  1. Looks like I'm in that group too because your solution didn't work here either. This is on Mandriva 2008 Free. Since the word menu is written in Hungarian (Menü) on my button so I think the text is not part of the picture. edit: I found it. You have to add ShowText=false to your kickerrc file under the [KMenu] section and text won't be there. The bad news is that the button remains the same size. So if you want the nice round button but only with the star in it you have to edit the icon. The question is which icon cause I can't find it. More precisely I found it under /var/lib but I can't find the original one.
  2. Ilia the problem with the Firefox spell checker (marking every word) happens to me when I forgot to switch it back to English.
  3. And while we are at changes congrats to Mnadriva for the new website and for the new look of the club page. They look a way better now.
  4. KDE or Gnome? In KDE right click and choose the "Link pointing to an application". Or something like that, I'm not using English localization.
  5. Check your /usr/lib/opera/plugins dir. There should be a symlink.
  6. Novell today announced the availability of openSUSE 10.3, the newest version of the award-winning community Linux distribution. Enhancements to openSUSE 10.3 include the newest versions of the GNOME and KDE desktop environments, including a KDE 4 preview. OpenOffice.org 2.3 makes sharing files easy, and the newest version of AppArmor protects the Linux operating system and applications from attacks, viruses and malicious applications. OpenSUSE 10.3 also now includes MP3 support out of the box for Banshee and Amarok. Read the press release and release announcement for more information. source: distrowatch.org
  7. Kuickshow sucks. Gwenview is what you're looking for.
  8. Drakxtools are the configuration utilities of Mandriva Linux. The programs in the Mandriva Control Center (software installer, hardware configurator etc).
  9. Seems like you your window decorator is not starting.Beryl has 3 window decorators. One for Gnome themes (Heliodor), one for KDE themes (Aquamarine) and one for its own themes (Emerald). As I noticed the default in Mandriva is Aquamarine under KDE. And I assume Heliodor under Gnome. So you can change themes in the KDE control center or in the Gnome control center as usual. But if you want to use the themes for Beryl you have to use Emerald. For this you have to edit your /etc/sysconfig/compositing-wm and add the line COMPOSITING_WINDOW_DECORATOR=emerald then logout, restart the x server then log back in. There should be a GUI way to change window decorators but I don't know where it is.
  10. Mandriva already has a crashandler called drakbug. You can see it if any of the drakxtools is crashing. Otherwise the KDE and GNOME has its own crashandler AFAIK.
  11. That date is not carved in stone. Never was. The only thing we know they should be ready soon.
  12. Here's a great article about the new fetures of Mandriva 2008.
  13. Or they can just use an already working voting system. Like take the results of sourceforge\freshmeat\etc votings.

  15. Instead of /usr/lib/firefox-2.0.0.3/plugins try /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins. And try to update your system Firefox 2.0.0.3 is outdated.
  16. If you find some bugs report it. I reported an rpmdrake bug on the live cd. It was fixed on the next day.

  22. Dolphin is in contrib/release, the virtualbox packages are in main/release. So if you can't find them now adding the non-free repo won't help in it. It's still useful though.
  23. 24. Valve Corporation is an American video game developer based in Washington, USA, made famous by its first product, Half-Life, which was released in November 1998. Read more... Over the years, Valve has released a lot of very successful games, but was criticized for not caring about Linux gamers. The Linux port of their games and Steam for Linux was asked for on their forum again and again, but their answer was always no. They even threatened the next person who asks this with a ban. Time seems to change. Valve is now hiring a Senior Software Engineer. One of their tasks will be to "port Windows-based games to the Linux platform." source: hup.hu
  25. There is a new AMD driver. Still no AIGLX support in this one - they are promising it for the next version. It's for both architectures (x86 and x86_64) according to the file name. Read the Release notes here. Download it here.
