Long time looking for alternatives to Metin2. There is PandoraMT2 private server. Just act like the usual Metin2 only everything is easier, new weapons, clothes etc.. The server is now only 1 server 4 CH, but you can play. The required speed is a little faster, though I do not know? I will try to insert a screen, Pandora is also a forum, a very cool forum and so far people are more friendly. Runs on Linux without a problem because it is only one directory. I recommend the Prock 2GHz resolution 800x600 good point. In one day you do 50 levels, no problem ...... Lex

I would like to know how to cheat at Freeciv.

Specifically, I would like to know you can modify the .sav files so that I can give myself extra technology bonuses. I have searched the internet high and low and there seems to be nothing around to help me. I would have thought that this could be achieved in the Freeciv server command line but nothing I have read about helps.

Today I managed to unzip the .sav file. I found the information on my civilization, bumped up the technology thingy to "50" and then tried to rezip it up. Once it had been saved I then loaded it into the server and...

The server crashed and turned off.

I'd better explain the reasons for my shame... When I used to play Civ2 in my Win98 days I often would set the conditions to extreme (maximum amount of AI, maximum difficulty, massive barbarians, no huts) but then grant myself modern technology so that my Mech Inf units could ward off the barbarian hoardes and Shaka Zulu as I expanded outwards. Of course I was never good enough to win the game on my own merits... so I would cheat and have a great time. I would like to do the same with Freeciv.

Just want to mention a great game I played lately: http://machinarium.net/demo/

If you like puzzle adventure games (point'n'click), this game is worth the money.

It cost $20 and you'll get full game + full mp3 DRM free music (19 tracks) of the game.

It's been a long time and you helped me in the past, I'm back for more help.

Eschalon a rpg game, ran very well on mandriva 2008.0 and .1

However on 2009 it runs incredibly slowly, the music and actual graphics are fine, but the mouse movement is very jerky and the play is almost standstill.

I am using a hp laptop (old) with a nvideo 3200 vidoe card. and a xorg driver.

any help would be appreciated.

thanks

Nic

PS. video in general was better in 2008.1 than it has in 2009, I'm hoping 2009.1 will improve matters as 2008.1 over 2008 did.

In 2009.1, Cedega still works fine for some games, but for some it complains that it wants Python version 2.3 - 2.5, then exits. Mandriva 2009.1 comes with 2.6.1 by default.

Does anybody know if there's an easy workaround for this? I'd rather use the rpms than do a manual build of an earlier version, not to mention there is a slew of packages that seem to depend on python.

If you miss original material or visuals in recent games then take a look at these games and you can see creativity is not dead. Some truely unique, some of them brings new ideas to old genres.

Some of them has Linux and\or MacOS version, though most of them is Win only of course. There's also a few flash based game which runs directly in the browser.

(To admins: This may belong under another sub-forum - perhaps in HW section or installation. Please move it, if this is a wrong forum.)

I don't know what happened with my display settings, but I cannot play Doom3 with my current login (at KDE4) anymore. Originally I was able to play Doom3 (or the RoE exp. pack) in my MDV 2009.0, but when I changed my 3D desktop to No-3D I noticed that I cannot play Doom3! Something must have gone wrong with the display settings because, when I start doom3 from konsole I get "no signal" on my screen, but still hear the sounds of the game perfectly. So the game is running well, but I just can't get any signal to my screen.

I changed it back to 3D, but nothing. I also have installed the Nvidia drivers again and tried the latest Nvidia driver (177.80) from Non-free backports. Nothing.

My display adapter is GeForce 7600 GT and I'm running the Nvidia driver 177.70.

I cannot see any error messages from the konsole as the only way to get the screen back is to restart X (Crtl - Alt - Backspace). Then I loose the konsole screen.

One other thing is that I can play the game with another login (I have two IDs at KDE4)! So how can I see what the difference is?

It occured to me that perhaps I messed the screen settings within the game itself (I did change some settings); but how can I change the settings of Doom3 without entering the game? (Catch 22)

There is something odd also with some other games as well. E.g. Tuxracer has the same effect, i.e. I don't get any signal to my screen.

The screen is connected to a DVI connector with a VGA/DVI adapter piece - if that makes any difference.

I tried to install sauerbraten a couple days ago. I d/l the tar.gz file to a GAMES folder on my desktop. Then I did the tar -xzvf thing., which resulted in a folder called sauerbraten.

I tried running the sauerbraten_unix shell script, but it doesn't do anything. There's also a folder in the sauerbraten folder called bin_unix, so I tried running the linux_client that was in there, but also nothing.

I never did these tar.gz installs very often. So, how do you run the sauerbraten game after expanding the tar.gz? Do you have to chmod +x anything? (I tried that already).

Since its predecessors had native Linux ports (and, imho, two of the most solid Linux clients to date, for games) it was unlikely that UT3 wouldn't be available natively, but now we know for sure

Well, I did it again. Broke something that didn't need fixing.

I had flash working reasonably well, but in trying to make some improvement on my own rather than wait for the next release, I somehow uninstalled my existing flash, as I was trying to download and install the latest beta.

End result is opera is not seeing the new flash, (it's not showing in the plugin list).

How do I tell opera where it is?

Thanks

PS also asked at opera

I was just browsing though MMOsite.com and I just saw that perfect world is having a closed beta for the US version. This is pretty cool because I played the Malaysia version and it was cool but it had such broken English and the lag was horrible. This version is gonna be completely translated to English and the servers will be hosted here. Check it out if your interested. Registration hasn't started yet though. :( All the info I could find is listed below.

Even though I'm against the monthly-subscription fee, I wanted to try out another MMORPG after guild wars. So recently I've been able to get Dark Age of Camelot+expansions pretty cheap. It included 2 months of free play, I want to see how fun it is in that period.

It would be so much nicer to have people to play with though. Anyone care to join me?

Battle Tanks is an arcade-style game, where you drive a tank, pick up weapons, and blast enemies. While this doesn't sound like a particularly original concept, it's the implementation that makes the game so much fun to play. First of all, there is virtually no learning curve: use the arrow keys to move your tank, shoot by pressing Ctrl, and use so-called alternative weapons with the Alt key. That's all you need to know to get started -- which is good news since Battle Tanks lacks a manual. The game also features cartoonish graphics with professionally drawn maps and funny-looking tanks, buses, cars, and even goats.

Quoted from this article: linux.com

The game is already packaged for Ubuntu and openSUSE, but it's very easy to build for Mandriva. This game must be built with scons build system, so you must install scons first. It doesn't take long to build... it takes longer to figure out how to play, and win. :)

How I got Eschalon book 1 to run in the first place I don't know. Ssomehow i extracted it and it ended up here (/home/nic/.opera/cache4/temporary_download/eschalon_book_1_demo/), And it ran quite well.... but without any sound.

So looking on the internet i found something saying to use the sound default, by doing this.

./soundwrapper eschalon........ and not knowing what that really meant i went to the icon for eschalon right clicked, went to properties and entered in the field there ./soundwrapper esch.....

clicked ok, and it was gone.

not one to be detered by doing something stupid I thought perhaps if i repeated the steps on another file in the same directory I would see what happened, So i chose the purchase the full game file, right clicked on the icon, went to properties, entered ./soundwrapper purchaseit..etc. and clicked ok, and now that file was gone.

I'm sure i could do it again with all the other files in the dirctory, but i thought that i had accomplished quite enough for the evening.

My only excuse is that while i understand the file structure/system from old dos and windows I have no idea what is going on in Mandriva/linux, neither do i understand its extensions.

so,

Where do you think my files went to, and how do I get them back.

And once that is done how do I get sound to work in eschalon..

Thanks from, who only the polite call, a newbie.

It's out, and I love it. I suspect I'll waste as many hours of my life on this as I did on the original ET.

The Linux client is not out yet but will be available as a download soon. For now it works just fine under wine. Instructions to make it work.

Note: Make sure you're running the correct version of wine! I installed the correct version and followed all the instructions correctly, but when I went to start the game I type typed wine blahblahblah..., and it used the version it found in /usr/bin/somethingsomething, which didn't work. Once I explicitly specified the path to my wine it worked just fine.

While I enjoy games available on URPMI, such as Beneath a steel sky (Joey is hilarious!) and neverball, I can't find classics such as dungeon or galaga. I know there's an xgalaga out there, but I can't get any rpms of it to work right on my mandrake installation.

Anyone know of any good roguelike games, as well, that aren't text-based? It's just too much a pain in the butt for me to learn all the commands and stuff. I know FalconsEye Nethack works (tip: if you can't get it working set it to run in terminal, the rpm doesn't set that automatically, oops!) but is there anything else?

So I installed a few game packages, most notably a few emulators and the kdegames package, but the ONLY thing that pops up under the Kmenu -> Games is Zsnes!! NONE of the KDE games show up and the other emulators (Gens, Visualboy, etc) aren't there...they're (for some reason) under Kmenu -> Tools -> Emulators (along with another link to Zsnes). I've gone to the Mandriva Control Center to verify that the packages are installed, and they are. Is there some reason why they wouldn't show up under Kmenu -> Games and how can i fix this?

I have just installed 2008.0 and I thought that I would install some of my favorite games. When I tried to install both ut2004 and Doom3 (using installers) I got the following response in a blue DOS screen - "You are running a x86 machine with glibc-2.1 Operating system: Mandrake Linux 2008.0". There is also a dos response (yes) etc. Then the installation just won''t go much further.

When I previously installed these games in 2006 everything went smoothly.
