  1. I want to block certain sites for certain persons, i know that if a place the line 127.0.0.1 www.home.nl the site of home.nl is blocked and when i tried to open it i got the 404 error. But the problem is that nobody on the computer can acces the site. How can i do that for a certain person. I have a standard installation of Mandriva 2008, no samba or other stuff installed. I don't want to install samba or other stuff.
  2. You must change the permisions in /etc/security/console.perms.d/50-mandriva.perms (for 2006 it is /etc/security/console.perms) As i mentioned before. With "chmod" the permissions in /dev will be set back to standaard after restart
  3. Have you give NVRAM read/write permisions voor user. In /etc/security/console.perms.d (for 2006 it is /etc/security/console.perms) you find a file called 50-mandriva.perms there you find a line <console> 0400 <misc> 0600 root change that line in <console> 0600 <misc> 0660 root.nvram make sure you have a group called nvram (no users neccessary) This is the only way to give NVRAM permanend the neccessary rights (chmod 660 /dev/nvram doesn't make the permissions permanent). If that does'nt work change 0600 also in 0660.
  4. Here is my TPBRC, the lines that are uncommend are for my 4 buttons of my R31. I have four buttons: thinkpad, volume up-down, and mute #### TPB CONFIGURATION FILE ### DEVICE SETTINGS ## NVRAM # Should define the nvram device from where the information about the key # states is read. Default is auto. # #POWERMGT AUTO ### X11 SETTINGS ## XEVENTS # Some of the special keys generate X11 events instead of changing the nvram. TPB # is able to grab those keys and run an application. However some people like to # use the X11 events through xmodmap or the like. This option turns off the # grabbing of the events. Affected keys are HOME, SEARCH, MAIL, FAVORITES, # RELOAD, ABORT, BACKWARD, FORWARD and FN. 5. By the way, a nice site with lots of info about thinkpads you find here
  6. Yes the R31 has also software volume control. I will post my /etc/tpbrc tonight when i'm back home.
  7. Can't you use bcm43x-firmwarecutter, i've a broadcom 4306 w-lan and de-installed ndiswrapper. Also did rmmod ndiswrapper in the console (as root). Then i got to the networksection and choose wireless and the option broadcom corporation bcm43... put the cd from broadcom in the cd-player and searched for the *.sys file.
  8. You can install tpb (tinkpadbuttons) and edit the file /etc/tpbrc and you can use all the thinkpad buttons. I have a R31 and it works perfectly. You need to give nvram in /dev read/write acces for the user. Make also a new group called nvram with no users, otherwise you got a error while booting.
  9. Cant you place the lines you type after "modprobe" not simple place them in /etc/modprobe.preload. so that they will be loaded every time you boot. So you don't need to do "rmmod usb-storage"
  10. I'm running 2008 and there is a file called config.opts in /etc/pcmcia maybe is that the file.
  11. It is not a answer but, don't use Parition Magic to resize paritions. On the only computer with a dualboot i always defrag windows a couple of times and let Mandriva resize the paritions during the install. I've read so many problems with parition magic and Linux.
  12. Have you configured you're software sources with Easy-Urpmi, it's there foor 2008 https://mandrivausers.org/easyurpmi/index.php
  13. Thanks i've found them in cooker, rpmfind.net couldn't find them either. Now installing them and testing. Works like a charm
  14. I'm glad that there is libgpod 0.6.0 in rpm format (i've destroyd my sons ipod) but i can't find a rpm for libgpod 0.6. Not by rpm.pbone.net or rpmseek.com
  15. windows xp with 128 ram, no way. I know there is a Mandriva 2007(1) XFCE version but i can't find it anymore. The best option is to increase the memory to 512 mb.

    Lenovo Thinkpad R61i

Just edit the line in the example i gave. How you added a new group with the cli i don't now (still not after 5 years of using Mandriva ) i use MCC to do that. You need to added the group nvram no users needed, with no group nvram you get een error while booting Mandriva that's all. With the nvram group the error is gone
  17. There is a howto on the internet for installing Ubuntu on a Asus eee PC, i think it will work also for Mandriva. If i find the link i will post it.

Search in MCC/software for TPB (ThinkPadButtons) install it. You can edit de file /etc/tpbrc. You also need to edit /etc/security/console.perms.d/50-mandriva.perms to set the rights of Nvram right. There is a line that must look like like <console> 0600 <misc> 0660 root.nvram and make a group called nvram
  19. MCNL is the Dutch MandrivaClub, we build sometimes rpm's for members if they asked for it and there isn't a rpm for that programm.
  20. I've installed Mandriva 2008 also from a usb-dvd player. I downloaded cd-rom 1 en the dvd iso, put the DVD in de usb-DVD en cd 1 in de comp. started my comp from cd1 and he asked where from installed 2008 i choose fore usb-DVD and it work perfectly
  21. The only problem i've had with installing 2008 is Grub, every time is boot 2008 it hangs before KDE came up. After several times reinstalling i choose as bootmanager not the graphical Grub but the textbased Grub, that was the trick. I've a IBM R31 with a i810 graphical chipset. For the rest it works fine.
  22. Take a look here http://hplip.sourceforge.net/ i don't know if you're printer is supported but it works for my HP photosmart 2575 which is connected on the router.
  23. Isn't K3Bsetup removed from 2007(1), the last version of Mandy ive seen it was 2006.
  24. NVU is a wysiwyg website editor, you can install it with urpmi nvu in the console, of with MCC Take a look on there Website
