Anyone using any of these? I just completed a trial of Crossover linux, for no other reason than I was getting Christmas decorations out and found some of FPS games. 2 of which I also have linux installers, but wanted to see how they did.

Doom 3, postal 2 and Red faction all installed and played as well as I remembered. Could not get Madden 07 (American football) to install. Also was pleasant surprised that steel panthers:world at war played full screen with crossover. I was never able to do that with play on linux. I also found simcity so I may dust it off too.

Anybody playing more modern games with it? I play Xcom2 and Civ4 with steam (native) but are there games not with steam / non native you play?

Hi all. I have posted on Mageia forums, but so far no luck :(

So I'll run it past the faithful group here :)/>/>

Clean install of Mageia 4 with /home on a separate partition.

So I install, via MCC, the owncloud server: Took a bit of messing around to get a static ip on my home network.

Then I point browser at http://MYipaddy/owncloud which brought up the admin page: I tried to set the data directory as /home/owncloud/data. That failed due to permissions, I found on the web this command

chown -R apache:apache /home/owncloud/data

Which then let me get past the admin page. Now im stuck on post setup check with:

Your web server is not yet properly setup to allow files synchronization because the WebDAV interface seems to be broken.
Please double check the installion guides

So, I've checked the log, and this seems to be the issue:

{"app":"core","message":"isWebDAVWorking: NO - Reason: [CURL] Error while making request:
Connection timed out after 10004 milliseconds (error code: 28) (sabre_DAV_Exception)", "level":2,"time....etc

So, was my change of permissions the right thing to do? How do I proceed regarding this WebDAV issue?

One of the first things I wanted to do is to downgrade Firefox to version 28 as hate new GUI in version 29.

I uninstalled new version through Software Manager, no problem but when it comes to installing older version problems are coming one by one and can't over come them.

I downloaded Firefox28.tar.bz2 file, unpacked to /opt but when clicking on firefox.exe file system asks for "which application you want to open it with" and doesn't execute. Also nothing when trying to execute from command line.

I downloaded Firefox28.rpm file, thought it might be easier, double click, it says "installing" and then just stop, installer shut down, no entry in programs list. I tried other versions and have same problem over and over again.

Any suggestion or help?

HI. I recently updated to Mageia 2 kernel-server-3.4.52. This kernel has been working ok for several days.

In order to save space I decided to remove most of the older kernels, including the oldest one, the one that comes with Mageia 2. I left two kernels: 3.4.52 and another one (.3.3.8).

I restarted and can't boot anymore: the Grub screen shows a black screen with the command used to get to the kernel and the corresponding options. Nothing else. The computer freezes there, doesn't even show a kernel panic message and I have to hit the reset button.

I tried using the rescue disk, but it gives me an:

Error 12: Error 12: Invalid device requested

However I did not change partitions in any way. Also, The physical HDD is ok, because I was able to boot Windows 7 from it (it's a dual boot).

Currently I'm trying to boot that kernel from a second HD that has Mandriva 2010 in it. But I don't know what the instruction should be. I have this in MCC/Boot:

image

/boot/vmlinuz-3.4.52-server-1.mga2

root

/dev/sdb5

But it's giving me a "kernel too old" error.

Finally, the problem seems to have stemed from removing the default kernel, why could this have happened? Should I reinstall everything or can I just reinstall the old kernel?

The default icons is the one for unkown files, I found a nice icon and am trying to use it for that file type, but no matter what I do, it never changes. The window that comes up when you right click and select properties in Dolphin does show the new icon, but Dolphin itself keeps showing the usual one (the icon for unknown files). Any idea of why this is happening?

Hi people. I have a question: I am using Mageia 2.0 and am very happy with it. However, I see a new kernel update:

kernel-server-3.4.32-2.mga2 - Linux Kernel for server use with i686 & 64GB RAM

kernel-server-latest - Virtual rpm for latest kernel-server

kernel-userspace-headers - Linux kernel header files for userspace

kmod - Kernel modules management tools

But I am extremely afraid of installing it because I don't want to screw up the system. Especially since I saw a warning somewhere on this forum stating that there were problems with updates. Also, I'd like to know if updating the kernel will still allow me to use the previous kernel.

Finally, I would also like to know why I ended up with a server kernel after installation.

Thank you

I have a problem with mandriva 2010 and the latest Firefox. I am having the infamous can't start xpcom error described here:

I have googled for many solutions, but none has worked. The only thing I could do was downgrade to firefox 17 and it works perfectly. Has anyone encountered this problem? Does this mean that my version of xulrunner must be updated? Won't it break the system? Where do I update it? Should I give up on updating firefox? I thought it was self-contained and depended on no external libraries (I use the firefox you download from Mozilla, not Mandriva's. It is still installed but I don't use it).

I have just about reached the end of my tether with the people who have made such a mess of kmail by tying it up with Kwallet and Akonadi and whatever else. It used to be a relatively simple and reliable application but now no longer.

Before Kwallet and Akonadi one was offered the ablility to have kmail store the password within kmail, a choice which suited me so I used it. I do not want anything to do with Kwallet or Akonadi because they not do anything for me that I need. All the arguments about making things more secure etc., do not wash with me. So I don't install Kwallet and I have to have Akonadi whether I want it or not, now what I find is that I am prevented from having the password saved in Kmail. Everytime, not just when I open Kmail, yes everytime I check email now I have to type in the password. Yet for sending emails, Kmail stores the password to enter the internet.

With the Kwallet nonsence one needs a brutish password to get into it and you still need your separate Kmail password.

I live alone and NO ONE gets to operate my computer and on top of that I DO NOT ever keep any personal data on the computer. So if anyone who illegally happened to be in a situation to access my computer they would find nothing of interest at all.

What really tipped me over the edge was another change that caused a disaster to me. Emails used to be kept in .kde4 (/home) so I always copied that hidden folder to another hard drive plus a USB stick whenever I reinstalled Mageia2 and/or also cleared the home partition for any reason. In this particular situation though I planned to clear the john account and then reopen it afresh (not reformatted) because I was having funny little things happening but not serious just annoying. I setup the account afresh and that appeared to eliminate them so now was the time to copy back the Kmail folder in the saved .kde4. Opened kmail itself and found no emails showing there so I go back to the .kde mail and find to my horror that there were no emails in it at all. I had lost all emails from right back to 2007. Nothing,na-da,zilch,zero all gone.

I have only now found out that the emails are now saved in .local instead. Some bright spark decided to change things without telling anyone. Sure lots of Techs probably knew but not us dumb nontech users.

I immediately got into semi-panic mode but remembered that photorec worked for me once before with a difficult photo memory card. I installed it and logged into root (Yes I am setup so I can. Anyone who wants to criticize this please don't waste your time, remember it is my computer) and set it to work. I am only 1/3 way through sorting through the stuff recovered by photorec and have found quite a lot of email files with missing parts and quite a number of complete files so I have made encouraging progress thus far.

Anyone got a suggestion as to how I can save the password into kmail without this wallet thing. Sorry for the rant.

Cheers. John.

Enabled non-free repos as recommended. Apparently MGA has scripts flash-player-plugin and flash-player-plugin-kde that download and installs Adobe Flash ( v. 11.2.xx.x) but FF recognizing it as Shockwave. When I install these plugins, Adobe flash control center is indeed added to KDE control center and there is a libflashplayer.so found in /usr/lb/mozilla/plugins, However no flash content can be seen and Adobe "test flash version" site shows nothing installed.

In checking on command line clients I found and installed Mutt /w Gmail, and can receive mail but not send ... error after trying to send: No Authenticators Available.

After checking software additions, which are limited in this distro, unless downloaded and compiled, I found the man page for nail / Mailx and etc/nail.rc but nothing in etc for mailx ...after reading nail.rc it states:

# This is the configuration file for Heirloom mailx (formerly

# known under the name "nail".

# See mailx(1) for further options.

# This file is not overwritten when 'make install' is run in

# the mailx build process again.

I assume mailx(1) is the MAN page.

What I seek to do is get a simple, fast, and efficient command based mail send and receive client up and working (mutt is okay ...)

Mutt worked fine on an older Ubuntu install but has the above mentioned issue in Mandriva.

After reading it seems that nail or mailx is faster and less cumbersome ... any help, suggestions or anyone willing to help me put this together or fix the mutt issue is appreciated.

Thanks

KDE 4.4.5

KAddressBook 4.4.9

Normally, in a received email when I right click on the sender's address and select "Add to Address Book", a popup box asks me to select an address book from a list.

If I leave Kmail open for a few days (currently open for 2.5 days), the list is empty, and I can't add emails to my address book in this way.

I can manually add contacts via "Tools -> Address Book-> Add Contact".

Restarting Kmail fixes the issue, but after a couple more days, again I can no longer add to the address book via right click.

Hi All,

I am new to mandriva. I have only just installed mandriva & have been exploring it & a notice appeared saying new updates were available. I went ahead & installed the updates. I noticed that when the updates were installing that I couldn't access any programs or applications except for the ones that were opened. I thought this was a bit archaic as most linux distros & windows OS update in the background. After the updates were installed, which took quite a while, I turned the computer off as it was late at night. I started the computer the next morning & the mandriva splash screen appeared then the grub srceen came up & stayed there with a blinking cursor. I have tried to start the computer numerous times but get the same result. I do not have the have a great knowledge of the linux system so I will need a basic step by step help. I would like to be able to fix the problem instead of a reinstall, to help me learn.

Thanks.

I have been forced to exchange my index.shtml for index.php to get around a failed hit counter written in perl. The new index.php page and its new hit counter are working fine with php, but the only way I can view it is by uploading it to the host.

Is there a simple php interpreter that I can run locally, short of installing Apache, to view my file before uploading it? I am not trying to debug the PHP locally. The php in it is so simple that it is a tiny part of the page. I just want to be able to see the content of the page before uploading it. Firefox just bails out on the whole file because there is no php on this computer.

I can edit the file as a .html file, live through the php errors, and then rename to .php for upload, but that is a pain in the neck and error prone. Having a simple, standalone php interpreter would be better. I need to convince Firefox to display the file even though it is a .php file, even if it just throws out the php code.

I tried to experience the KDE version of semantik desktop by tagging and commenting my images just to find out is pretty hard to get something going with gwenview and/or Dolphin. The apps take forever when you try to deal with the metainformation like comments, ratings, or tags.

Nepomuk seems to be running and even display the stats of what its doing. However nothing on the other side.

Hello,

when I right click on dolphin the context menu that appears contains no "create file" and its submenu although I can create files from konqueror, opera and on desktop and I can save files anywhere I want on my HDD.

I googled a little bit and I found there was a bug report in Mandriva 2011 rc1 and I am using the final version.

how can I solve this problem?

I posted first in Linuxquestions.org : http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/showthread.php?p=4475507

Hello everybody.

For academic reasons I have to get a statistics program callded SPSS. It's propietary software and I don't want to get a trial version. So I found PSPP a GNU alternative that doies exactly what I need. I got the mandriva RPM from the Internet and everything went well, the problem is that I get an error when trying to run its GUI:

** (psppire:12499): CRITICAL **: Gtk+ version too old (micro mismatch)

psppire: symbol lookup error: psppire: undefined symbol: g_malloc0_n

How come my GTK+ version is too old? It's Mandriva 2010.0! Any Ideas? Has anyone managed to install a fully working PSPP (via RPM or compiling, don't care)?I also accept other alternative programs you can recommend me.

Thank you

Hello,

I want to be able to switch between keyboard layouts using alt+shift to toggle between the two layouts I have.

How can I configure KDE to do so?

[sOLUTION] there is a widget called "keyboard layout" add it then configure it by adding the language of your desire

I do not know how to access the dialogue by any other mean

Hi all, got a bit of a funny problem. It's been ages since my last install (still running 2010.0, it's been brilliant) and I can't remember how I set my boot menus :(

When I boot, I got through two GRUB menu's. And, I think my first grub menu isn't on the MBR IIRC.

Anyway, I know where the last GRUB menu files are, is there anyway I can determine where the first GRUB set up is?

For the new install I'm going to clean out my OS HDD, as I have my data on separate discs, and my OS disc is a mess, with like 6 distros on it, but I only ever use 2010.0

Any help most appreciated
