  1. My apologies for wasting any one's time. The fault was my own. next time, I shall make sure all things are plugged in the correct port before posting.
  2. I've been using MythTV as I've found out the hard way that xawtv, freevo and even kdetv won't work. I've followed with Wiki on several different installs, including building my own ivtv module with several different versions (0.2, 0.3 and 0.4) all to no effect.
  3. Did the above and now I can't find any channels in MythTV when I scan for them. Also, what was once a static-y buy quasi-visible image during mplayer /dev/video is nothing but static now. I've done all the research on the channel frequencies and even tried manually adding the channels, again to very little effect. I've also tried us-cable and us-cable-hrc with varying options but still can't seem to get the right picture on the screen. I'm now using ivtv-0.4.0 and am following this guide. Not sure what else to provide you with.
  4. Nothing but static. I've tried scanning for channels in MythTV to no luck. I can't even get it to find channels 3 and 4. I had everything up and running about a week ago, but then I lost it. I've started over twice now (complete format). At my wit's end with this thing and contemplating Windows.
  5. Thanks, didn't know about the modinfo. It's Version 0.2.0-rc3h
  6. I say another because I must have read a hundred others, all offering no help for my setup. Asus A7N8X-X MB Athlon XP 512 DDR Ram 160GB HD 80GB HD DVD/CD-RW Mandrake 2005 LE (10.2) Kerenl 2.6.11-6mdk Honestly can't tell which IVTV driver is loaded and functioning. i've gone from the 0.2 series to URPMI ivtv and URPMI dkms-ivtv and finally to the 0.3 series. Somewhere along the way, it found a way to work. MythTV is up and running, allowing me to watch, record and play back TV, but when I try to fix my xorg.conf to allow TV-Out, I get no dice. Below is my working xorg.con and two versions that don't work. Any help is appreciated. Thanks. 7. After I configure the module and click OK, the "Run Config Tool" option doesn't appear. I can get it to appear only if I got into MCC and click on TV Card in the first Hardware section. After doing that, it says "There was an error while scanning for TV channels" Any ideas?
  8. Weirdest thing, I posted the above reply and figured I'd give it one more chance. Put the files into k3b and it started burning like it was never a problem. Go figure. I just wish I knew what had caused it and how to prevent it from happening in the future. Oh well, thanks for everyone's help.
  9. libmad is installed. k3b version is 0.11.16. The drive is rather old (at least 4 years), so perhaps it's just time for a new one. In the meantime, it still reads CDs, so I've got that going for me.
  10. Had tried burning as both user and root to no effect. I just turned off DMA, but am getting the exact same results. Something I neglected to mention is that when I do force the media, I get the following: Not sure if that's helpful, but I'm just getting frustrated with the whole thing.
  11. I've tried with and without that line in my lilo.conf to no avail. I had seen that line on a few message boards and started playing with it.
  12. Mandrake 10.1 KDE 3.2.3 TDK VeloCD 40/12/48B Been running Mandrake 10.1 for about 6 months now and had no problems burning CDs. I was burning a few today, and, as usual, no problems. The last CD I was burning was going as normal and had reached 100%, but the buffer hadn't emptied (sitting at 18%), so I let it run. It ran for 17 minutes with no change. Killed K3b and tried again, same exact thing (buffer at 18%). Rebooted and tried again. Same thing. Rebooted and tried a different set of audio and K3b won't recognize that there's a blank CD in the drive. If I try and force the media, I get the following: Everything looks fine (to me, a man with little experience in this arena) until I get to: I have perused the internet (including this forum), but was unable to find anyone experiencing a siminal problem. I'm going to try and anticipate a few problems first, so as to expedite things. The drive mounts properly and I can read both data and audio from previously-burned and factory CDs. I have tried a plethora of media, all to no avail. I used a piece of media I attempted to force (only to receive the above message) and was able to successfully burn data onto it on another computer. cdrecord -scanbus yields: Cdrecord-Clone 2.01.01a01-dvd (i686-pc-linux-gnu) Copyright (C) 1995-2004 Jörg Schilling Note: This version is an unofficial (modified) version with DVD support Note: and therefore may have bugs that are not present in the original. 13. Yes, it does remove a ton of dependencies, but you can reinstall those as you need them. Installing mdkkdm installs a few of them again too.
  14. Ok, in exact steps. Login to kde however you can (drop into shell and startx, presumably). Open up a terminal. su *password* urpme mdkkdm urpme kdebase-kdm urpmi mdkkdm Reboot and everything *should* be fine. urpme is the command for uninstalling an rpm file.
  15. I'm up and running in KDE 3.4! Ok, this is how I fixed it. First, I had to change my sound driver (from emu10k1 to Audigy), which was causing a hang on boot. After I could finally boot cleanly, I urpme'd mdkkdm and kdebase-kdm. I then urpmi'd just mdkkdm. Booted and everything was fine. I hope this helps everyone out, as I was getting just a frustrated with it as everyone else.
  16. I've also given up. Now, I can't even boot non-interactively due to the system hanging after start Alsa. If I get past it, I get to kdm. Password works, but it throws me into xterm. Login again and startx to get up and running. Going to reinstall Mandrake 10.1 again tomorrow (time number 2342341231209) and, like Joe, forgot about 3.3 or 3.4 until they're officially supported by Mandrake. Oh well.
  17. I've got the same problem, Joe. I've spent the last 3 days attempting to get it working. Right now, I'm 'urpmi --auto-select' with just the sources from easy urpmi. After that I plan on 'urpmi kdebase' in an effort to upgrade from KDE 3.2 to 3.3. Then, I will add Thac's rpms to my source list and again 'urpmi kdebase', hoping to upgrade from 3.3 to 3.4, but who knows if this will work. If it doesn't, I'll just stick with 3.2, as it works just fine. I'll let you know if this works.
  18. I installed using the Mini-Iso CD. Everything is up and running (as has been flawlessly) up until now.
  19. Installed XMMS (via urpmi), loaded up a playlist in Amarok and let it finish. Then, I was logged out. Anyone have any ideas why?
  20. It is most certainly Amarok/XMMS related. After allowing another playlist to run until completion I was again logged out and /var/log/messages again showed the same errors. I'm going to install XMMS and give it a try again tomorrow.
  21. No "Software Management" (and by extension, "Updates") in Configure Your Desktop. Also, I don't even have XMMS installed (though, I do have libxmms1). Perhaps if I install XMMS it will fix it?
  22. No, I'm certainly running KDE (3.2). I did find this other post (http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/showthread.php?s=&threadid=188246) where a guy had similar error messages in his messages log, but his was related to an ethernet card (mine's working fine). Someone suggested that there's a conflict between KDE and XMMS, which would support my theory with Amarok. However, I don't really see uninstalling XMMS (and, by extension, Amarok) as a viable option. (Not to mention I'm uncertain if it's even the cause of the problem as it was running just fine until recently).
  23. Just got logged out again and the same sequence of messages appears in my /var/log/messages. I did notice that my playlist in Amarok had just finished, but still not sure if this is coincidental or a conflict of some kind.
  24. No XFree86.0.log in /var/log (or anywhere else that I can see), but /var/log/messages has the following: Mar 6 13:19:09 192 kde3(pam_unix)[15067]: session closed for user jason Mar 6 13:19:09 192 kernel: mtrr: 0xd0000000,0x4000000 overlaps existing 0xd0000000,0x100000 Mar 6 13:19:09 192 kernel: drivers/usb/input/usbkbd.c: led urb status -32 received Mar 6 13:19:12 192 kernel: drivers/usb/input/usbkbd.c: led urb status -32 received Mar 6 13:19:16 192 kde3(pam_unix)[22058]: session opened for user jason by (uid=0) Mar 6 13:19:17 192 net_applet[22152]: ### Program is starting ### Mar 6 13:19:17 192 gconfd (jason-22199): starting (version 2.6.4), pid 22199 user 'jason' Mar 6 13:19:18 192 gconfd (jason-22199): Resolved address "xml:readonly:/etc/gconf/gconf.xml.mandatory" to a read-only config source at position 0 Mar 6 13:19:18 192 gconfd (jason-22199): Resolved address "xml:readwrite:/home/jason/.gconf" to a writable config source at position 1 Mar 6 13:19:18 192 gconfd (jason-22199): Resolved address "xml:readonly:/etc/gconf/gconf.xml.defaults" to a read-only config source at position 2 This is repeated about two or three times in the log, which I believe coincides with the logouts, but I won't know until it happens again.
  25. Nicotine is not the cause of all my troubles (thankfully), but they're still there.
