  1. Thanks for the suggestions. Console replied 'cannot find 'windowsapp.exe'". I also did download xwine, got bad signature but installed anyway... Xwine comes up, but there seems to be no wine behind it (probablyno surprise.....). The wine version from source is 20040213, which is pretty old and probably the last official for Mandrake 10.0?? This is probably an untimately basic question, but is there a download source I can use with my installer to get the most current Wine (and XWine) versions. I'm a bit dangerous, and have been warned off of just downloading files and trying to stuff them into my system. Aside from that, this is the only system I have going, having abandoned windows several years ago, and would prefer that it stay up and running. Any suggestions or recommended information sources would be appreciated - I realize that you are not in the basic education business (bigger fish to fry)..... Thanks -- Roger
  2. Hi, Actually I have only the main source - I will add the others. I did set up the easy urpmi correctly, but just with main. The interesting thing was that the program I needed was available through the main source - it just seems that the installer did not automatically identify it as being required. Once selected and downloaded, the Wine programs that were faulting loaded without a hitch. Having trouble getting Wine stated now, so maybe saying all got loaded properly is an overstatement - different thread on the Wine problem..... Thanks -- Roger
  3. Hello, Loaded all of the Wine programs from a mirror after a bit of trouble, but they all seemed to load. Went back to the installed to confirm I had all, and it thinks there is nothing more. Using Mandrake 10.0 Official. Can't seem to get it running. None of the wine bottle icons come up when I insert a disk, and when I go to the Wine Control Panel, it tells me it 'cannot load any applets'. The Wine file manager seems to come up fine and be complete, as well as the Wine configuration tool. Not sure what additional information I can provide re the problem. Probably missing something really simple..... Any help or hints greatly appreciated. Let me know what to look for with respect to diagnostics and I will report back. thanks -- Roger [moved from Software by spinynorman]
  4. Well, decided to independently load x11r6-contrib. Installer would not allow me to load 4.3-32.4.100 but it would allow 4.3-30. That successfully loaded, and then the Wine was able to successfully load (I hope)..... not sure this is an issue with the installer or what (dependency on x11r6 not being activated in the installer). Thanks for all of the help, and I will be back if Wine turns out not to be installed :D Regards -- Roger
  5. Still no luck..... Tried a different mirror, and one file reloaded (possibly an updated version rellative to what was on the system??). Still had a signature failure - tried to load anyway and got a failure 'x11r6-contrib is needed by wine-utils 20040213-3mdk' and 'resync failed :exited with 12 or signal 0'. Is this an issue with the media manager, and should I try and load this file independently?? Any suggestions on how to proceed?? Prior to downloading from the new source, I deleted existing Wine programs using the deinstaller, so the system should have been clean..... Thanks -- Roger
  6. It's Official. I will try a differrent mirror this evening and see if it helps..... Thanks for the tips -- Roger
  7. Knew I would forget something critical........ Mandrake 10.0 (3 CDs) Roger
  8. Hello, Newbie trying to install Wine using the Control Center SW Manager. libwine1 and wine-utils give a 'bad signature' message on 6 files. One example is "libxfree86-4.3-32.4mdk.i586.rpm". I went back and deinstalled wine using the SW Manager, but still encountered the same problem afterwards. Background is that I did a download all of the Wine fines about a half year ago and did what must have been a partial install, probably ran into a problem and got distracted elsewhere. I am guessing that these are downlevel file versions that need to be deleted and reloaded?? Do I just go in and manuall delete these files or is that going to cause even more problems?? Hopefully a simple problem that someone can provide a suggested resolution for.......... I would really like to get Wine up and running!! [moved from Installing Mandriva by spinynorman]

    Sane Install

Thanks, and I will try to be more specific. I did indeed mean the Control Center, and that is now unlocked now that I have rebooted. I did, as suggested in the Easy Urpmi instructions, enter the 'urpmi.removemedia -a', and I have lost access to my install disks on the Control Center. Help I could use: 1) how to I re-enable my Mandrake 10.0 official disks in the Control Center Media Manager? 2) more detailed instructions on how to use urpmi, and if equal functionality can be had via the Control Center (since my use of the console is a work in progress, and currently a bit on the risky side). I must have locked up the media manager prior to running urpmi.addmedia, and so there is not a mirror site on the Control Center Media Manager either (complete backwards progress). I will run urpmi.addmedia again, and hopefully that will at least load the download site. Thanks for your help -- Roger

    Sane Install

Went ahead and ran the urpmi - that ran, but I got a message that the database is now locked, and the RPM manager on the control consol thinks so too..... Appears that the control console thinks that I am accessing via another means, which I assume is the urpmi. What next?? Does usage of urpmi preclude the operation of the control console rpm??

    Sane Install

Newbie trying to get scanner to work. I currently have Sane 1.0.13 currently on Mandrake 10.0 system, but doesn't seem to be all there (3 disk install), so I have downloaded Sane Backend 1.0.15. Ran ./configure on 1.0.15, and it was recommended that the 1.0.13 be removed prior to install. Took a look at the Mandrake deinstall tool, and it looks like deinstalling 1.0.13 via the deinstaller will rip out all sorts of software that I will probably still need. Not sure how to proceed with the install to retain appropriate program interdependencies and still remove the 1.0.13 (and insert 1.0.15 in its place). Probably simple but beyond my limited knowledge. Any suggestions would be appreciated. i would prefer not to end up crippling my system........ Regards -- Roger
  12. On the official Mandrake (or is it Mandrive) site, under officially "certified" scanner hardware for Mandrake 10.0 the CX6600 is listed. Given that the certifiers listed the CX6400 driver used in certifying the CX6600 printer, I assume that they also used the CX6400 driver for the scanner cert (although they don't provide the test configuration). This driver is listed in the Sane db (http://www.sane-project.org/sane-mfgs.html). I am proceeding to download the current backend drivers, and hopefully that will work. Never had to do this before (compile and install), so hopefully it will not be too complex. Regards -- Roger
  13. Scanimage shows no scanner attached, both as a user and root. Since the Epson CX3200 is a valid scanner choice on the Control Center menu, I am assuming that is it valid and supported. I also saw that the CX6600 is one of the few Mandrake 10.0 "certified" scanners, which is why I made this choice, so this is particularly confusing. Too bad the certification test config is not listed - I am assuming that they used the CX3200 or CX5200 drivers listed in the Control Center menu (neither stick). Any other suggestions?? Regards -- Roger
  14. Hi, Both the SCSI Epson and USB lines are uncommented, so I will proceed to comment the SCSI line. XSane is installed, and only initializes because it can't find a device (provides screen message)..... It seems like since the scanner config won't stick in the control center for even a moment, something else is going on. Thanks -- Roger
  15. Newbie working to get my scanner installed (Epson CX6600). The Control Center (Mandrake 10.0) will automatically detect the scanner (Epson USB2.0 MFP LIBUSB 001:002), and then will let me install it selected as a CX3200, and says that I can now scan!! BUT - when I click 'ok' on the control center panel and the Control Center rescans, there is no scanner installed and it asks me if I want to install the Epson it just found?? I seem to be in a loop - any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I think I am on the verge, but obviously something is not quite right.... Thanks -- Roger
  16. Hi Javaguy, I am in the process of trying to set up my CX6600 scanner - anything you learned regarding the process to get it working would be greatly appreciated!! Regards -- Roger
