZoom # disable <Crtl><Alt><KP_+>/<KP_-> (resolution switching) # allows the server to start up even if the mouse does not work Option "allowmouseopenfail" EndSection Section "InputDevice" Identifier "Keyboard1" Driver "kbd" Option "XkbModel" "pc105" Option "XkbLayout" "us(alt-intl)" Option "XkbOptions" "compose:rwin" EndSection Section "InputDevice" Identifier "Mouse1" Driver "mouse" Option "Protocol" "ExplorerPS/2" Option "Device" "/dev/mouse" Option "ButtonMapping" "1 2 3 6 7" Option "ZAxisMapping" "4 5" EndSection Section "InputDevice" Identifier "SynapticsMouse1" Driver "synaptics" Option "Protocol" "auto-dev" Option "Device" "/dev/input/mice" Option "SHMConfig" "on" EndSection Section "Monitor" # Monitor preferred modeline (60.6 Hz vsync, 64.5 kHz hsync, ratio 16/10) Identifier "monitor1" VendorName "Generic" ModelName "Flat Panel 1280x1024" HorizSync 31.5 - 90.0 VertRefresh 60.0 - 60.0 ModeLine "1680x1050" 121.0 1680 1704 1792 1876 1050 1051 1054 1065 -hsync -vsync ModeLine "768x576" 50.0 768 832 846 1000 576 590 595 630 ModeLine "768x576" 63.1 768 800 960 1024 576 578 590 616 EndSection Section "Monitor" Identifier "aticonfig-Monitor[0]" Option "VendorName" "ATI Proprietary Driver" Option "ModelName" "Generic Autodetecting Monitor" Option "DPMS" "true" EndSection Section "Device" Identifier "device1" Driver "fglrx" BoardName "VESA driver (generic)" Option "DPMS" EndSection Section "Device" Identifier "aticonfig-Device[0]" Driver "fglrx" EndSection Section "Screen" Identifier "screen1" Device "device1" Monitor "monitor1" DefaultDepth 24 SubSection "Display" Depth 8 Modes "1280x1024" EndSubSection SubSection "Display" Depth 15 Modes "1280x1024" EndSubSection SubSection "Display" Depth 16 Modes "1280x1024" EndSubSection SubSection "Display" Depth 24 Modes "1280x1024" EndSubSection EndSection Section "Screen" Identifier "aticonfig-Screen[0]" Device "aticonfig-Device[0]" Monitor "aticonfig-Monitor[0]" DefaultDepth 24 SubSection "Display" Viewport 0 0 Depth 24 EndSubSection EndSection Section "Extensions" Option "Composite" EndSection In case you might be wondering, I changed the line Driver "fglrx" to ati, but it made no difference. Any help is much appreciated.
  18. Try updating your urpmi-source with this command: urpmi.update -a And then try to install Amarok with urpmi, wit hthe same command you used earlier on. By the way, what source are you using for urpmi? I hope it's not the Cooker-sources.
  19. Yes it does. Thanks Ian, for helping me solve this problem. Much appreciated. :)

  21. It is. Sorry, for not making it obvious.
  22. Somehow, this doesn't work. Opening /etc/resolv.conf shows my nameservers and I get a response when I try to ping my gateway. But this doesn't get me on the internet. The settings I've entered, should work to establish an internet-connection. In addition. This what my /etc/resolv.conf looks like: nameserver 123.456.789.000 nameserver 123.456.789.001
  23. Thanks, so far Ian. Will try this this evening. For now, I'm going to keep my boss happy. ;)
  24. I have to 2 IP-adresses for the DNS-servers. Can I do this twice: echo "nameserver 10.1.1.1" > /etc/resolv.conf or will this overwrite the first one? If so, how can I add 2 DNS-servers?
