  1. i am pretty sure i can boot from both also. i dont recall if i have a boot menu or have to change in the bios . do you know how to change master /slave settings? this shows a hard drive but it's basically the same for a cd/dvd drive one needs to be set as master one as slave ...assuming they are on the same ide controller/ ribbon
  2. you can't boot a dvd from a cd rom drive check your bios for boot options you need to get the dvd rom set as the 1st boot device
  3. why would anyone use a DHCP LAN assigned IP for any type of server ?
  4. did you copy the .iso to the dvd or create an iso dvd ? when you download an ISO file it needs to be burnt onto the cd/dvd differently that just coping data on the disk ,.
  5. just set mine yesterday to a local radar view ( u know watching a rain storm ready to go camping ) from what i understand it works like this .. you enter the width ie 800 you set the height ie 600 then you set the file name ie. radar.png then you add the URL in /configure/desktop/advanced/use following program/kwebdesktop. kwebdesktop takes a snap shot of the webpage depending on the time refresh you pick once thats entered you pick the radar.png as your background you'll have to tweak it to size depending on what your page shows the %x %y %F is where you add your numbers and file name removing (%x)
  6. for the past 7-8 months i have recieved 2 copies each month of a popular linux rag . i've sold em on ebay or the dvd's that come with the magazine. sometimes the dvd has mandrake and mandrake hits the roof when i try to sell anything labeled mandrake on ebay . anyway i have 3 back issues still in the envelope and another on the way soon i'm sure . anyone interested in having them sent , i am only looking to have these materials put to use instead of sitting on my floor , and all i ask is for the shipping to be paid for by you . i live in N.E. USA
  7. security set to higher? check /etc/hosts.allow
  8. i ran into this with LE2005 also i forget exactly how i got around it . and i am not sure what version the rpm installs but here is the version currently working on my LE2005 . it has an icon in the programs menu so i assume i got the rpm package to work finally ..keep bangin on it limewire 4.8.1 java 1.4.2_07
  9. i use a SIP phone .. kinda like skype . the results you describe sound like what i get with my SIP when behind certain non compatable routers . can you confirm skype working behind your router on another pc or have you gotten skype to work at your place before ?
  10. i have used a program called outport http://outport.sourceforge.net/ used to import ms outlook to evolution worked well
  11. try installing and using "webmin" for managment of the servers .
  12. install the packages : start the services if you installed LE you had a menu with packaes to pick for installing the servers you mention i would add installing "webmin" to magane and configure these servers start off by updating your source for all packages by clicking up above the link for "Easy Urpmi " http://www.mandrivausers.org/easyurpmi then pick n choose the packages you want to install
  13. i asked to test via PM and you are the third person on this board i have tried to contact either by email or PM .. with zero results i guess the thing just doesn't work . please email me details @ ddmcse@gmail.com
  14. of the three you listed i would go with lycoris it's free I used lycoris to setup a newbie . new to computers and the person loves it and upgraded to high speed without calling me ..i had installed a nic and they were able to get connected. linspire is very nice and i've used it at times , i have a lifetime subscription ,, it's very nice to browse through linux apps and install with one click and not have to worry about untarring and compiling but for everything you gain you lose something ... it's not free really. you need a subscription to use click n run it does by default setup the main user as root . the flexablilty isn't there overall Xandros is about the same . it's not free they use something like a click n run subscription and it costs money i would definatly go with lycoris of the three i have used all three and at one time or another was "sold " on the distro but i always went back to MD
  15. the easiest is to use ALL:ALL and let your external router handle the rest of the port blocking edit hosts.allow to let all into SSH daemon, Sendmail and our ident daemon: identd: ALL sendmail: ALL sshd: ALL Don't use above example if you don't like allowing anyone to access the Sendmail daemon, ssh daemon and/or ident daemon. If you'd like to have hosts on your intranet access to your POP3 daemon, but not anyone else you can do something like this in hosts.allow: popa3d: 127.0.0.1 192.168.0. With this rule access is granted to our POP3 daemon popa3d from localhost and the "192.168.0." IP range. You can read "192.168.0." like 192.168.0.*, 192.168.0.1 - 192.168.0.254, or 192.168.0.0/24. It comes down to 254 IP addresses that start with "192.168.0". More information More information can be obtained by reading the following man pages: - hosts_access(5) - hosts_options(5) - tcpd(8)
  16. i like to use an app , it's geared towards databases . Codecharge writes just about any database into PHP, ASP, JSP, Perl, ColdFusion, ASP.NET. it's really slick . http://www.yessoftware.com/products/produc...hp?product_id=1 bummer is : its on windows platform and cost some cash .
  17. how about deny ALL on port 22 EXCEPT your remote IP unless you are using a dynamic remote IP
  18. edit /etc/hosts.allow ALL:ALL opens every port for every pc so you might not want it that extreme you need to figure out what ports/pc's you want open
  19. you won't find index.html you will find index.shtml as the default in /var/www/html the configuration files for the web server are /etc/httpd you might want to install and use "webmin" to mange your webserver
  20. ok could you be more specific it's fairly easy to get going . infact it probably is going
  21. i think you have a loose wire . . it worked on md 10 before you disconnect the kvm right ? this adapter thingy might be your issue . have a plain jane set of speakers? do programs appear to plain sounds i.e. play a music cd or mp3 . it's not clear to me when or how long the issue has been an issue see if playing a music cd works and then try and move the wire that plugs into the sound card
  22. i'm running it , i'm not too crazy about the large balloons when you mouse over item's on the panel menu last time i checked urpmi didn't have club 3.4 listed
