    KDE 3.5 [solved]

THanks to Chalex20 and to AussieJohn. As usual, prompt and good advice. Ta very much, Steve
  2. I understand that KDE 3.5 is now stable. How do I ugrade from 3.4, easily and simply. I tried to understand Konstruct but I am afraid it lost me. Could some one advise me. In simple terms please. Thanks Steve moved from Everything Linux by mystified
  3. I have the same problem with my installation, except I have a Riva TNT2 Ultra card and a Samsung Syncmaster 710v and I have the Club DVD official download. I found that the only way I could get around this problem was to use my old Mandriva 2005 disk to load back the original and then do an upgrade with the 2006. This seems to work fine. However it is annoying that an older version of Mandriva works and the newer version does not. Good luck. Steve
  4. I am another person with a problem. When I attemtp to load Man.2006 Official download, all goes well until the reboot, then the normal screen with the slider works through, then a black screen. I have TNT Ultra card and Syncmaster 710 V monitor. I have experienced this problem before with Linux distros, such as SuSe 9.1 and 9.2. What I had to do was to attach my old Daewoo monitor and giggle around with the resolution settings in setup until the programme works. Then I can re-set the Synmaster and resolution. It is a strange problem. Well to me at least and areal hassle. I hope Mandriva geeks can sort out this glick as it is very off putting for new useres. Steve
  5. I have a FinePix F601 Zoom Digital Camera, and am able to download the photos from the camera, as it shows up as portable media on "Devices"; but I am unable to use the camera as a PC Cam. Does anyone know of a driver or method of getting this camera to wor as a PC Cam. I have also tried to use my Sony TRV22E DV Video camera, via Firewire. This only shows up in Kino, but I am still unable to use this as a PC Cam. Any help appreciated. Steve
  6. I am trying to locate a programme that has Video chat e.g MSN in XP. Some freinds and colleagues use MSN and will not change. Thanks for any help. Steve
  7. I am a complete novice to networking. Is it possible to connect my Linux Mandriva 2006 to another computer running XP, via my Zoom Xv5 modem Router? I want to view files and possibly back-up files to the XP Pro computer. I may eventually convert the XP to Linux but at the moment I have important files on it. Could I also access the internet from my XP computer, if necssary? Thank for any assistance. Steve
  8. I was using Yahoo Intellisync and Outlook on my Madriva 2005 setup and have tried to get Intellisync to operate with 2006 but no go. I download it and the icon appears in my Crossover Office menu but nothing happens. I tried linking this and putting it on the desktop and making it executable but still no go. I would like to use this so that I can download all of my information from Yahoo to Outlook. Has anyone else had a similar experience? and how did you deal with this. If some can advise please give some detailed answer as I am still ne to Lynux and Mandriva. Thanks. Steve
  9. I have used CrossOver previously on Man. 2005 with no problems. Howeve load programs o.k. i,e . Office XP but are not evident on the menu. I have searched but unable to find them Crossover says that they are loaded but where? Steve
  10. Has anyone come across this problem. I have just installed the new Mandriva 2006 and wanted to install some new programmes using RPMdrake but I get this message. "Insert medium "The ultimate Linux DVD" on device /dev/hdc. The hdc is my CD rom but when I load the disk RPMdrake says it can not find the medium. I have used a rewritable DVD to download to from the torrent. Is it possible that the CD rom is not recognising the DVD format? I have tried using my DVD Rom but it keeps looking for hdc. Is it possible to tell RPMdrake to look in hdd instead, that if that is the problem? As usual all help and advice most gratefully received. Steve

  15. I am fairly new to Linux and Madriva but am begining to configure the system to do what I want it to. I have recently installed Crossover Pro.3 and loaded Mic. Office XP. as I have a considerable amount of information on my original Outlook I synchronised this with Yahoo, using Intellisinc. I decided to try to run Intellisinc with Crossover and my Outlook in Mandriva Limited Ed. 2005. I now have the Intellisinc installed but every time I run it it says "canot log in to Yahoo, please check your Yahoo ID and password. Well, this is correct. I have switched off the Firewall but no effect. Do I need to set the Server name and Port? If so, could you tell me how to do this. I am connecting via an ethnet and Zoom5 Router I am most abliged for help offered. Steve

It downloaded fine and shows up in the "Available software" of the software configuration module.
