  3. i dont know how much will be able to be solved on this board, but what the hey. ever since i went completely linux instead of half windows/linux partitions my computer has been being really slow, and many times it freezes hard (no mouse movement even). i tried reinstalling mandrake, this time putting fewer packages on that I didnt use. i even went back to 9.0 from 9.1. However, the problem persists. Any suggestions? Note: i have a 1.2 Ghz processor, 256MB RAM, and a 128MB vid card, so hardware shouldnt be my problem i dont think. thanks dave
  4. in mandrake control center... the space for vendor says Vendor: AuthenticAMD Model name: ‎AMD Duron Processor i dont know if that helps or not... i hope it does
  5. Ok, I have an amd duron 1.2 ghz motherboard and I don't have an option to use the agp slot as my primary video card. It gives me the option for PCI or onboard AGP. The PCI option does nothing and the AGP is what works now. Any suggestions?
  6. hello i have an onboard video card (sis630) that is not 3d capable in linux. so i recently bought a 128 MB nvidia GForce4Mx. i was wondering how i switch it so my computer detects the nvidia card and not the other. thanks
  7. can do, and done! thanks again!! :D :D :D
  8. alright! that worked... thanks! by the way, should i delete the fstab.k3bsetup fille or just leave it?
  9. ok, i tried to add that little bit to lilo.conf, but i got this message "the file can not be saved. check to see if you have write permissions" how do i save it? [edit] ok nevermind that... i figured it out i used chmod 777 "/etc/lilo.conf" to gain write access
  10. im not sure if i do or not, but i found that file, so im guessing yes boot=/dev/hda map=/boot/map default="linux" keytable=/boot/us.klt prompt nowarn timeout=100 message=/boot/message menu-scheme=wb:bw:wb:bw image=/boot/vmlinuz label="linux" root=/dev/hda1 initrd=/boot/initrd.img append="devfs=mount hdd=ide-scsi acpi=off quiet" vga=788 read-only image=/boot/vmlinuz label="linux-nonfb" root=/dev/hda1 initrd=/boot/initrd.img append="devfs=mount hdd=ide-scsi acpi=off" read-only image=/boot/vmlinuz label="failsafe" root=/dev/hda1 initrd=/boot/initrd.img append="devfs=nomount hdd=ide-scsi acpi=off failsafe" read-only other=/dev/fd0 label="floppy" unsafe
  11. this was also in there when i was looking for my /etc/fstab it was entitled /etc/fstab.k3bsetup /dev/hda1 / ext3 defaults 1 1 none /dev/pts devpts mode=0620 0 0 /dev/hda6 /home ext3 defaults 1 2 none /mnt/cdrom supermount dev=/dev/hdc,fs=auto,ro,--,iocharset=iso8859-1,codepage=850,umask=0 0 0 none /mnt/cdrom2 supermount dev=/dev/scd0,fs=auto,ro,--,iocharset=iso8859-1,codepage=850,umask=0 0 0 none /mnt/floppy supermount dev=/dev/fd0,fs=auto,--,iocharset=iso8859-1,sync,codepage=850,umask=0 0 0 none /proc proc defaults 0 0 /dev/hda5 swap swap defaults 0 0 /dev/ide/host0/bus1/target0/lun0/cd /mnt/cdrom auto ro,noauto,user,exec 0 0 /dev/scsi/host0/bus0/target0/lun0/cd /mnt/cdrecorder auto ro,noauto,user,exec 0 0
  12. sure, here it is /dev/hda1 / ext3 defaults 1 1 none /dev/pts devpts mode=0620 0 0 /dev/hda6 /home ext3 defaults 1 2 none /mnt/cdrom supermount dev=/dev/hdc,fs=auto,ro,--,iocharset=iso8859-1,codepage=850,umask=0 0 0 none /mnt/cdrom2 supermount dev=/dev/scd0,fs=auto,ro,--,iocharset=iso8859-1,codepage=850,umask=0 0 0 none /mnt/floppy supermount dev=/dev/fd0,fs=auto,--,iocharset=iso8859-1,sync,codepage=850,umask=0 0 0 none /proc proc defaults 0 0 /dev/hda5 swap swap defaults 0 0 /dev/ide/host0/bus1/target0/lun0/cd /mnt/cdrom/ auto ro,noauto,user,exec 0 0 /dev/scsi/host0/bus0/target0/lun0/cd /mnt/cdrecorder auto ro,noauto,user,exec 0 0 hope that helps
  13. hello, i run mandrake 9.1, and i used to burn cds using k3b. recently i tried to copy a cd from my CDROM drive to my CDRW drive. it told me that i couldnt do it until i ran k3b setup. so, i went through k3b setup with (what i thought was) no problems. after that i cant get access to either my cdrom or cdrw drives. it says they are locked when i look at them in /mnt/ .... what went wrong?
  14. woops... i could have swore that i put in what it was.... anyways, it is a microsoft sidewinder.... i tried all of those modprobe commands including modprobe sidewinder, and still no results.... any further suggestions? thanks [EDIT] nevermind!! that worked.... i just needed to restart the app i was testing on!! thanks!! :-D
