Now that I got my system back in order, I was thinking of tackling something like this myself. BUT, I think I will wait some more. Yesterday there were like 248 megs of updates, today there is over 300, and who knows what will be there tomorrow.

Over 300? What additional stuff are in there?
Anyway.. the updated ISOs looks interesting.. too bad I don't have broadband.. Anyone wants to try clean install from the updated CDs and give us a review for it?

Could it have something to do with the LG cd-rom problem?

I'll download them tonight and maybe try an install tomorrow.

Unless those iso contains kernel 2.4.22-21mdk (that is just out in cooker), I really doubt the iso solve the LG cdrom problem.. If those iso contains that particular cooker kernel.. then it should be mirrored in our ftp site.

This is from an official MDK server update site, its supposed to fix the LG problem;
ftp://mandrake.redbox.cz/Mandrake/updates...1-1mdk.i586.rpm

Yeah but you never know --- it would be nice if these were upgraded 9.2 ISO's --- we'll see in a few hours as soon as I burn the cds and try an install on my test system.

These ISO's arenot --- I repeat not--- bootable! But with a little work they might be.
Might be fun to play with though.

Oct 31 2003, 03:05 PM
They are not bootable? Dang.. and here's me hoping that they could be our "official" 9.2 iso for MUB ftp site. :(

Mine was bootable, but I am at work so I didn't load it. I will at home this weekend and report back.
One other item, on windows it reads as mandrake 9.1, but loading the install the header is 9.2. So who knows?

The 9.1 on the first screen appears also when installing from the official release. - One of the small 'features' in 9.2.

Forget about my last post here. K3B was ripping bad iso's --- after fixing k3b and burning new disks it booted just fine! A very fast and smooth install!!!!
I checked for updates in MCC and it only called for 1 meg!!!!
I don't have LG cd-roms so i'm not sure if these iso's have the fix in them -- please keep this in mind if your going to use these iso's. Maybe someone else here can check on that.
I've only been up and running for about 30 minutes so I'll report back after I've done some playing around!

Ok, I upgraded my 9.1 with these 4 discs, only to discover when loading disc 2 that this is the cooker release. All seems good, but I'm far from being efficient with linux, it is a little different from rc2 that I tried. but now at boot I have the following options:
linux
linux-nonfb
windows
floppy
2421-13
old_linux
old_linux-nonfb
failsafe

how do I rid myself of some of these? I'm thinking about dumping the 9.2 cooker, so alittle

(ok, a lot) of

is needed.

If you just need to delete the options, just edit your /etc/lilo.conf as root and delete / comment the appropriate sections. If you want to remove the old kernel entirely, first check what version of the kernel that are available by typing
rpm -qa |grep kernel
Then use urpme to remove the kernel you want to remove.

It's been 2 days now and it seems very stable --- nothing to complain about.
If this keeps up I think I'll install it onto my main system!

So if I was the test subject for these ISO's and MUB uses them for official 9.2 ISO's does that mean my status gets bumped up to Super cool guy or something? lol

The ISO's are no longer at
ftp://mandrake.redbox.cz/Mandrake-iso/i586/message says they have been moved to
http://linux.redbox.cz/people/bluehawk/iso/but they are not there(as of 03/11/05 01.50 GMT)!
Anybody knows of any alternative ftp?
Tried also
ftp://linux.redbox.cz/people/bluehawk/iso/ but site requires
username & password ????

Well I did see the md5sum for it.. so I guess it is still moving, or copying or something.
If not, maybe they are remastering the cd to use the latest latest kernel (-22mdk) instead of the -18mdk they are using before.

isnt that an indication that the server has the maximum number of connections? i encounter that one on the mirrors whenever a distro releases a new iso or something..
ciao!
