I'm at Uni and I get the internet through their broadband network thing... Had enough problems getting that to work since they run on XP ( people!)
Now everything in that area works except that I've been having problems with my printer!! I'll print a few things, turn it off and when i turn it on again it prints out on all the paper that's on the rack: "This program cannot run in DOS mode" !!!
Now I went through the whole CUPS configuration and it's not available to other computers nor can I find remote printers from other machines! But when I go to the CUPS admin tool, suddenly there are milloins of "jobs" pending from people who aren't me! I don't understand!! I guess my whole problem is linked to the network at my Uni but how can I fix it?? I keep having to remove and then add my printer when I want to print something!

Sometinmes you see something that you sdon't know the answer to BUT you expect someone else will and you move it up the queue ,....

anyone?? luckily i talked to a computer friend of mine (IT and all) and he told me it was because of my Samba thing (please may all linux users fogive me for uding the word "thing" after Samba but being a noobie i don't really know the entire terminology - i promise to learn them eventually!) so all i had to do was delete it
either way, just thought i' post up the solution to my question in case anyone else has the same problem!!

Well, I'm glad you figured it out, I certainly couldn't have helped much. Samba and I don't get along.

Me I have worked a little with Samba but I didn't understand the problem nor the solution...

It isn\t a SAMBA problem, that is SAMBA will only share what its asked to share. Something is adding the printer.

lilgbp: Can you post the contents of /etc/samba/smb.conf ..
Just open in an editor (like kwrite) and paste into a post.

Disabling SAMBA is one way.... but surely there\s a way to add a printer in DRAKPRINTER and NOT share it? The little tickbox doesn\t seem to help, shared/unshared seems the same.

Perhaps adding it directly in CUPS ???

Well, I checked my default Mandrake configuration.
Its set up VERY insecurely especially for printers.

If you add a cups printer it is automatically shared to the world without authentification.

Printers are all browsable and mappable to guest.

As a precaution I'd suggest (I used double # to indicate what I commented)
