I have 4 video players installed in my Mageia-4 machine.

I find Xsine not worth the time because it takes just about for ever to set, it is just seems so complicated.

My old faithful, Totem is totally useless nowdays since it now seems to not play practically most of regular formats it used to play

up until about a year ago.

Svlc and Dragon will play the U-Tube sourced MP4's but with no sound. However they do play MP4's from other sources quite OK. They also play AVI, MOV and other formats quite OK.

Any ideas I can try or explanations, please.

Thanks in advance. John.

Hi everyone...remember me? :P

Haven't been able to determine if this is possible without using a media server (like XBMC, etc).

Is there something out there that will allow me to stream from my computer to my Xbox360s that would also include the embedded cover art?

I have a ton of mp4 movies and tv shows, all of which have cover art that has been embedded using iTunes in Windows. Lately I've been wanting to go back to using Linux more or less full time (haven't picked a distro, yet) and I'm hoping that I can get this functionality.

I could use Plex, and I would have to with my Roku; but I'm really hoping that there is something else out there for the Xboxes because Plex, as wonderful as it may be, has issues. An example of this would be the fact that it shows Mission Impossible and Mission Impossible 3 as the same title, with the same cover art (hence my desire to have it read the cover art that is already embedded in the file).

I've been reading around and seeing some programs that do parts of what I want to do, but not all.

I could always use a media center, I know, but it would be harder to get that working with the Xbox (especially because I think that the only Media Center option for the 360 is WMC).

When I took the card out and tried to install the nvidia software in runlevel 3, it said no card detected and would not continue. It said something about kernel sources. I have kernel-sources, gcc and make installed in Mandriva 2007.

Later, I plugged the monitor into the card and when it reached the grub loader, I entered run level one. Then I typed 'login' and logged in. I left root mode but I couldn't reach the gui by typing 'startx'.

2. Grip doesn' even start. When run from commandline it says segmentation fault (man, how I hate this error!!!)

3. sound-juicer start and scans the disc but quits unexcpectedly with another segmentation fault once I tell it to start the extraction.

Can somebody else rip CD in Mandriva 2010 or is it just my problem? Also, the machine had 2GB RAM, but I recently upgraded to 4GB. Oh, the operating system is 32-bit.

I am trying to display my laptop's LCD onto an LCD TV, but no matter what I do the TV cuts off some of the screen. I actually have two laptops, an HP NC6400 and an HP NW8240. The first has an embedded Intel video chip (945?), and the second has an ATI Radeon FireGL X1300. The TV is a Sharp LC-26AD22U. The TV's manual says that it is compatible with a PC using 1360x768 resolution.

I am able to see the laptop's screen on the TV, but the TV always cuts some of it off. Another odd thing: I normally use higher resolutions on the laptop screens, but when I tried to reset them to 1360x768 (which was offered as a setting in MCC) the screens did not actually seem to change resolution on the laptops' screens. Going into MCC afterwards shows the 1360x768 res, but still the screens look like the normal higher resolutions. I have attempted to reset he screen ratios on the TV, but no luck.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

This question is similar to Kieth's question, but I'm specifically interested in RTMP streams played by a flash player called "JW Player". I'm trying to use rtmpdump but I keep getting errors.

In the html page, several parameters are passed to the flash player, including the following:

   'streamer' : 'rtmp://ip.address/vod',
  'file' : 'reallylongalphanumericstring',
  'javascriptid' : 'video',
  'type' : 'encrypt',
  'enablejs' : 'true'

I've also got the url to the swf file used to play the video. My question is, what do I have to give to rtmpdump to download the stream for later?

I've tried this:

rtmpdump -r rtmp://ip.address/vod -y reallylongalphanumericstring -W http://url.to/player.swf -o output.flv

but I just get the error:

Connecting ...
INFO: Connected...
ERROR: rtmp server sent error
ERROR: rtmp server requested close

I also tried the options -l 2 (to specify encryption), -a video (to specify the application name), but nothing works. I also tried the verbose option but just see things like:

which doesn't bring me much closer. It seems to be at least trying to use encryption and handshaking, but just gets a rejection message.

I just discovered Handbrake 0.93, a nice DVD transcoder software with GTK GUI: http://www.handbrake.fr

As I couldn't find it in the 2008.1 repositories I compiled it myself from source, it compiled without issues.

How come it's not available from Mandriva or at least in the plf archives?

It seems like a very useful and stable/mature software.

I might be able to make a Mandriva 2008.1 rpm out of it (I'm not sure it would be conformant to all Mandriva guidelines, which I don't have knowledge of), but I guess that would be pointless as Mandriva wouldn't take a rpm for it's repositories from some 'random user' anyway?

Edited to add link to my rpm package for Mandriva.

Hello,

I have my own server now (reuse of former “salonâ€). And I thought it would be nice to have this server hooked up to the HiFi, and thus enable any PC on the LAN to send sound to the HiFi!

Setup was not straightforward, none the least because Mandriva's paprefs seems to be partly broken, and there's ZERO documentation on Pulseaudio networking on Mandriva. Still, I managed; all in all, it's just a matter of:

— adding

load-module module-native-protocol-tcp
load-module module-zeroconf-publish

to /etc/pulse/default.pa on the (Debian) server,

— adding

load-module module-zeroconf-discover

to /etc/pulse/default.pa on the (Mandriva) client,

— managing authentication, either through ACL or with cookies.

Alternately, the whole zeroconf parts can be replaced by a single line on the client side (I got this line thanks to paman; it was probably generated by zeroconf-discover in the first place):

load-module module-tunnel-sink server=[my_server_IP]:4713 sink=alsa_output.hw_0 format=s16le channels=2 rate=44100 sink_name=tunnel.sphinx.local.alsa_output.hw_0 channel_map=front-left,front-right

Anyway, I still have two problems, which are probably related:

1/ Very chopped sound, and freezed video, when using the tunnelled sink

When I play a wav file with VLC, I only get an occasional bit of sound once in a while, even though VLC's slider seems to run fine.

Curiously, when I play the same wav file with mplayer, the sound gets perfectly to the speakers. However, mplayer itself seems to be lost. It displays a line about like this:

A: 0.1 (00.1) of 1.0 (00:01.0) 0.1%

with no apparent trend up in the numbers and a regular flash of “unknown†(if I saw correctly) between the first pair of brackets.

As for video, still with mplayer, it takes ages to actually start, and then, I have sound but no video, and mplayer is extremely slow to respond to key strokes.

I must add that networking itself is not at fault. If, instead of relying on the tunnelled sink, I change of server with

PULSE_SERVER=my_server mplayer ~/my_wav_file.wav

then it is as good as with a local sink (which is not perfect, see below)…

So it is obviously a tunnel-specific problem. Unfortunately, changing of PA server is not an option for me, because Mandriva's pavucontrol (pulseaudio 0.9.21) seems unable to connect to Debian's daemon (pulseaudio 0.9.10): I get an error about pa_context_get_card_info_list being “Not supportedâ€.

2/ Spurious pauses in video playback when using local sinks

Now with local playback. As soon as a remote sink is available, be it through zeroconf, or directly with the tunnel-sink module, then local video playback on local sinks with any player (VLC, mplayer, xine) plays fine, EXCEPT (that's a big except…) every 5 minutes or so, there's a more-or-less-15-second pause in playback!

So for now, I'm back to square one, with both “module-zeroconf-discover†and “module-tunnel-sink†disabled on the client side (no Pulseaudio network)…

Is there a Pulseaudio veteran here that would have advice, tips, or anything to help me?

Thanks,

Yves.

I'm trying to use nero .nrg audio cd images.

Friends of mine have scanned their collection to .nrg files, but those are sadly not usable (also not on Win or OSX) other than to burn to cd, and they are non-compressed (or at least, they seem to be from the file sizes).

So I've explained it's better to rip to flac, but it would be nice if they could convert their current rips to flac as well.

I tried and managed using Nero for Linux, but I need to burn each .nrg to a cd (rw of course), then rip that one, then burn the next. So the speed and the quality both have me worried a bit. Plus, it wears out my burner.

Is there any way to create a virtual cd burner under Linux?

That way I can use nero to 'burn' the .nrg files to the virtual drive, then rip it as usual.

Please note the following:

I have not found any program that can use audio .nrg files under Linux. I have looked at nrg2iso, but that works for data discs only. There are some other similar things that I found which also didn't work, I forgot the names but can find those again, if necessary.

I also looked at audiofs and cdfs, which seem to be unmaintained since a while, in any case, I couldn't find any way to employ those.

When I set up this system post-install, I enabled auto-login via the kde system settings (kdesu systemsettings) and sound worked fine.(except it kept resetting the kmix volumes to a higher level than I left them, but that's fixed.)

After an update (of mostly kde stuff) the sound stopped working. I can only get it work if I disable auto-login.

I did search the forums and the web and didn't find anything using the same search terms as the title of this thread.

I haved tried different display managers but the results are the same.

The system is Mandriva 2010 Free.

Hope someone can help.

Thanks

I have recently installed Mandriva Free 2010 x86_64 in a PC with a AMD Phenom II X4.

I have no problems to install XvidCap, but the videos it produces are quite odd, and they do not match what happens on the screen.

You can get the idea with the following picture:

However, nothing better that a video recorded using XvidCap to asses the problem:

http://www.filefactory.com/file/b569h5d/n/test-Xvidcap.mpeg

The program does not give many clues to what goes wrong. Thus, running it from the console in verbose mode writes the following messages:

[ramom@favo ~]$ xvidcap -v --audio no --gui yes

Hello everyone,

I just updated to 2010.0.

As usual I want to allow everyone to access the soundcard at once ...

I have done this in the past just by using the dmix feature of alsa and it worked somehow.

But what is actually the preferred method to do this ?

Using Mandriva 2010.0 with

I have experimented with pulseaudio, but it doesn't work. If the first user runs a flash video in firefox, the second

Any pointers / suggestions ?

I want to enable the onboard hardware synth in my soundcard. Dell Inspirion 7500 laptop with EES Tech. Maestro soundcard. Really the 450MHz CPU needs a break.

I have all the Columbo TV series in .avi that I would like to make into DVDs for my wife for Christmas. The files are small enough that I can put each year on a separate DVD. But instead of making her go into dolphin and choosing the film to run, how can I put them onto a DVD and have it start automatically, giving her a choose of which film to see (like in a professionally bought DVD)? BTW, to state the obvious, this is my first attempt to do this sort of thing. :) :)

The 'Master' & 'Pcm' controls reset to varying degrees of loudness depending on what is played. No matter where I set them they always return to some preset settings usually after the sound stops, regardless of the sound being played. I really am at a loss on this one, so if anyone has an idea I will be grateful for it.
