  1. Well, Skim is great but the problem with skim (The scim for KDE) is that they conflicts with some of the commercial softwares like Realplayer, Adobe Reader, Opera, Skype and .... If you are not going to use any of those, very well. However I think still the best application for using differnt input methods is scim.
  2. I was trying to install Mandriva 2006 official DVD on an NEC laptop with the following description: Model: NEC LaVie PC-LR700CD Processor: IntelĀ® PentiumĀ® M Clock: 1.73 GHz RAM: 480 MB By default the MS Windows XP home edition was installed on it. I tried to install Mandriva using all graphical, Low resolution Graphical and verbose verions, but after the first scene that shows the installation is initiallizing, the screen goes black and nothing happens even after 20-30 minutes. I disconnected all accessories, USBs, IEEE 1394 ports and etc., but nothing happens, either. Anyone has any clues. I appreciate your help.
  3. Well, Forgot to say that it happens even by usinf the alsactl store.
  4. Thank you for many replies. I checked both mute and unmute options and I still have no sound. Well, I found something. Even with muting that option with alsamixer, by rebooting the computer, the option unmutes automatically. Is there any possible problem with booting?
  5. I checked alsamix and all of options are unmuted and to the max. I am using analog speakers and the option you mentioned is also unmuted.
  6. Well, I doublechecked everything and everything seems fine, but still there is no sound.... What should I do? Anyone has any idea?
  7. I am still a newbie but I think both are very stable and look fine to me. It seems that seer of souls is very strictly trying to use the Mandriva Packaging Policies, where Thac and Ze does not. However I have never experiencing any error with rpms from Thac and Ze either. :D
  8. Thank you. I have already done that, but I could not solve the problem. Everything seems fine there.
  9. I am using the Audigy SoundBlaster Sound Card and while I was using Red Hat Enterprise 4 it was working perfectly. Now I changed my system to Mandriva 2006 and the installation and configuration was great.... At the end of installation I even saw that the system has found my sound card drive which is "snd-emu10k1" and so on. However after rebooting the computer there was no sound. I spent almost three days on it and it seems nothing has changed. The problem is that all music applications starts to work, but still no sound. The Identification of the drive is: I checked Kmix and all options are unmuted with the highest value. However, I could not configure alsa using "alsaconf". I tried "system alsa start" and it says that Then I checked if I have alsa-utils and it seems that it is already installed. However the the command "alsaconf" does not work. I checked both "/sbin/chkconfig --list sound" and "/sbin/chkconfig --list alsa" and both of them are: I don't know what is on or what is off, but I think it means that it is on. I am all disappointed. Anyone has any idea what can I do next?
  10. It seems that the problem with the GTK_IM_MODULE=scim and many commercial softwares like Acroread or Realplay still remains and there is no practical solution has been found for it. Unfortunately the bugs in Novel Bugzilla and RedHat Bugzilla RESOLVED CLOSED, but it is still a serious problem, clearly. Has anyone found some general solution for these applications, without changing gtkimmodule to "xim"? Regards, A. Najand
  11. Well you can do: "export GTK_IM_MODULE=xim" in the root shell and you won't have any problem after that.
  12. When I boot from the CD, I am presented with the yaboot 1.3.9 messages. I have tried all gui installs and none of them works. A blue screen with a "x" sign in the middle of the screen and everything freeze afterwards. So I had to use the install-text options. Everything went fine, until I had to perform video configurations. According to the Apple Documentation attached with my imac I have a "ATI Rage Pro Turbo" Grapphic Card. I tries to find it in the list, but it was not there. Any other "ATI Rage"'s I tried failed or during the configuration test the computer just freezed. I don't know what should I do else. Would you please help me to solve this problem? Thanks for your kindness, in advance. The Computer Specifications are as below: iMac G3 233 MHz, PowerPC 750 (G3) processor, 32 MB of RAM, 4.0 GB hard drive ATI Rage Pro Turbo
