Installed easily, seems to work well. Had to tweak sound circuit to get it to
work. LM 8.0 doesn't really like port replicator much. Still tweaking.

Mostly great, except problems with Iomega Zip drives. They get detected   and work for a short while, but long files seem to confuse it and the disk keeps spinning and I need to unload/reload the drivers to get it working again. Never had Windows on this machine so I can't tell if it's the laptop, but both drives work fine on my old Win95 desktop. Hardly use Zip anyway, so it's not a major problem!

It works. Only complaints:
1.  Have not gotten DVD to work though have not tried that hard.
2.  After suspend mode it wakes up useless, ie KDE is split in 2 or there is a  DMA error and the system is needing a reboot

Basic configuration : PIII 750MHz(C-6571)/800MHz(C-6581),128MB Ram, 24X CD-Rom, Yamaha AC97 on Intel soundboard, Realtek 8139 Ethernet, Lucent LT Modem, 8MB ATI Mobility VGA, 1.44FD, 4USBs, 1 Parallel, 1 S-Video Out, 1 Display Out, No PS/2, No Serial.

I've tried out the 'lnx4win' method first. Done a 'Server' installation. Yamaha
AC97 sound was not detected, nor the Lucent LT Soft Modem. Alps GlidePoint touch pad works fine. Successfully runs X at 1024x768 @ 32bit under the 8MB ATI  Mobility card. Network card was detected as Realtek 8139too module. Have not checked the USB detection.

When installed as 'Workstation'(still under lnx4win method), boot up process
hangs at 'Loading sound module (snd-card-intel8x0) cardmgr[197] watching 2 sockets'.

Works things work quite well. Except on install mandrake doesn't have pcmcia!
What's up with that? Other versions of mandrake had X problems.

The only thing which bugs me is configuration for X window. Although during the installation, X was working fine, when I tried to start X, I got a blank screen. Reconfiguration using xf86config doesn't work at all.  Mandrake also did not recognized my laptop monitor. When I searched at the Gateway monitor, I
couldn't find one that match. I have to use the default High Super VGA option.

Sound (OPL3sAx) worked fine with an addition to conf.modules.  8.0 will not allow a conf.modules file [that's because in 8 it's called modules.conf, tom], and doesn't work if I insert one. Other things work fine, but I had to reinstall X twice after I got only a partial screen at the edge for no reason after perfect X functioning for a while.

Auto-sensing my 14.1 LCD screen in 8.0 was a pain, but the first two 8.1 betas found my drivers right away and installed nicely - 8.0 version and earlier versions kept me from realy delving into LINUX and enjoying what I have now - fully configured and loving it !!

Runs pretty sweet, only minor issues with not deep cycling the battery enough before APM shuts things down. Also having only 32MB of RAM currently it is a bit of a squeeze to use KDE and X, so for now I am using one of the leaner desktops like iceWM. 3
G770

Also known as "Maxtech", and here in Spain sold as "Ahtec". Bought in 1999.
Cel. 333, TFT 14,1. ATI VGA and ESS Maestro2 sound. The first release of Mandrake I installed on it didn't have support for the sound board, but I downloaded and compiled a module for it. Later releases work without problem.

Some things could be better:
1: when I try to reboot, it freezes
2: when don't use my mouse the touchpad doesn't work correctly (unusable)
3: working in KDE/gnome without mouse doesn't work!
4: A lot of programs don't work good when I use 800x600 (the only resolution with AA fonts)
5: built in modem doesn't work

It works very nice with the %&@ soundcard and the video card, too. The first time I could hear something from my laptop was with MDK 7.1. The update from 7.1 to 8.0 was a little messy. Better boot with LILO and without herrr... say with simple normal boot ;-)

* X4.1.x needs some tweaking: If savage_drv.o hangs occasionally, edit XFConfig-4, replace module with newest version ( http://www.probo.com/timr/savage40.html )

This laptop works great, except for the screen.  It is a cyberBladeXP, which does have support in xfree86 4.1.x, but I can't get it to utilize the entire screen; I've got about an inch of "dead space" on every side.  Framebuffer
"vga=791" makes it boot nicely, but sends X into a fit.  Everything else works (except the winmodem, it also has a combo drive which I have not tried to burn anythign with) and sound actually plays rather nicely out of the front speakers.
