  1. Thanks, I managed to get the channels back by disabling Pulse audio. I had tried before posting, but didn't realize you had to reboot instead of just log out\in. I found that on an earlier post by SilverSsurfer60. The channel causing the problem was the "phone" channel. Sound is now perfect.

What are the advantages of using Pulse audio? I may experiment with PA and try aumix or alsamixer, as Ken suggested. Would there be any benefit?

Edit: If I swapped back to PA, would the phone channel stay muted?

    Cheers

  2. Hi Chaps

    Just installed 2010.2, works great.

Problem is when i click on the sound applet and choose mixer, kmix shows only one channel "internal audio analog stereo" no others are available, used to be just fine in 2010, where I could choose from a multitude of channels. I need to get to the channels to mute one of them (can't remember which one) because with it unmuted my mouse makes a noise through the speakers when it is moved, it's very annoying

Any ideas what I need to do, the driver is the same as far as I can recollect and it's using Alsa with Pulse audio enabled.

    Thanks

  3. Problem solved guys

Go to http://wiki.slimdevices.com/index.php/MandrivaLinux and follow the instructions. The top script won't work, for obvious reasons. (old)

You can then install modules, i.e. >cpan install CGI::Cookie or whatever.

It also complained about YAML so installed that as well. I had to configure the Firewall to connect.

    "service squeezeboxserver status" = Running

Server is now up and running and playing music. Server configuration address, 127.0.0.1:9000

    Ted

In the end I used 7.5 RPM

  4. Hi.

I've been trying to install squeeze box server with no luck. I first used the rpm, which installed ok, but had problems.

If i used "services squeezeboxserver start" I got this,

"The following CPAN modules were found but cannot work with Squeezebox Server:

    CGI::Cookie (loaded <not found>, need 1.27)

To fix this problem you have several options:

    1. Install the latest version of the module(s) using CPAN: sudo cpan Some::Module

    2. Update the module's package using apt-get, yum, etc.

    3. Run the .tar.gz version of Squeezebox Server which includes all required CPAN modules."

I uninstalled the RPM and downloaded and unpacked squeezeboxserver-7.4.2-29959.tgz there are no configure or install files. If I use ./slimserver.pl --daemon I get the same error as above.

"The following CPAN modules were found but cannot work with Squeezebox Server:

    CGI::Cookie (loaded <not found>, need 1.27)"

What do i need to do to sort this problem?

I'm really at a loss for what to try next, running 2010 btw.

    Thanks

    Ted

  5. Hi

For a little while now i've had the java-1.6.0-sun packages ready to update, but the update manager keeps complaining about bad signatures. I've updated all sources with no change.

I've had this before but it normally resolves itself in a day or two. Could i just install with bad sigs, what is likely to happen ? Should i just wait ?

    Thanks

  6. msec is resetting security permissions on files. This is normal. If you don't want this, you can reduce the security level on your system so that it doesn't do it. You probably have it to highest level which is why it's doing it.

Thanks Ian, that's fine as long as i know what's going on. Just getting a bit paranoid these days. "highest level" sounds good to me.

  7. Hi

I usually get a pop up message from msec saying it has done a security check. Today i noticed a different pop up, to quick to catch properly but mentioned /var/log.

I've looked at /var/log/msec.log and found these entries.

Can't find anything similar in a search, any ideas what this means? is there a problem and if there is, what do i do?

    Thanks

  8. On first boot i found i had a normal desktop with icons and stuff. i changed it to "desktop" from "folder view" in Desktop activty / Type. On rebooting it had reverted to Folder view with icons and stuff.

The widgets stay where they are put now. Something going on, not quite sure what though! i'll do a bit more poking around and see where i get. Not a big problem, i can live with it. :)

  9. Hi

Just did a clean install of 2009.1 (not an upgrade). Everything went great and its up and running fine.

Just one small thing, if i add a widget to the workspace and drag it to where i want it, after a few seconds it jumps back across the screen, like its on a "snap to grid" I've tried all the settings i can find, no good. Run a few searches on the net and on here as well, can't find anything. Probably something really silly, just can't figure out what it is!

Anybody else had this problem? Suggestions appreciated.

    Thanks

  10. try rebooting with the live CD

Try as i might, i couldn't get root access with the Mandriva One CD.

Remembered i had a copy of Ubuntu 8.04 (well, you have to try these things, don't you) blew the dust off of it and booted machine.

"sudo gedit", backed up and swapped files, rebooted and everything is back to normal. Phew!

I'll have another go at what i tried, tomorrow. But this time i'll RTFM!

Thanks Guys. What would we do without you?

  11. Hi Ian

the 160gb disc was my original disc with my main system on (2009). I set the lable "160gb". The 80gbdisc is the disc i added, again i labeled it "80gb. i don't care about the 80gb disc its the other one i need to recover. If i remove the 80gb disc, i get the same errors.

Thinking back it may have been the /home partition that i re-labeled!

If i type my root user password in and press enter, i get... (repair filesystem) 1 #

No idea what to do with that.

  12. Hi

I just put a second hard drive in my machine, that is not the problem.

I went into the disk partitioner and changed the labels to something that made them more recognizable. I shouldn't have done that!

    On reboot i get.

    fsck.ext3: Unable to resolve 'LABEL=160GB

    fsck.ext3: Unable to resolve 'LABEL-80GB

***An error occurred during the file system check.

***Dropping you to a shell; the system will reboot

    ***when you leave the shell.

    Give root password for maintainance

    (or typeControl-D to continue):

HELP!, what do i need to do to repair the file system?

I would really appreciate any assistance.

    Thanks

  13. Just read this thread as i am having problems with FF 3.0.5 and i think, Flash.

Occasionally i go to sites that contain flash players and FF shuts down, just Boof! and gone. i can reproduce this over and over so its not a one off.

I just disabled Ad Block and tried again and it works perfectly. Seems to be some incompatability there, somewhere.

  14. Hey guys,

How do i change the workgroup name in the samba configuration section (2008) just can't figure out how to do it, its driving me nuts :wall:

Don't remember any problems in 2007.

    Thanks

Its OK i've just worked it out, been a while since i've had to change it.

    cheers.
