  1. If you wan't to work graphical (just like me) use "openasroot" as sayd before, there is no need to log in as "root". Besides it's by standard disabled in Mandriva
  2. I don't know about epson i've heard the are working well with Linux, i've now my second HP-allinone and its working out of the box. The only thing is there are only 2 cartridges in the HP, colour and black instead of 4 cartidges (CMYK).
  3. You need the original cd of your w-lan card with the windows drivers. Go to the MandrivaConfiguration Centre (MCC) choose "network and internet" then "new interface" and then "wireless" follow the instructions, when asked put in the cd-rom and choose the *.inf or *.sys from the xp-folder. Compleet the installation.

    text to speech

Is there a programm that can read a text document for example in openoffice or another texteditor and then read the text for you, like a parent reads a book for a little child. I need such a programm for my son who has trouble with reading text, in dutch it's caled "dyslexie".
  9. I had the same problem, i deleted kdm logged out. At the prompt i logged in as root,re-installed KDM with urpmi kdm and restart my laptop.
  10. If you have set your software sources with Easy-Urpmi, you can go to "MCC/installing software" and type openasroot . Install it, go to your home en rightclick on a folder or a document. A popup is coming up, click on action and you see edit as root by a file, or you see open as root by a folder. You see there is no need to login as root.
  11. I' m running RC1 One since its out, and it is stable on my laptop (Acer aspire 5315). Everything works just fine. I have no other version of Mandriva on that Laptop.
  12. On the top of page you find Easy-Urpmi click on it and follow the instructions. Than you can all the software you'll need withou the DVD.
  13. Don't upgrade from 2006 to 2008 this goes wrong, do a new install of 2008 and format only "/" not "/home". And all your settings and documents stay intact. NVU is replaced by KOMPOZER, works the same, looks the same is the same. gFTP is also in 2008
  14. I've played with 2008.1 beta and now with RC1 on my laptop (Acer Aspire 5315) and everything works fine. Sound and W-lan didn't work with 2008. The only thing is, when i boot i hit the Esc-key so i can see what is happening during boot i see "UDEV" and it stops there for about 2 a 3 minuts. I find that to long, with 2008 you see "UDEV" an booted further.
  15. Here you'll find more info about MCNLive (Toronto), also on www.mandrivaclub.nl is a english subforum with questions and answers about MCNLive.
  16. I use only WEP-encryption with MAC-filtering for over three years now and it works fine for me. Never a problem. Therefore i had only MAC-filtering.
  17. In the time you're talking now about how bad Linux is and how good windows is, you're problem with Linux could be solved. And were you working with Linux instead of windows.
  18. Is'nt Mandriva booting into the graphical interface (KDE) and you see a black screen with something like[willie@localhost ~]$
  19. Set your software sources with easy urpmi with you can find on the frontpage. And than install cups, you don't need the dvd anymore. The software on the DVD is old.

    4GB Ipod Nano

They should also work in 2007.1, maybe he needs some deps but that should be all.
  21. Set the minimaly to 13 or 14 instead of 12 and it will look better. The fonts in firefox are in pixels instead of dpi

    4GB Ipod Nano

That is the third generation Nano, which is protected by Apple so you only can upload with itunes. You can upload music with Amarok, GTKpod but the nano wan't play it. I've tried with my son and daughter there nano's. In cooker is a new GTKpod with libgpod but you can find them also here
  23. At the top of the frontpage you see Easy-Urpmi follow the instructions on that page. After doing so you can go the MCC (MandrivaControlCenter) or startmenu/tools/systemtools/configure your computer choose software type the softwaretitel you want to install. There is also a wiki with information about Mandriva and how things work.
  24. Is there a reason that you want to copy it to the harddisk, if you set you're URPM-sources correct with Easy-Urpmi (see the frontpage) you have all the software you want and all the update's
  25. Rightclick on the taskbar choose: panelmenu - configure panel then choose "menu's" and unmark "Show side pictures" and de leftbar in the startmenu is gone. If you can change the text i don't know.
