  1. Method without command line: 1. Press Alt+F2 2. Type: kdesu Kate - this will launch kate (text editor) with root permissons - of course you can choose any text editor you like 3. Type your root password in the dialog box that asks for it 4. Open the file /etc/rc.d/rc.local (file name is rc.local and directory name is /etc/rc.d/ ) 5. As suggested, somewhere near the bottom, add the line: modprobe ide-floppy 5. Save the document and close the text editor
  2. Just for those who are still afraid about the command line, I will post a few scripts for the games. The script is for AFTER you installed the game. All it really does is launch wine and tell wine the location of the executable file. The one in this post is for Laxius Power I. Save it somewhere on your PC. If your browser displays the contents of the file instead of offering to download, then instead of download it, tell your web browser to "save (page) as". Then open Konqueror, right-click, choose 'rename file'. Rename it 'lpower.sh'. Right-click on the file once more, choose 'properties', then choose 'permissions' and check the checkbox 'is executable'. Then you can just Click on the file whenever you want to play it! You can also drag it to your desktop or taskbar if you want to make a shortcut. If your taskbar is in the way, hide it or roll it up. Oh yeah, if you get stuck with your screen, F4 minimizes the window and should normally restore your standard resolution. Darkelve P.S. anyone actually playing/played this on Linux?
  3. Ok, now we're really pushing the boundaries of sanity. Well, that's what the smiley is for...
  4. Maybe Mandrake will do the marketing now, with Connectiva doing the boxed edition deliveries
  5. Well... Novell is US-based. So since SuSe 'officially' is no longer in Europe (although they still have the company there), they *can* claim this now. Maybe its a stab because of the time where SuSe said they were the 1st commercial distro to offer the 2.6 kernel... ?
  6. Sure: http://www.suseforums.net/index.php?showtopic=12338 This is the 'new' board (yep, the original board split... )
  7. Good post, JeffSmdk. However, I'm sure there'll be some i-diots which will call you a fanboy, only because of your last sentence... there's always these people on OSnews, shouldn't care about them. To me this was an interesting read. Seels like they're doing very well now. On another note: isn't Connectiva the Brazilian distribution which mimics XP almost completely? Or is that another Brazilian distro I'm thinking about now?
  8. Ahem... : http://www.mandrake.tips.4.free.fr/configu...01.html#dvdplay I don't think everyone has this amount of access to your webserver, aRTee!
  9. Well... unless it's in the picture's watermark... ;)
  10. Well yeah... why not. Since I'm writing a lot on Linux anyways these days (personal 'hobby'). I might give it some consideration. Of course I hope I'm good enough!
  11. I too use snd-intel8x0 for my sound with my nforce chipset (nforce1, NOT nforce2) and have no troubles with it.
  12. He seems like more of a 'lurker' to me... but he deserves every credit for his nice rpm-thingies! :) Nothing like a good clean RPM to heal the install troubles that ache you... well, usually.
  13. Nope... can't fool me, I can still smell the Wine... ;) In fact, I suspect it's Crossover Office and some kind of ugly Window Decoration.
  14. Some more updates: (dance the) Samba and (drink your) Wine! 1. Samba This one is getting old, still interesting though: Thanks to a nice read on LinuxJournal: http://www.linuxjournal.com/article/8069 Very interesting if you want to learn more about this project. Great extract from the article: And also might be interesting: "Linux in Government: Setting Up a Linux Desktop in a Small Office Network" http://www.linuxjournal.com/article/8090 2. Wine Eweek article: "Microsoft Seeks to Bottle Up Open Source Wine" http://www.eweek.com/article2/0,1759,1766843,00.asp Wine mailing list: http://www.winehq.com/?issue=262#News:%20M...ks%20for%20Wine
  15. Thanks Pepse! - Okay, I replaced the Jean Tourrilhes one and added the ndiswrapper links. Thanks! Thanks for the links Aoshin! They're now added! :D
  16. Hi, did you think of filing a bug report (i.e. telling Codeweavers what's wrong)? If you bought Crossover Office you are entitled to X months of upgrades and they will probably fix it fast, if they are able to. Chances are that, if nobody reports it, Codeweavers will not know of the problem. Darkelve
  17. Erm... its target audience is the absolute newbie... there's always magazines like LinuxFormat, LinuxJournal etc. for you. Think about it, the 'absolute' Linux n00b had none up to now and that's exactly the point of the magazine, I think. I must admit it made me discover how cool kaudiocreator is and what you can do with Digikam. I think I have an older version of Digikam however, cause I don't have a 'tag' menu or the option to 'print a calendar'. (1 of) the big strength(s) of this magazine is that it helps the user new to Linux to discover and leverage (as in: make use of) the multitude of free and excellent software out there.
  18. We're all asking for more info, Sarissi...
  19. Credits for reporting this go to famewolf from the www.suseforums.net board.

    Best P2P

What about Apollon? I thought it could connect to both Fasttrack (Kazaa), Gnutella and 2 other networks. Although I use Limewire (Gnutella network I think?) more often. For Bittorrent files I like Azureus best.
  21. Please do! ; I'm very interested in this product, but I did not find reviews or any details anywhere except for the standard press release.
  22. It didn't 'look' better, just 'felt' better... I can't explain why though. Probably because the 1st time I used Grub it gave me a lot of trouble... These things tend to stick I guess.
